So this happened last night at Trader Joe's in Prescott. I have not been able to wear a mask from day one due to a medical issue. But I am perfectly healthy otherwise. All this time, I have been able to enter the store without an issue for the past year as I have had a good rapport with some team members and most of the management team, especially the store manager whom I would touch base with from time to time to make sure I'm still good for entering the store. I had even been going in on Sunday evenings when there was a minimal amount of people. Well, I was surprised and dismayed to see this policy change, even though the numbers have been going down at a rapid pace. Now I'm expected to use this "special" cart when I go in. Really, it is humiliating, discriminatory, and bullying. Simply being punished and embarrassed for not being able to wear a mask. Might as well put flashing lights with bells and whistles on the cart, too. Definitely feeling more and more like I'm being treated as a Leper.
I have already been "banned" from two stores I used a lot. That's where I eventually see this going.

How green spaces can help get kids outside and keep them cool

For Saul Maldonado, planting with his 7-year-old son, Nicholas, isn't just a hobby — the family is putting down roots in their Los Angeles community while transforming the playground at Nicholas' school. "Kids stay indoors," Maldonado told CBS News. "They want to be on the tablet. They want to be on the phone because there's nowhere safe for them to be outside and play." Outdoor play isn't always easy to come by. An estimated 28 million kids in the U.S. don't have easy access to parks or green spaces, according to the nonprofit Trust for Public Land. "If you look around our community outside these walls, what we really have is a concrete jungle," said Adriana Abich, who runs Camino Nuevo Charter Academy, where Nicholas is a student. Until recently, the school's playground was mostly asphalt, which had drawbacks beyond its look. Blacktops absorb and trap heat, and can reach up to 145 degrees Fahrenheit. Abich said it was a drain on the students. She said the difference between students coming back from the playground and their peers was noticeable. "Being tired, being extremely overheated," Abich said. The school partnered with Trust for Public Land to rebuild and maintain a new outdoor space. Nola Eaglin Talmage, a program director at the Trust for Public Land's Los Angeles Parks for People, showed CBS News how the new grass and greenery help cool the playground by a whopping 40 degrees. "Providing children shade to play is a critical health need," she said. "Beyond the heat, trees and plants mitigate pollution. The more canopy trees we can provide, the more those trees are actually cleaning the air for the children." The nonprofit is on a mission to provide even more access to nature. "For kids, it helps them with their development, ability to regulate emotions, with their ability to imagine and conceive," Talmage said. Genesis, 9, remembers the old blacktop. She said she didn't like playing on it, but enjoys the new green space. "It's more natural, it's more fun, 'cause there's grass, you can play," she said. Maldonado said that years from now, "I want my community to be clean. I want the community to be safe. I want to see families with, with their kids at the park, playing and riding a bike."

Minnesota man missing while hiking in Wyoming's Bighorn Mountains

By WCCO reporter Ashley Grams A Minnesota man is missing in Wyoming after spending a few days hiking in the Bighorn Mountains. The Big Horn County Sheriff's Office says Grant Gardner planned a three-day hike through the Misty Moon Lake area and summited Cloud Peak, at 13,000 feet, on July 29. The sheriff says Grant Gardner texted his wife at the summit and told her he made it, but the climb was "more taxing than he expected." The sheriff's office started a search and rescue operation on Aug. 1, and searchers found his car in the parking lot of a nearby trailhead. Grant Gardner's brother, Justin Gardner, has been on the ground in Wyoming helping with the search. He describes his brother as an avid outdoorsman who is a loving husband and father of two. "There's still a lot of hope that we'll find him," said Justin Gardner. Friends of the Gardner family in Lakeville, Minnesota, say Grant Gardner often took solo trips and was used to cold conditions. "It was a well-thought-out, very planned, meticulous itinerary," said friend Becka Lyke, who said Grant Gardner's wife notified search teams of his absence. "Their family is one of the most amazing families," said friend Elaina Weiers. "I know Grant is a wonderful husband, you can tell he truly loves his wife and his kids." The women are asking for anyone who might have seen Gardner or spent time on Cloud Peak to share information with search and rescue teams. The sheriff's office says many agencies and community members are involved in the search, including the Wyoming Army National Guard and private pilots. "In addition to high altitude and terrain challenges, difficult weather patterns including winds, thunder and lightning storms have made search efforts difficult at various times of the day," the Big Horn County Sheriff's Office wrote on Facebook. The sheriff's office is asking anyone with information to reach out at 307-568-2324.
