Vidarbha Pro T20 League: Giving players freedom is key to success, says NECO Master Blaster's Jitesh Sharma

Master Blaster's batter Jitesh Sharma feels that the freedom given to young players has been a defining factor in the team's resurgence and overall performance in the ongoing Vidarbha Pro T20 League.
NECO Master Blaster have qualified for the semi-final of the Vidarbha Pro T20 League and are raring to go. After losing the first match, NECO Master Blaster won three matches on trot to make a comeback.
Aryan Meshram has been the standout performer, smashing three half-centuries and anchoring crucial wins for the side. Alongside him, R Sanjay has also made significant contributions, helping the team stay consistent with the bat.
Speaking after the team's qualification for the knockouts, Jitesh said, 'When you give freedom to the talent, this is what happens. Aryan Meshram is one such example. That's why giving freedom to juniors and upcoming players is important – so that they can enjoy the game and express themselves on the field.'
Reflecting on the team's mindset, Jitesh added, 'I've told my teammates – go and enjoy on the field. If you love hitting sixes, go hit sixes from the first ball. It doesn't matter if you get out. I'm proud of my batters for the way they've responded to this approach.'
However, while the batting has flourished under this fearless style of play, Jitesh acknowledged that bowling remains an area of concern. 'One thing we need to work on is our bowling. As we head into the semi-finals, it's important we tighten up in that department,' he said.

'Looked calm and composed but...': Sachin Tendulkar delivers verdict on Gill's captaincy

Live Events (You can now subscribe to our (You can now subscribe to our Economic Times WhatsApp channel 'Master Blaster' Sachin Tendulkar believes Shubman Gill had a "fantastic approach" during his first captaincy assignment for India in Test format, but feels there were areas where things could have been done differently. India's youngest Test captain , Gill, led his side from the front and concluded the exacting Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy on level terms with a 2-2 scoreline. There were plenty of speculations and prophecies about how Gill would fare in the colossal the five Tests, Gill was tested by a much refined England's 'Bazball' style of play. With enough firepower and players with robust technique, the Three Lions put Gill and India in a pickle. The opening pacers leaked runs, criticism of the team's composition and bowlers' rotation posed challenges that Gill had to emphasised that despite the peculiar nature of the dilemma he was in, Gill maintained his calm and composed nature while trying to tussle for control and conjuring a way to steer his side out of the conundrum."Captaincy has a lot to do with how bowlers are bowling, how disciplined they are, and how long they can persist with their plans. Sometimes, when things do not go their way, they start experimenting," Sachin said in a video posted on his Reddit is where the captain feels that the 11 players he has are not enough; I need 2-3 more because runs are flowing from both ends, and it is not comforting at all. He still looked calm and composed. When a partnership is going on, it is difficult for any captain to have a game plan and dry those runs," he legendary batter and former skipper felt India could have tried to put the foot off the accelerator to slow things down instead of matching England's intensity, who love to bat at a brisk pace. While adopting a "boring" style of cricket, Sachin believed India could have benefited from their fielding."When you play against England, you can afford to play boring cricket. If you try slowing things down, they will try putting their foot on the accelerator harder. This could work in favour of the fielding side sometimes. Overall, he controlled the team and game well," he said."There were areas where things could have been different, but everyone has different opinions; it was his first series against perhaps the most attacking side in the world. The way they bat, no one else brings that approach. Overall, a fantastic approach. 2-2. Things could have been different, but there are no ifs and buts in cricket," he the personal front, from Leeds to London, Gill's robust technique stole the show and made headlines for changing historical records on numerous occasions. He pulled the curtains down on his stellar campaign as the leading run-getter with a whopping tally of 754 at 75.40.

(Photo by) Mumbai: Vidarbha and Royal Challengers Bengaluru wicketkeeper Jitesh Sharma and J&K pacer Rasikh Salam Dar will represent Baroda in the upcoming domestic season. Both players have apparently made the switch with help from their RCB teammate and Baroda captain, Krunal Pandya . Jitesh, 31, captained Vidarbha in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy last season, leading them to the quarterfinals, but did not feature in any matches during the 2024–25 Ranji Trophy . He has played nine T20Is for India (100 runs @ 14.28), and was a star performer for IPL 2025 champions RCB (261 runs in 15 matches @ 37.28, with one fifty and a strike rate of 176.35, including a top score of 85 not out in a league stage match and a crucial cameo of 24 off 10 balls in the final against his former IPL team, Punjab Kings). Watch: Jitesh Sharma Denied Entry At Lords, Dials Dinesh Karthik For Help

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma had to struggle while making his way to the Lord's to watch the third Test. The home of cricket – Lord's, recently witnessed an epic Test match between India and England. Though the hosts clinched a narrow win, the fight put up by Shubman Gill's young Indian side was truly commendable. The spectators stacked up in numbers on all five days to enjoy the game, while some had to face a little inconvenience to enter the stadium. Indian wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma had to deal with an obstacle while making his way to the Lord's gallery. He had to prove his identity before the security personnel let him in. Meanwhile, an Indian cricket fan spotted Jitesh struggling at the entry point and decided to make a vlog out of it. The X user, with username @jadejamayur010, captured Jitesh hustling to enter the arena. The user further stated that the Indian keeper-batter had to call Dinesh Karthik outside the venue and sort his entry. The video also shows Karthik, who has been on commentary duties in the ongoing series, speaking to someone over his phone (probably Jitesh) and signing a few autographs before heading back in. Here's the vlog: India put up a great fight in the chase of 194, but England clinched a 22-run win, leading the series 2-1. Despite the victory, they have been docked a couple of points on the World Test Championship (WTC) tally for slow over-rate. The hosts have also been fined 10 per cent of their match fee after the Test, which they won by 22 runs on Monday. 'In accordance with Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, which relates to minimum over-rate offences, players are fined five per cent of their match fee for every over their side fails to bowl in the allotted time," the ICC said in a statement. 'In addition, as per Article 16.11.2 of the ICC World Test Championship playing conditions, a side is penalised one point for each over short. Consequently, two World Test Championship points have been deducted from England's points total," it added. England's tally in the World Test Championship standings dropped from 24 to 22 out of 36 points, consequently reducing their point percentage (PCT) from 66.67 per cent to 61.11 per cent. As a result, Sri Lanka, with 66.67 PCT, have taken over England to be second. view comments First Published: July 16, 2025, 15:29 IST Disclaimer: Comments reflect users' views, not News18's.
