Ipoh police nab man caught on CCTV stealing women's undergarments
IPOH, May 8 — A 48-year-old man was arrested yesterday for stealing women's underwear after the criminal act was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) in the Mengelembu area here.
Ipoh police chief ACP Abang Zainal Abidin Abang Ahmad said police apprehended the suspect at 11 am, following a report lodged by a woman yesterday.
He said the CCTV footage provided by the 45-year-old complainant showed the suspect, who was riding a motorcycle, stopping in front of the house before stealing undergarments that she put out to dry on the house gate.
He said the local man would be brought to the Ipoh Magistrate's Court to be remanded tomorrow, adding that investigations revealed that the suspect had no criminal records.
'We will open an investigation paper under Section 379 of the Penal Code for theft,' he said in a statement yesterday. — Bernama

Police to probe AI-edited gambling videos, says IGP
KUALA LUMPUR: The police will promptly initiate investigations should there be any use of artificial intelligence (AI)-altered videos promoting gambling activities. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Razarudin Husain said that, to date, most gambling-related cases had involved influencers and static image promotions. "Although no police reports have been received thus far concerning AI-edited videos featuring celebrities, investigations will be carried out if such content comes to light. Victims of these syndicates are urged to lodge police reports," he said when contacted. He said that under the ongoing Op Dadu, a total of 28 investigation papers had been opened this year in connection with influencer-linked gambling promotions in Kuala Lumpur and Selangor. "Of these, 18 have been prosecuted, while 10 are still under investigation," he said. From 2021 to 2024, police blocked access to 3,785 gambling-related websites. "For 2024 alone, as of now, we have conducted 7,800 raids involving illegal gambling activities, which have led to the arrest of 9,460 individuals," he added. Razarudin said that the rapid advancement of technology and the use of highly secure platforms had complicated efforts to secure adequate evidence in court, especially in online gambling cases. "There is currently no specific legal definition for 'online gambling' under existing laws, which makes enforcement difficult and enables many cases to be challenged in court," he said. He also highlighted the fact that the primary legislation governing such offences — the Betting Act 1953 — had not been amended for decades, with outdated provisions and penalties that were no longer a deterrent. "Those involved in online gambling, whether individuals or syndicates, will face the full force of the law. Offenders risk heavy fines and custodial sentences," he said.

Razman hopes Perak exco man not given ‘immunity' in caricature probe
Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria (left) has demanded that DAP's Woo Kah Leong apologise over a caricature post deemed offensive. PETALING JAYA : Perak opposition leader Razman Zakaria has urged authorities not to grant any 'immunity' to state executive councillor Woo Kah Leong, who is under police investigation over a social media post featuring an allegedly offensive caricature of him. The Gunong Semanggol assemblyman said he had demanded an apology from Woo, but that none was forthcoming. Instead, he said DAP continued to defend its youth chief's actions. He warned that any failure to act could erode public support for the state government led by Umno and Pakatan Harapan (PH). 'To the Umno-led state government leaders in Perak, like it or not, this is the quality of an exco member from DAP,' he said in a statement. 'If you have any honour, just resign from the exco post because the people are always watching and will judge what happens as a result of such irresponsible behaviour. 'It's not impossible that the people will reject you over this issue.' Police recorded Woo's statement yesterday in connection with the investigation into the allegedly provocative social media post. Woo had posted the caricature on Facebook alongside a statement in April. It depicted Razman as a clown riding a unicycle on a tightrope, labelling the Perak PAS chief as 'raja fitnah' ('the king of slander'). This was believed to be in reference to the various instances in which Razman had apologised to PH leaders over various accusations he had made against them. The PAS man has demanded that Woo apologise openly for the 'provocative' posting. However, Woo has stood by his Facebook post, saying it was not a personal attack but satire. He also said the police report stifled freedom of speech.

Eighty-year-old retired policeman crashes car into Melaka eatery, hospitalised
ALOR GAJAH, June 3 — A retired policeman sustained minor head injuries after losing control of the car he was driving and crashing into a roadside eatery at Jalan Pantai Belimbing, Durian Tunggal, here yesterday. Alor Gajah district police chief Supt Ashari Abu Samah said the victim, Md Nor Md Shah, 80, suffered swelling on his head due to the accident, while part of the eatery's front porch collapsed in the 2.55pm incident. 'Investigations found that the senior citizen was travelling from Pulau Sebang to Taman Melaka Perdana when he reportedly lost control of the vehicle and veered off the road. 'Fortunately, no customers were at the eatery at the time of the incident. The victim was taken to Alor Gajah Hospital for treatment,' he said in a statement yesterday. — Bernama
