Johnny Depp Makes Unexpected Appearance As Captain Jack Sparrow
brought joy, and a bit of pirate swagger, to children at Niño Jesús University Children's Hospital in Madrid on Monday, June 16, when he made a surprise visit dressed as his iconic "Pirates of the Caribbean" character, Captain Jack Sparrow. The 62-year-old actor, currently in Spain filming his upcoming movie "Day Drinker," slipped into full costume to meet with young patients in their hospital rooms. Photos from the visit show Johnny Depp in full pirate regalia, laughing with children and sharing sweet pinky touches in a heartwarming display that delighted fans and hospital staff alike. "From Osakidetza, and especially from all the staff at the Donostia University Hospital, we would like to express our infinite gratitude to Johnny Depp for his time, support, and energy, as well as to @sansebastianfes for facilitating this visit," the translation reads. This isn't the first time Depp has stepped back into Sparrow's boots for a cause. Just last year, in September 2024, the "Sweeney Todd" star visited Donostia University Hospital in San Sebastián, where he brought joy to children in the Pediatrics and Oncology ward while attending the San Sebastián Film Festival. Over the years, the Oscar-nominated actor has made similar surprise visits in cities across the globe, including Paris, London, Vancouver, Brisbane, and several U.S. cities. 'He took the time to really engage with them and make them smile and laugh,' Patti Smith, a hospital spokesperson, said to ABC News after a 2017 visit to the BC Children's Hospital in Vancouver. Plus, back in 2015, Johnny Depp and his "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" co-star Stephen Graham paid a memorable visit to Lady Cilento Children's Hospital in Brisbane, Australia. Fully decked out as their characters, Jack Sparrow and Scrum, the duo brought laughter and even a few gold coins to the young patients during the heartwarming surprise appearance. 'For me and my family, it was a fantastic time to meet up and speak with Johnny Depp and put a smile on everyone's faces, especially my daughter,' Kossy Halemai said to CBS News. 'She's recovering well, and to see her smiling. I was emotional and proud.' Nine years ago, during an appearance on "The Graham Norton Show," Depp opened up about why these visits hold such personal significance for him. 'I've spent time in Great Ormond Street [a London children's hospital] where I was the parent when my daughter was ill,' he shared, referencing his daughter 's battle with an E. Coli infection in 2007 that ultimately resulted in kidney failure. 'I've known darkness in my life, but that was the darkest period ever when I was doing Sweeney.' Depp added, 'I'd always kind of done these visits, but after that, the visits became more and more important because the kids' bliss, you know, they're so strong, they're so courageous, but the parents are the ones who are slowly dying. And to be able to bring a smile or a giggle to these people means everything in the world to me.' Depp originally brought Jack Sparrow to life in 2003's "Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl," starring alongside and . He would go on to portray the eccentric pirate in four additional films: "Dead Man's Chest" (2006), "At World's End" (2007), "On Stranger Tides" (2011), and "Dead Men Tell No Tales" (2017). During his highly publicized 2022 legal battle with ex-wife , Depp said he had no intention of returning to "Pirates," even quipping that he wouldn't do it 'for $300 million and a million alpacas,' citing feelings of betrayal after Disney cut ties with him amid abuse allegations. Despite the drama, fans and colleagues continue to campaign for his return. In May 2024, franchise producer Jerry Bruckheimer told Entertainment Weekly, 'If it was up to me, [Johnny] would be in it.' He added, 'He created Captain Jack. That was not on the page… That was his interpretation.' While Disney has not officially confirmed Depp's return to the franchise, a July 2023 report claimed there might still be a path back for the actor. Regardless of what the future holds for Jack Sparrow on the big screen, Depp's heartwarming hospital visits prove that his most enduring legacy may lie far beyond the high seas.

'28 Years Later' Will Have a Sequel. Danny Boyle and Alex Garland Want a Full Trilogy, Too.
