Company director loses over RM800,000 to investment scam
Kluang police chief ACP Bahrin Mohd Noh said the 56-year-old man came across an investment advertisement promising high returns on social media in March.
After contacting the so-called investment 'agent', the victim was instructed to download an app called 'PHV View' to participate.
"Between June 5 and July 9, he transferred RM829,705 in stages to five different bank accounts for the supposed return of RM4,669,065.25 shown on the app,' he said in a statement on Sunday (July 13).
However, the man was then told he had to make further payments to withdraw the profits.
Realising he had been scammed, the victim lodged a police report on July 10 at the Kluang Police Station. The case is being investigated under Section 420 of the Penal Code for cheating. - Bernama

Mentally ill woman remanded for assaulting child at grocery store
NILAI: A woman who holds a Persons with Disabilities (PwD) card was arrested last night for allegedly assaulting an 11-year-old boy at a grocery shop in the Sri Palma Villa housing area in Mantin. The incident occurred at around 12.30pm yesterday, when the woman is believed to have suspected the boy of stealing items from the store. Nilai district police chief Superintendent Abdul Malik Hasim said police received a report at 3.30pm from a local woman who claimed that her son had been attacked and threatened by a woman known to her. "A team from the Nilai district police headquarters arrested a woman in her 30s at around 11pm for allegedly injuring the boy," he said in a statement today. Police also seized a grey hooded sweatshirt and a toy weapon as evidence. Abdul Malik said initial investigations showed the victim had been buying a drink when the suspect suddenly kicked and stomped on his face and legs. "She is also accused of threatening to kill the boy. The incident was captured on closed-circuit television (CCTV) and witnessed by another customer," he said. He added that the suspect holds a PwD card and is believed to suffer from mental health issues. "She was reportedly hallucinating at the time and accused the victim of stealing, although there is no evidence to support the claim," he said. The victim was treated at Tuanku Ja'afar Hospital (HTJ) in Seremban for swelling to the nose and bruising on parts of his legs. The case is being investigated under Sections 323 and 506 of the Penal Code for causing hurt and criminal intimidation. The suspect was brought before the Seremban Magistrate's Court this morning, where a four-day remand was granted until July 19 to facilitate investigations.

Police bust major heroin syndicate in northern Malaysia, RM4.13m drugs seized
SHAH ALAM: Police have dismantled a heroin base drug distribution network operating in northern Malaysia after arresting three men in coordinated raids across the Klang Valley and Penang. The operation, led by Bukit Aman's Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID), uncovered 47.526 kg of heroin base and 920 grams of heroin worth RM4.13 million. Selangor Police Chief Datuk Hussein Omar Khan confirmed the arrests on July 12, following raids in Subang Jaya, Seri Kembangan, and Permatang Pauh. The first suspect was detained in USJ 19/4, Subang Jaya, where officers found 14.52 kg of heroin base and 920 grams of heroin hidden in a car compartment. A second raid in Seri Kembangan led to the seizure of 22.55 kg of heroin base, while a third operation in Permatang Pauh uncovered 7.456 kg of the drug. The Penang suspect is believed to be the syndicate's mastermind, sourcing heroin from a neighbouring country before distributing it via two transporters, who earned RM4,000 per trip. Hussein described heroin base as the 'mother of drugs,' explaining its role as a raw material processed into higher-grade narcotics. KUALA LUMPUR, July 16 (Bernama) -- Malaysia has the potential to develop a more efficient National Address System (NAS), comparable to those of other developed nations such as Australia, according to Geoscape Australia's Chief Technical Officer, Joseph Abhayaratna. He said this was due to the shared characteristics in terms of administrative structure, and technical challenges in developing the system, which was aimed to serve as the main reference for managing addresses nationwide. "Both countries have multiple states and territorial jurisdictions, each with its own address databases and lists. So, I believe we share a similar starting point. "Along with the similar challenges we faced in urban addressing, I believe what we have been able to achieve in Australia is also applicable to the Malaysian context," he told reporters when met at the National Address Conference 2025, here today. Prior to this, Communications Minister Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has essentially agreed to implement the NAS during the Digital Economy and Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR) Council meeting on June 24 last year. Fahmi said the system has also been identified as a 'needle mover' under the Malaysia Digital Economy Blueprint and the National 4IR Policy, aimed at realising the government's aspiration to make Malaysia a high-income nation driven by digitalisation and a regional leader in the digital economy. Abhayaratna noted that Australia's NAS, developed by Geoscape, had contributed over AUD 1.4 billion in economic value, establishing it as one of the country's key national assets. 'It's a very conservative estimate, but it gives you a sense of the kind of value you can derive from this. I believe these kinds of drivers, and what we've been able to accomplish in Australia, show what can be achieved under the right circumstances with proper planning,' he said. He also praised Malaysia's efforts through the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) in developing the NAS as a unified and authoritative address system officially endorsed by the government.
