Stree 2 - Rs 20.40 cr
Despite not going all out with the promotions, Saiyaara garnered unprecedented excitement among the cinegoers. Before the release of the movie, director Mohit Suri spoke about it and told Firstpost, 'I've been inside the studio for the last one month. I have no idea. And unlike the past when people travel from one studio to another, this is everything inhouse at YRF. So I haven't really gone out and met the world outside. Normally, when you are working on other films, you go out for the day; for sound, edit, and VFX. It was different different places.
And just hearing it now, it does feel it does feel very redeeming and validating because when I started off this film, I was quite discouraged by a lot of senior people saying that nobody would be interested in a young love story. Because at that time, larger-than-life films were being made and I just thought that my voice would be lost there when everyone was shouting. So I just went and tried to make a film which is very different from what others were doing. And to me, the fact that people are appreciating that the difference that it's standing out means a lot.'

Anurag Basu dismisses claims Aashiqui 3 starring Kartik Aaryan-Sreeleela being rescripted after Saiyaara's success: ‘The only similarity in our films is…'
Whenever a Bollywood movie becomes a success, it often instils a sense of dread among audiences, fearing it may trigger an unending trend of films that blindly replicate the original's story and style. This concern is not unsound, and the industry has witnessed it many times with filmmakers and production houses rushing to ride the gravy train by rehashing someone else's original work, thus reaping the rewards without sowing the seeds. With renowned director Mohit Suri's Saiyaara becoming a massive hit, all are now waiting to see how many 'new' musical romantic dramas will follow suit. Meanwhile, the project that has found itself in the spotlight is director Anurag Basu's Kartik Aaryan and Sreeleela-starrer, which is already under production as the third instalment in the Aashiqui franchise. Much like Saiyaara and even Mohit's Aashiqui 2 (2013), the male lead in the Kartik Aaryan film is also a rockstar musician, inevitably inviting comparisons among all the projects. Ever since the Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda-starrer became a hit, speculations have been rife that Anurag and team were busy reworking their script to eliminate similarities. However, the Metro… In Dino director has categorically denied the rumours, maintaining that the resemblances between the two projects were minimal. 'Mohit and I are very close. I'm happy for his film's success. The only similarity in our films is that the male lead is a rockstar, and the story is about his journey,' he told Mid-day. Saiyaara revolves around a young couple whose lives take a turn when the woman is diagnosed with early-onset Alzheimer's disease. Asserting that he knew the Mohit Suri film's storyline as the latter had narrated it to him, Anurag emphasised that they share a warm camaraderie. He added, 'In my film, the girl doesn't have dementia or any [other condition]. We are not rewriting or re-shooting. I knew beforehand that the girl had Alzheimer's disease in Saiyaara. So, why would I write the same [plot point] in mine?' Although Mohit originally pitched Saiyaara's story to be developed as Aashiqui 3, it eventually didn't go through. Thus, he went ahead and kickstarted it as a fresh project, while Aashiqui 2 producers Bhushan Kumar (T-Series) and Mukesh Bhatt (Vishesh Films) roped in Anurag Basu and Kartik Aaryan to float the third instalment in their musical romantic drama franchise. However, after the Bhushan-Mukesh split, a legal dispute arose over the use of Aashiqui in the film's title. After it took a legal route, the Delhi High Court ruled in Mukesh's favour, preventing the makers from naming the film Aashiqui 3.

Sonakshi Sinha's brother suggests Saiyaara is unoriginal after it destroys his movie at box office, says Anupam Kher's film was removed from theatres but his wasn't
Three Hindi films were released in theatres on July 18 – Mohit Suri's Saiyaara, Kush Sinha's Nikita Roy, and Anupam Kher's Tanvi the Great. While Saiyaara emerged as a massive blockbuster, the other two films have struggled at the box office. Starring newcomers Ahaan Panday and Aneet Padda, Saiyaara has made over Rs 250 crore at the box office, while both Nikita Roy and Tanvi the Great are hovering at around the Rs 2 crore mark. In an interview, Kush Sinha spoke about his film's box office failure, and blamed it on the Saiyaara wave. He also claimed that Tanvi the Great was removed from theatres, but his film, Nikita Roy, wasn't. In an interview with Dainik Bhaskar, he was asked about Nikita Roy's underperformance, and he said that his father, Shatrughan Sinha, told him not to lose hope. 'We tried to get more screens, but sometimes, some films are swept along by a wave. At the same time, whichever theatre chains we've spoke to, they've seen the merit in the film and they've held on to it. Three films were released on the same day, and while everybody knows about the film that performed so well, the other film lost theatres.' Also read – Anupam Kher still hasn't paid his actors and financers after Rs 50 crore Tanvi the Great underperforms with under Rs 2 crore amid Saiyaara wave Kush congratulated the team behind Saiyaara for their success, but didn't identify the film by name. 'Nobody anticipated this wave, and box office results aren't in our hands. I'm happy that a romantic film starring two newcomers has done so well. I'm happy for YRF, and I want to congratulate them,' he said, adding that the 'other stakeholders' in his film could've done things differently to anticipate Saiyaara and to promote Nikita Roy more forcefully. 'Our film has survived the storm and has entered week two with 40%-50% increase in theatres,' he said. Kush said that his family has appreciated Nikita Roy, and that he has received feedback from several others as well. 'The best thing is that it is an entirely original film, we haven't plagiarised content from anywhere,' he said. When it was pointed out to him that allegations of plagiarism have been made against the makers of Saiyaara, he said, 'There have been discussions, but that is for them to answer. It's up to them to clear their names. But I've always been clear that I want to tell original stories, and if I ever do a remake, it will be an official remake. Others might not share this point of view, and that's up to them.'
