Tejasvi Surya urges global unity against terror
Georgetown (Guyana), May 26 (UNI) Bengaluru South MP Tejasvi Surya, a member of the Indian All-Party Parliamentary Delegation currently touring the Americas, underscored India's uncompromising stance against terrorism and called for global solidarity against state-sponsored terror during his visit to Guyana.
Addressing students at Texila American University, Surya highlighted India's zero-tolerance policy on terrorism under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He emphasised India's relentless battle against cross-border terrorism sponsored by Pakistan and urged the international community to unite in condemning state-backed terror activities.
He stated: "The world must unite in calling out state-sponsored terrorism and uphold peace. India, through decisive actions like Operation Sindoor, is at the forefront of this global effort."
Texila American University, a pivotal institution in strengthening India-Guyana ties, has hosted over 538 Indian students and 76 Indian faculty members since 2010. More than 234 Indian graduates from Texila now serve in Guyana's healthcare system.
While some members of the delegation visited the 9/11 Memorial in New York, Surya and Dr Sarfaraz Ahmad travelled directly to Guyana after a grueling 30-hour journey from India.
Following this, Surya and the delegation held talks with HE Bharrat Jagdeo, Vice President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana.
Speaking after the meeting, Surya said: "Our delegation met with Vice President Jagdeo and discussed a wide range of issues, including India's fight against terrorism. Jagdeo is one of the most respected leaders of his country and showed keen interest in partnering with India on key development projects. With Guyana discovering new oil reserves and sustaining an impressive growth rate of 30 per cent, the opportunities for Indian businesses are immense. We discussed these areas of synergy and cooperation between our nations."
The delegation, led by senior MP Dr Shashi Tharoor and comprising members from multiple political parties, engaged with Vice President Jagdeo — a statesman and former President of Guyana for 12 years. Jagdeo strongly condemned the recent Pahalgam terror attack and expressed firm support for India's Operation Sindoor, aimed at dismantling terrorist networks.
The discussions also explored collaboration prospects in key sectors such as infrastructure, energy, fintech, and agriculture.
This visit is part of the Government of India's ongoing multi-country initiative to project India's steadfast position against terrorism on the global stage and to garner international support against Pakistan-sponsored terror activities.

India, Central Asian nations condemn Pahalgam attack, reaffirm commitment to fighting against terrorism
New Delhi, June 6 (UNI) India and the five Central Asian countries today unequivocally condemned the terrorist attack in Pahalgam, and reaffirmed their firm commitment to fight against terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. In a joint statement, issued after the 4th meeting of the India-Central Asia Dialogue held in New Delhi today, under the chairship of External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, the countries reiterated that providing safe haven, using terrorist proxies for cross-border terrorism, terror financing, arms and drugs trafficking, dissemination of a radical ideology and abuse of cyber space to spread disinformation and incite violence, goes against the basic principles of humanity and international relations. They stressed that perpetrators, organisers, financiers and sponsors of terrorist acts must be held accountable and brought to justice. In this context, they called for early adoption of the UN Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. They also stressed the need to strengthen UN-led global counter-terrorism cooperation and fully implement the relevant UNSC resolutions, Global Counter-Terrorism Strategy and FATF standards. The participating ministers at the dialogue include: FM Sirojiddin Muhriddin of Tajikistan, Deputy PM and FM Murat Nurtleu of Kazakhstan, FM Zheenbek Kulubaev of Kyrgyz Republic, FM Rashid Meredov of Turkmenistan and FM Bakhtiyor Saidov of Uzbekistan. The Ministers appreciated the First meeting of the India-Central Asia Joint Working Group on Chabahar Port held in Mumbai in April 2023. India welcomed the interest of Central Asian countries to utilise the services of the Shahid Beheshti Terminal, being operated by India, at the Chabahar Port for facilitating their trade with India and beyond. They agreed to continue engagement for further developing the transit and transport potential of their countries, through simplification and streamlining of goods transit procedures, including greater use of TIR Carnet between India and Central Asia for movement of goods. The ministers underlined the importance of greater financial connectivity between India and Central Asian countries, including through digital payment systems, enhanced interbank relations, and trade in national currencies to encourage greater trade, investment, tourism and people-to-people exchanges. They also expressed interest in setting up a Joint Working Group to explore ways to further deepen banking and financial connectivity between India and Central Asian partners. The Ministers emphasised optimum usage of the International North-South Transport Corridor (INSTC) to enhance connectivity between India and the Central Asian countries. They stressed that connectivity initiatives should be based on the principles of transparency, broad participation, local priorities, financial sustainability, respect for sovereignty and territorial integrity of all countries. India reiterated its support for the membership of Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan in INSTC. In this context, Ministers appreciated the initiative taken by Kazakhstan to develop the eastern branch of INSTC. The Ministers noted the importance of holding regular consultations among the National Security Councils of India and the Central Asian countries to strengthen efforts to counter terrorism and other emerging challenges in the region. They looked forward to the third edition of the Consultations to be held in the Kyrgyz Republic. They also expressed interest in joint exploration of rare earth and critical minerals. Appreciating the outcomes of the first India-Central Asia Rare Earth Forum held in September 2024 in New Delhi, they called for holding the second India-Central Asia Rare Earth Forum meeting at the earliest convenience. They also encouraged exchange of delegations to explore new areas of cooperation in critical minerals. Earlier, EAM Jaishankar in a post on X said he expressed India's appreciation of the Central Asian partners condemning the heinous terrorist attack in Pahalgam. A month after Operation Sindoor's start, 2 trains send message to Pakistan
KATRA: PM Narendra Modi on Friday sought to rally people of Jammu and Kashmir against terrorism, saying Pakistan targeted the UT's tourism industry to cripple the livelihood of poor Kashmiris and accused the hostile neigbour of attacking both humanity and Kashmiriyat in Pahalgam, where terrorists had killed 25 tourists. Donald Trump 'not interested' in a call with Elon Musk after their public blowout
Washington, June 6 (UNI) President Donald Trump is "not interested" in a call with Tesla CEO Elon Musk to patch things up, after their feud exploded into public. 'There are no plans" for a call between President Trump and the billionaire Musk, White House chief of staff Susie Wiles said. Politico had reported that White House aides had scheduled a call Friday with the Tesla CEO to try to patch things up between the two men. Trump is "not interested" in a call, a senior White House official told NBC News. White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said Trump is focused on the 'One Big Beautiful Bill', the GOP domestic policy bill that Musk had trashed, which triggered their falling out. "That's the mindset he left the Oval Office in yesterday," she said. A Trump administration official added, 'There could be anything — I'd like to de-escalate a very unfortunate situation. But there are no calls on the books, at least not now.' The rift between Trump and Musk comes after friction built more quietly between the tech billionaire and others in the Trump administration during Musk's time at the Department of Government Efficiency. Musk and Wiles "didn't really have a great relationship", said one person close to Trump, who said the chief of staff would get "irritated" at Musk's attempts to give orders to Cabinet secretaries or staffers, NBC reported.
