Kanye West finally makes ‘Donda 2' available on streaming platforms, 3 years after initial release

Indian Express30-04-2025

Rapper and producer Ye (formerly Kanye) has finally made his album 'Donda 2' available on streaming platforms three years after its initial release. His tenth studio album was made available only on the Stem Player, which was a device he developed in collaboration with a British company called Kano Computing. The artiste received a lot of flack for this decision, and many loyal fans refused to buy the product just to listen to one project. The album has been released under the artiste name Donda.
The album has found its way onto Spotify and YouTube Music but is yet to be released on Apple Music and consists of 18 tracks. Artistes like XXXTENTACION, Don Toliver, Migos, Jack Harlow, Travis Scott, Playboi Carti, Baby Keem and Future are featured in the album. Fans will be curious about most of these collaborations, as since the initial release, Ye has burnt many bridges, and his standing in the industry has changed quite a bit.

Kanye's sequel to his popular album from 2021 was recorded in Los Angeles and Miami under his own label, YZY, with Future acting as the executive producer. West has decided to keep Kim Kardashian 's SNL monologue in the track 'Sci-Fi', even after their recent rifts and legal battles. The monologue had Kim talk about Kanye's successful career as a musician and a husband, and she called him 'a talented, legit genius who gave me four incredible kids'.
Kanye's last studio album that was launched on streaming platforms was Vultures 2, which he released with rapper TY Dolla $ign. According to both fans and critics, the album was far from the usual quality that is expected from Ye, with the entire album trying to balance an experimental sound with Kanye's classic style. The album List, however, was Bully, which he released on YouTube as a short film. The film had Kanye's son Saint fighting masked wrestlers while the entire album plays in the background.

One has to wonder whether this is an attempt to get back in the good graces of fans, peers and critics after Kanye went on an unhinged streak on X (formerly Twitter) earlier this year.

Kesari Chapter 2 OTT Release Date: Akshay Kumar recently played the character of C. Sankaran Nair in this historical drama alongside R. Madhavan and Ananya Panday. The film opened to positive reviews in theatres on 18th April this year and is now ready to make its digital debut. Kesari Chapter 2 will be streaming on JioHotstar starting June 13, 2025. Kesari Chapter 2's plot overview The plot follows lawyer C. Sankaran Nair as he takes on the British Empire in court after the 1919 Jallianwala Bagh massacre. Determined to expose the truth behind the brutal killings, Nair files a case in London, accusing the British of orchestrating a state-backed atrocity. With help from young lawyer Dilreet Gill, he gathers suppressed evidence while facing threats, political pushback, and a biased legal system. The film builds to a tense courtroom showdown against British official Neville McKinley. Though the verdict doesn't bring justice to the victims, Nair's bold stand forces the world to confront the Empire's brutality. His legal fight becomes a turning point in India's freedom movement, proving that even in the face of power, truth can make history. Kesari Chapter 2's review The Times of India rated the movie 3 out of 5, and a part of their review read, 'The recreation of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre tugs at your heartstrings, the injustice fuels your anger, and the legal battle keeps you hooked. The tragic Jallianwala Bagh massacre is a well-documented chapter in history. Yet, this deep dive into the lesser-known case that shook the Empire makes for an incredible tale. Its gripping narrative and stellar performances make it a must-watch fare.'

Following this, The Jackal went on to be made into a blockbuster film starring Edward Fox as the assassin. Not only this, but last year, a Netflix remake was also made with Eddie Redmayne playing the lead role. Moreover, according to Forsyth, he attributed most of his success to 'luck', recalling how a bullet just missed him during his coverage of the brutal Nigerian civil war between 1967 and 1970. Total sadness to hear my friend #FrederickForsyth, author, has passed. Wonderful memories of such a marvelous trip to India with his late wife Sandy. His academic knowledge of places, palaces & geography was bar none. He'll be much missed for so many reasons. Harry Potter fans furious after HBO casts Italian actor as Parvati Patil in upcoming TV series: ‘So much for diversity'

The casting announcement for the upcoming Harry Potter TV series has sparked significant discussions—especially among the Indian fanbase—following Monday night's reveal that Italian actor Alessia Leoni will portray Parvati Patil, one of the beloved side characters from J.K. Rowling's wizarding world. Social media backlash quickly followed, with fans on Reddit and X (formerly Twitter) voicing frustration at the choice. A Reddit user captured the sentiment: 'I'm so sick of Hollywood casting biracial, half white desi actors.' Another remarked: 'I'll gladly delete this and eat my words if she is Desi, but with a name like Alessia Leoni I don't have much hope.' On X, one user asked: 'This is frustrating. Why cast an Italian who just looks brown to play Parvati Patil? They easily could've cast an actual Indian actress. So much for 'diversity' @HBO. No hate to the kid, but still…' Monday also saw the announcement of nine additional roles in the new series: Katherine Parkinson as Molly Weasley; Lox Pratt and Johnny Flynn as Draco and Lucius Malfoy; Leo Earley as Seamus Finnigan; Sienna Moosah as Lavender Brown; Bel Powley and Daniel Rigby as Petunia and Vernon Dursley; and Bertie Carvel as Cornelius Fudge. This controversy echoes earlier backlash over the casting of Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, a character originally portrayed by Alan Rickman in the films. At that time, fans expressed outrage that the new series chose a non-white actor for a role widely identified with a white British wizard—an uproar that resurfaced debates about fidelity to the source material and authentic representation. To understand why casting authenticity matters so much to Indian fans, it helps to look back at the original Patil portrayals. In the film series, Parvati and Padma Patil were played by British actors of Bangladeshi heritage, Shefali Chowdhury and Afshan Azad, who were discovered through local school auditions. Therefore, in sum, the current casting decision has reignited frustration among fans who feel authentic representation is being overlooked once more.
