He recalled that the person in question pulled out a hammer and attempted to hit him.
Bisping has now asked for more information about a notorious serial killer who he believes could be the same person that attacked him.
He said: "A story was put on Twitter the other day about some notorious serial killer in the north of England between the 1990s and the 2000s who apparently is now locked up in prison for rape and murder.
"He has been telling stories about the time he came to my house in the 1990s and tried to kill me.

"The thing is, in the 1990s, around 1997, I lived in this little flat above a greengrocer's and someone did knock on the door, sprayed me in the face with CS gas.
"They had a canister of petrol or gasoline and he was trying to burn the place down. Then he pulled out a lump hammer and I fought him off, chased him out the house.
"We found out later by the police when they investigated and forensics came round, he'd climbed in through the window earlier that day and disconnected my phone line.
"I was trying to call the police and he was just kind of watching me and then when he was convinced that I was actually talking to someone, he dropped the petrol or the gasoline and pulled out a lump hammer and then came over towards me.
"I didn't know who it was, the police never caught him. I had my theories at the time because I'd had a few little skirmishes but no solid evidence. Now, almost 20 years later, some serial killer is in prison apparently saying it was him.
"Apparently it's a YouTube channel on true crime called That Chapter. If you know anything about this let me know because I'm dying to know more. I'm going to do a YouTube video breaking it all down.

"Apparently he's a notorious killer, the Hammer Killer from the north west of England, so a bit of a mad one."
Bisping then concluded: "What do you know about this Chapter and the guy who tried to kill me? Because if you know who he is I'm going to bloody kill him."
The MMA star retired from UFC in 2017, 13 years after making his professional fighting debut.
During his career he held the UFC middleweight title and the Cage Rage light heavyweight title.
Bisping has since dipped into the world of acting and has featured in films such as Den of Thieves and XXX: The Return of Xander Cage.

One is reportedly in a serious condition. Concerning footage shows how the chairs suddenly jolt before dropping several feet as they pass along the line above the resort. Riders can be heard screaming as they crash down to the ground and land in trees, on the road and in the 22ft deep Lake Trek. Other passengers were left stranded in midair still strapped into their chairs. Thirteen people had to be "evacuated" by the emergency services in the end. A major rescue operation was also put in place to rescue those who had collapsed on the ground and take them to hospital. A child was among those hurt in the chairlift collapse. A regional health ministry spokesman confirmed one patient is in serious condition in an intensive care unit. The chairlift - to a local scenic viewing point - was originally built in 1968. A preliminary investigation into the cause of the accident says wear and tear of the cables is considered as the main reason. According to local media, there had been several complaints about the state of the cable car. Tourists had even described it as "rusty" and "old". A criminal case has been opened into the incident. 6 Officials found a woman stuck on a bank after the crash Credit: East2West
