A POPULAR shopping centre has been evacuated amid fears of a gas leak.
Chatham Dockside in Kent was evacuated after a "strong gal-like" smell was reported in the air.

The Odeon cinema and Costa Coffee were closed around 1pm.
An office nearby was also evacuated, with staff told to work from home.
Around 40 workers were sighted waiting to be let back in this afternoon, KentOnline reported.
Emergency crews are on site to check for a possible gas leak.
The rest of the businesses remain open.

The aircraft is believed to have suffered a technical issue on the runway before colliding into a second small plane on the taxiway. A loud explosion was heard as a fire quickly spread across the tarmac and onto a grassy part of the airport. It is believed that at least four people were onboard the crashed aircraft at the time. No one was on the stationary plane, reports 8KPAX. The Kalispell Police Department, Flathead County Sheriff's Office and local firefighters all rushed to the tarmac after the crash. The first emergency call came in at 2:08pm. Investigations are ongoing into what caused the accident. The fire broke out just after 4pm today at a waste management facility on Cornets End Lane, Meriden Depot, Coventry. 1 A specialist high-volume water pumping unit was also sent to the scene Credit: West Midlands Fire Service Emergency crews rushed to the scene as thick smoke rose from the site. Around 60 firefighters, nine fire engines, two brigade response vehicles and a hydraulic aerial platform were deployed to tackle the flames, which were tearing through three quarters of the 80-metre by 40-metre building. A specialist high-volume water pumping unit was also sent to the scene. A spokesperson said: 'We were called to a significant fire involving a large building at a waste management facility in Meriden. "Crews are working hard to protect the rest of the building, and liaising closely with on-site staff to bring the incident to a safe conclusion.' As of 6pm, the incident was still ongoing. In this edition of The War Room we turn to Victory in Japan Day, celebrated on August 15th in Britain, and on September 2nd in America, the date when the official surrender documents were signed aboard USS Missouri in Tokyo Bay. This year marks the 80th anniversary of the Japanese surrender. Before we begin, let me direct you to Archive 1945, in which we have been revisiting our coverage of the closing months of the second world war. You will find the latest entry from this project further down in this newsletter, and the final instalment (a report on the Japanese surrender) will be published later this week. An accompanying By Invitation guest essay, written by Eri Hotta, a historian, argues that Japan stayed in the conflict longer than necessary. The following histories, along with one biography, chronicle the very end of the war and its immediate aftermath. Of course, the decision to drop the atomic bombs on Japan looms large, but these books have also been chosen to reflect how the consequences of Japan's war in Asia reverberated long afterwards. As ever, War Room readers generously gave their time to help us compile this list.
