A user's Reddit post claiming that Indians are keeping the Canadian economy afloat has sparked an online debate.
Indians are keeping the Canadian economy afloat, a netizen claimed on Reddit, sparking an online debate about the state of the local population.
In a post titled 'Huge respect to Indian Canadians", a user hailed the contribution of the Indians in the country's workforce and ultimately its economy and said that they are some of the 'hardest-working people".
The user said that he was in Toronto after almost a decade and noted a 'huge upgrade".
'I was in Toronto over the last 2 weeks after almost a decade and Indians are literally keeping the Canadian economy afloat. Every single business from McDs to Walmart has Indians. Some of the friendliest and hardest-working people I've met. Huge upgrade from the states where it's a bunch of snobby high schoolers who think they're too good to put in any effort. It's clear the racism from white people is solely because they're mad because these people have just come to Canada and are out hustling them and contributing to society more than them," the Reddit post read.
The user's opinion received mixed reactions from other users. Some agreed with the views, others described the situation as 'unfortunate".
'That isn't necessarily a good thing if the current unemployment of the country is high and the government/corporations are using immigration to keep wages low. Which is what is happening in Canada. Uncontrolled immigration without the resources or unwillingness to support it just leads to other problems. This isn't the immigrants faults but the fault of the government/businesses who refuse to address the issues the population is facing and instead focus on making profits," a user commented.
'It's an unfortunate situation. Like you can't blame people for wanting a better life and coming, but you can't blame Canadians for feeling like they're being screwed when they can't find jobs or housing," another said.
'It's very common for these international students to have PAID to be hired for those entry level positions. Many are exploited and work for 'cash' under the table meaning they wouldn't receive any government support if their employer caused them injury at work, as well as lesser pay per hour, and potentially longer working hours. But they do this because it's their path to PR and in many cases studying in Canada on borrowed money and loans they have to repay back home. The whole situation is rotten," a user said.
'Thanks bro I appreciate the kind words!" a netizen thanked.
'No offense OP. Clearly shows you a tourist in these parts, rather than someone working for a living in Toronto. Different ballgame. And Different opnions," another wrote, sharing the experience.

It may take one year to get death certificate of youths killed in Russia-Ukraine war

The anxious wait of the families of Indian nationals to get death certificates of their dear ones who died fighting for the Russian armed forces in the war with Ukraine will be longer than anticipated. Many had been allegedly tricked by promises of lucrative jobs in the Russian armed forces. According to the latest update, as many as 13 Indian nationals recruited by Russia as mercenaries in the war with Ukraine remain in the Russian armed forces. However, 12 of them have been reported missing by the Russian authorities, said Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh in Parliament. Although the Russian authorities have been urged to provide an update on all the remaining/missing individuals and ensure their safety and early discharge, a good number of them are reported to have been killed in the war. Ajith Kolassery, Chief Executive Officer of NoRKA-Roots, said Binil Babu, 32, one of the two youths from Thrissur forcibly enlisted by the Russian Army, was killed in a shell attack on the Russia-Ukraine warfront in January and had been reportedly included on the missing list. 'Recently, during a visit to Russia, I personally enquired about the possibility of confirming the death and issuing a death certificate at the earliest. However, it will take at least one year to get it confirmed and for issuing the death certificate,' said Mr. Kolassery. As per official information, there were 127 Indian nationals in the Russian armed forces, of which the services of 98 had been discontinued as a result of sustained engagement between the Indian and Russian governments. However, it is assumed that more Indians, including Keralites, had been recruited to the Russian armed forces as mercenaries. Since the majority of them were not on the warfront without imminent danger, their families refuse to come up with plea to rescue them, said Mr. Kolassery. Earlier, another Keralite, identified as Sandeep Chandran, 36, from Thrissur, had died in shelling in Ukraine in August 2024.

Bad news for Pakistan supporter Turkey as Ankara's tourism economy sinks due to…, Erdogan staring at destruction due to… After Ankara came out in support of Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan war, a 'Boycott Turkey' campaign was started in India as Indians boycotted Turkish goods and cancelled tourist bookings to the country. Advertisement (File) Turkey, which openly supported Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan conflict after Operation Sindoor, is now paying a heavy price of the decision, as Ankara's tourism economy has dipped by a massive 37 percent, primarily because of Indian tourists boycotting the country as a tourist destination. Why India's boycott hit Turkish economy? After Ankara came out in support of Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan war, a 'Boycott Turkey' campaign was started in India as Indians boycotted Turkish goods and cancelled tourist bookings to the country, resulting in a huge decline in the number of Indian tourists visiting to Turkey. Advertisement === According to media reports, the number of Indian tourists who visited Turkey in June slumped to 24,250 from the 38,307 in the same month last year, a decline of 37 percent, while the numbers also dropped significantly in the month of May, dealing a major blow to Turkey's tourism industry and its economy. Notably, India-based travel portals such as MakeMyTrip, EaseMyTrip and Cleartrip have also stopped promoting Turkey as a tourist destination, resulting in further decline. Advertisement === Following Turkey's open support to Pakistan, India took a slew of measures to downgrade ties with Eurasian country, including cancelling major business deals with Turkish firms. How Turkey supported Pakistan during Operation Sindoor? Turkey, along with China and Azerbaijan, was among the few countries that openly supported Pakistan during the recent India-Pakistan conflict, and also armed the Pakistani forces with advanced military drones like the Bayraktar TB2, which were actively used against Indian installations during Operation Sindoor. Following the conflict, Turkey has boosted its strategic and military ties with Pakistan, and is likely to offer its state-of-the-art ALKA-KAPLAN laser tank to Islamabad, which could pose a major threat to India as it would significantly boost the enemy's capability to counter Indian UCAVs, such as those used to target terrorist and military infrastructure in Pakistan during Operation Sindoor

Rise in road accidents due to human error, utility-infra works: Goa CM

Panaji, Aug 1 (PTI) The rise in road accidents is primarily due to human error and ongoing utility-related infrastructure works, Goa Chief Minister Pramod Sawant said in the assembly on Friday. Responding to a calling attention motion tabled by Leader of Opposition Yuri Alemao and other MLAs, Sawant said road infrastructure development is a continuous process which involves not only construction and improvement but also coordination with multiple departments for laying utilities such as water supply, electricity, telecom and sewerage. 'During this process, roads are often damaged but are later restored to a motorable condition. In most cases, the poor condition of roads is a result of utility works. However, maximum efforts are being made to mitigate the inconvenience to road users," the CM said. 'Road safety is a shared responsibility among all stakeholders. Most accidents are caused by human error such as rash and negligent driving, drunken driving, and overspeeding," he asserted. The CM said the Public Works Department (PWD) had taken several measures in compliance with Supreme Court Committee on Road Safety guidelines, including restoration and maintenance of crash barriers, construction of standardised speed breakers and rumble strips, imposition of speed limits, installation of traffic signboards and road markings, and median plantations. 'Show cause notices have been issued to several defaulting contractors, and repairs at various locations have been carried out under the Defect Liability Period (DLP) at the contractors' own cost. Regular road maintenance is being undertaken to ensure smooth and incident-free vehicular movement across the state," the CM told the House.
