Dame Emma Thompson shares surprising reality of her Harry Potter appearance
Dame Emma Thompson, who played Professor Trelawney in Harry Potter, has made a confession about the film that will leave Potterheads in tears.
The Harry Potter film franchise was a decade-long success that was jam-packed with almost every single British actor who was working at the time.
Fiona Shaw, Alan Rickman, Maggie Smith, Julie Walters, Robbie Coltrane, Ralph Fiennes, Michael Gambon, and Gary Oldman were among the many actors to grace the screen in the eight-part franchise.
One of the most beloved performances in the series came from Dame Emma Thompson, who played the Divination Professor, Sybil Trelawney.
The character was a loopy caricature of a somewhat fraudulent fortune-teller who predicted death in every lesson and came across as pretty darn bonkers – but harmless, making her a fan-favourite character in the franchise.
However, while the character may have played a key role in the films and be totally beloved by fans, Dame Emma, 66, confessed that Potter doesn't have a huge place in her heart.

'It's not really an important part of my creative endeavours,' she confessed while at the Locarno Film Festival, where this year she was a guest of honour, as reported by Deadline.
'I'm really sorry,' added to any Potter fans in the audience.
'I don't mean to be rude to those of you who like Harry Potter, but you know, I came in, did a bit with glasses and a lot of hair, and then left having been quite well paid.'
The actress first appeared in the third Potter movie in the franchise, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban.
She later reprised the role in the fifth and eighth movies in the franchise; The Order of Phoenix and The Deathly Hallows Part 2.

The star's appearance in the film series was particularly notable as she joined the franchise after her ex-husband, Sir Kenneth Branagh, who played Gilderoy Lockhart in the second film, Chamber of Secrets.
The fifth film also saw Helena Bonham-Carter join the movies as Death Eater Bellatrix Lestrange.
Dame Emma and Sir Kenneth's six-year marriage ended in 1995 as a result of the apparent unfaithfulness, which came after Sir Kenneth and Helena appeared together in 1994's Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.

He publicly dated Helena until 1999 when the pair split after six years together.
In 2022, Dame Emma told the New Yorker: 'I was utterly, utterly blind to the fact that he had relationships with other women on set. What I learned was how easy it is to be blinded by your own desire to deceive yourself.'
She has been married for 27 years to her Sense and Sensibility co-star and now-husband Greg Wise.

Three more Strictly Come Dancing contestants announced on The One Show
The trio were announced as the latest recruits for the upcoming season live on BBC One's The One Show on Monday. Speaking from the studio after her reveal, former Love Island winner Dyer said: 'It's such a fun magical show – to be asked to do it is such an honour. Hasselbaink also teased the idea that he might be bringing a few of his former footballing friends along to watch live. 'I'm in contact with Robbie (Fowler), with Carlo Cudicini, so who knows,' he said. They join Olympic sprinter and Gladiators star Harry Aikines-Aryeetey, who was the first contestant confirmed for the 2025 line-up earlier in the day. Aikines-Aryeetey, known as Nitro on the rebooted Gladiators, previously competed in last year's Strictly Come Dancing Christmas Special and described his decision to return as 'so nice I just had to do it twice'. In July, the BBC announced that two 'incredible' new professional dancers, US-born Alexis Warr and Australian dancer Julian Caillon, would be joining the show, which starts this autumn. Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman are back to present with Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse, Anton Du Beke and Shirley Ballas returning as judges. Strictly will return to BBC One and BBC iPlayer for its new series this September.

Crossbasket Castle, located around 20 minutes from the city, has expanded its offering following a £20 million redevelopment. The upgrade included the launch of an enhanced restaurant in partnership with Michelin-starred chef Michel Roux Jr. Now, the historic venue is turning its attention to wellbeing, encouraging visitors to 'step away from the everyday' and reconnect with themselves, Glasgow Live reports. The new wellness series begins with two full-day retreats on Wednesday August 27 and Sunday September 21. Guests will be welcomed with herbal teas or a light spritz before embarking on a day designed to promote movement, mindfulness and rest. The morning sessions will feature guided journaling, breath awareness and gentle yoga, followed by yoga nidra, a deep relaxation practice. A light and nourishing lunch will be served at the castle's Foveran's restaurant, with dishes carefully chosen to complement the retreat's focus on balance and wellbeing. Day one includes tailored yoga sessions and intention setting, followed by an evening of guided meditation, breathwork and a Release and Let Go fire pit ceremony. Dame Maggie Smith's iconic Downton Abbey dress could make a staggering amount at auction, it's been revealed. The Harry Potter actress died aged 89 in September last year, with tributes pouring in from fans and friends alike. She was remembered as 'incredibly kind", 'a fierce intellect", 'charming' and 'extremely funny' by her co-stars. One of Dame Maggie's later roles came in Downton Abbey, playing Violet Crawley in the British period drama between 2010 and 2015. She won three Primetime Emmy Awards for the character, as well as a Golden Globe and four Screen Actors Guild Awards, adding to her host of accolades over the decades. "This costume really needs no introduction," an expert began. "This is Dame Maggie Smith's, who played the Dowager Countess, Violet Crawley, it's beautifully put together this design." After gasping, Emma could be heard gushing over the "incredible" cane which accompanied the sage green gown. The expert went on: "The cane is a separate lot and I think this is one of the most important lots on sale because Violet Crawley, she uses that cane, it's such an extension of her character. The embellished dress would fetch between £1,000 and £1,500 at an auction, it was revealed, while the cane itself stood at between £500 and £800. Praising the "genius" costume designer, he pointed out the vintage bag and hat that were sourced second-hand to complete Dame Maggie's outfit, that would now go on to have a "third life". The final of three Downton Abbey films is set to be released in September, with Michelle Dockery recently revealing it will include a touching tribute to Dame Maggie. The Lady Mary Talbot actress shared that the film is 'beautiful', telling Collider: 'It's a beautiful film. For us, it was such a treat to be able to come back together again. It's a real tribute to Maggie Smith, the film.' He said: 'We finished a third — and I think probably final — Downton Abbey film this summer, which will come out next September and that is a wonderful sort of closing off of all the stories, so it's a proper film for the fans. 'It's very much set in the house and saying goodbye to all these characters and we obviously say goodbye to Dame Maggie, which was very poignant on screen and now in real life.
