CBS News18-07-2025
Five people have been indicted in Boulder County in connection with a criminal enterprise responsible for over $200,000 in thefts and property damage.
Authorities said members of the Tequila Sunset Enterprise broke into liquor stores and retail stores across the Front Range in order to steal bottles of liquor and merchandise. The group reportedly used stolen vehicles, mostly Jeeps, to target stores in Arvada, Brighton, Broomfield, Erie, Lafayette, Louisville, Northglenn, Superior, Westminster and other locations, then sold the stolen merchandise.
County officials said the group is responsible for over $153,272 in thefts and over $54,005 in property damage.
After an investigation by multiple area police departments and the district attorney's office, four people were indicted on violations of the Colorado Organized Crime Control Act, along with other charges. The suspects include Tabor Jaramillo-Trujillo, Mason Grantham, Abram Valdez and Isaiah Akridge. A fifth defendant, Emiley Webb, was indicted on charges of false information to a pawnbroker.

Colorado personal trainer convicted of sexual assault of a child

A personal trainer in Colorado was convicted by a jury last week of multiple charges related to sexual assault of minors who were athletes at his Parker gym. In 2022, Parker police arrested personal trainer Aaron Carrado for sexually assaulting one of the kids he was training. At the time, they were looking for other possible victims. On Thursday, a jury found him guilty of 12 charges, including six counts of "sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust as a pattern of abuse." Danielle Jaramillo, chief deputy district attorney of the family violence unit in Colorado's 23rd Judicial District, says it was the courage of Carrado's victims that put him behind bars. "I was super relieved for these victims," Jaramillo said. "I felt like- they felt that their voices were really heard, so I was really, really relieved for them and for the community." Jaramillo says when she went to trial in the case against Carrado, getting a conviction was important to her. "The concern was that he would get right back out in the public, feel emboldened with what he did, felt like no one cared enough to convict him of that," she said. "I think (acquittals) really emboldened sex offenders to believe that what they did wasn't wrong, and that it's okay to continue to do things like that." In 2022, Carrado was charged with four counts of sexual assault on a child by one in a position of trust, four counts of unlawful sexual contact, and two counts of sexual exploitation of a child. Police alleged that he assaulted teen athletes he was supposed to be training at his gym, "Strength in Christ," among other locations. His now ex-wife says she found a phone with explicit messages between him and his young clients. She's the one who turned him in to law enforcement. Carrado then fled to Montana. Jarmillo says the evidence Carrado's ex-wife provided helped bolster the case against him. "We had DNA testing done, we had a lot of forensic analysis done on different phones that we received, both from the defendant as well as from the victim," she said. But Jaramillo says she thinks it was the courage of his victims, who are now adults, that swayed the jury and led to Carrado's conviction: "They just did an incredible job on the witness stand." Carrado is now facing 8 years to life in prison. He's 51 now, and Jaramillo says she would want a sentence that keeps him in jail for the rest of his life. Ultimately, however, his fate lies in the hands of a judge. Carrado will be sentenced on Nov. 13.

2 arrested, accused in connection with Oak Fire in southwestern Colorado

Two suspects have been arrested for their connection to the Oak Fire that started in Aspen Springs in southwestern Colorado earlier this month. Sergio Alaniz Jr., 41 and Ross Heirigs, 60, were arrested on arson charges, according to the Archuleta County Sheriff's Office. Investigators said the Oak Fire was started by an illegal burn at 152 Oak Drive in Aspen Springs on the afternoon of Aug. 10. Aspen Springs is located about 10 miles west of Pagosa Springs. That burn was, according to law enforcement, in violation of an ordinance for the regulation of open burning in unincorporated Archuleta County. The sheriff's office said the fire quickly spread through the subdivision and into another subdivision before firefighters were able to contain it. The Oak Fire burned approximately 75 acres. Some buildings were destroyed and other property was damaged.

Thieves steal pink diamond worth $25 million, caught hours later

Dubai police said on Monday they caught three thieves just hours after they stole a precious pink diamond worth $25 million. "The Dubai Police General Command has foiled the theft of a very rare pink diamond, valued at $25 million," the police said in a statement shared by the United Arab Emirates' official news agency WAM. A diamond trader who had brought the jewel from Europe was lured to a villa by a crime gang under the pretense of a viewing by a potential wealthy client, police said. But the gem was stolen when the diamond dealer arrived for the bogus inspection, the statement added. "I just had a problem," a man can be heard saying on an emergency call released by the Dubai Media Office. "I came to meet a client to sell a diamond to them. They looked at the stone and now ... it's stolen." Within eight hours three people from an unspecified Asian country were arrested "thanks to the efforts of specialized and field teams, and by using the latest artificial intelligence technologies," police said. Video footage shared by the Dubai Media Office showed the three men with their faces blurred after their arrest as well as CCTV footage of the gang. Dubai is an important hub for diamond trading. Tightly controlled and policed, the UAE prides itself on its security and stability. The heist came just days after police said a group of thieves stole $2 million of merchandise from a family-owned jewelry store in Seattle in a daylight robbery that took only 90 seconds. Alaska Sen.