"Hearst Magazines and Yahoo may earn commission or revenue on some items through these links." The following story contains spoilers for IT'S A GOOD time to be a fan of horror movies, because one of the best director/writer collaborations of the last 25 years just gave us a stone cold banger. More than two decades after director Danny Boyle and writer Alex Garland joined forces to give us the low-fi survival horror epic 28 Days Later, they've returned for 28 Years Later, and it rocks. (28 Weeks Later came out in 2007 and is pretty solid, but neither Boyle nor Garland were involved on a writing or directing level.) The film follows a young boy named Spike (Alfie Williams) who was born into a world where his home in the U.K. has always been a quarantined post-apocalyptic hellscape. We see him spend time with both his flawed father, Jamie (Aaron Taylor-Johnson) and his loving-but-ailing mother, Isla (Jodie Comer), making for two halves of a movie that comes together in a surprising but fantastic whole. A couple other ingredients are at play as well, including a mad doctor with a heart of gold played by Ralph Fiennes. It's a lot of movie, and some watching may be surprised when things seem like they're wrapping up, and then we meet a platinum-haired, chain-wearing cult leader played by Sinners villain Jack O'Connell. What is happening here in the last 90 seconds of the movie? Well, what's happening is that 28 Years Later isn't just one single new movie, but the start of a new, ambitious project from Boyle and Garland that is going to be at least two movies, and possibly even more. As you may have guessed from the ending, yes, there will be a sequel to 28 Years Later. Tentatively called 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple (though we haven't gotten official word from Sony Pictures on that just yet), the movie was filmed back-to-back with the first 28 Years Later, and is expected to release in January. The Bone Temple (if that title doesn't change) will continue the events of 28 Years Later. One major change, though—28 Years Later: The Bone Temple will be directed by Nia DaCosta (Candyman, The Marvels) and not Danny Boyle. Alex Garland once is writing the script. The cast will include just about everyone you would expect: Alfie Williams, Aaron Taylor-Johnson, and Jack O'Connell will all reprise their roles. Emma Laird (Mayor of Kingstown) will also appear as a member of Jimmy's cult; She was in 28 Years Later, but you may not have noticed. We don't know if Ralph Fiennes will return as Dr. Kelson, but that would be something nice to wish for, wouldn't it? But it would also be very poetic if we never saw him again. One major addition to the 28 Years Later: The Bone Temple cast: Cillian Murphy. The Oscar-winning Oppenheimer star will reprise his role as Jim from 28 Days Later in the sequel. "He has a significant role to play in the second film," Boyle said in a recent interview. "And a massive role to play in the third film. And we're looking to finance the third film." That's right—there are plans not only for one sequel to 28 Years Later, but a second, making this entire endeavor a super ambitious, genre-bending horror-thriller trilogy. The third film, however, will likely depend on the success of the first. "We're still trying to get the money for the third," Boyle told The Hollywood Reporter in an interview, before clarifying his intent to direct the third film himself. "Absolutely. That's the idea. That's the plan. Plans. Ha! What do you do to make God laugh? Tell him your plans. But, but yes, that's the plan." Not super convincing! But if 28 Years Later is a success—and we hope it is—it sounds like that's the next step. It helps, though, that Boyle and Garland can promise a massive star for the third film. "[Nia DaCosta gets a bit of Cillian at the end [of the second film]," Boyle said in an interview with Business Insider. "All I can say is you have to wait for Cillian, but hopefully he will help us get the third film financed." 'If we get the money, Cillian will obviously be a dominant factor in the third part of the film," Boyle said in another interview. We don't want to do this too often, because it kind of seems like bad form, but let's pray to the box office gods for 28 Years Later to be a success. Because this is one trilogy we really need to see all the way through. Vivienne Westwood Spring 2026 Menswear Collection
Pirate, Buffalo Girls, Savages, Punkature: right from the start Vivienne Westwood's collections plundered freely from the past and mixed womenswear with men's to create a fashion freezone in which the rules of convention were gleefully disregarded. That punk impulse to disrupt still remains at the core of the house's heritage following her passing nearly three years ago. This morning Westwood's widower and house co-pilot for over three decades, Andreas Kronthaler, reestablished the brand's presence on the Milan menswear schedule for the first time since June 2016. More dynamic mise-en-scene than show, it saw an overwhelmingly male cast take their passeggiata through a San Babila cafe and then out into a street side marble-floored arcade. While the collection we were here to see was menswear, including beautifully loose and louche tailoring, there was an interjection of pieces plundered from across the house's current womenswear collections. 'I can't avoid it,' said Kronthaler. 'I don't think there should be strict separations of anything; I don't think it ever works. And there is always in a man a little bit of woman: sometimes quite a lot.' Quite-a-lot looks included the faux-fur leopard coat and python print court shoes and handbag: racy Milan nonna meets Gentlemen Prefer Blondes. A statuesquely-draped floral photo print dress was teamed with roman sandals and a cursive metal necklace that spelt out a curse word. There was a strong rose-embroidered tabard with a mid-calf red satin boot. A rugby shirt was extended to ankle length: a stretch knit patterned bodysuit with a navel-gazing aperture was equal-opportunities provocative. The tailoring took a satirical approach to peacock dressing, hoiking pants as high as they would rise, peaking lapels to the apex of shoulder lines. Shirting and dress pants in crisp cottons were cut to undulate and enhanced with fulsome pocketing. A red T-shirt printed with a portrait of Garibaldi—whose Redshirts drove the uprising that unified Italy—cutely unified a masculine shawl collar tailored menswear jacket and some feminine skirt-fronted shorts in oversized gold pinstripe. Humorous and anti-consumerist, this return to Milan prefigured a more conventional runway approach next January. When it was put to Kronthaler that the house is now a heritage brand whose source code is subversion, he said: 'There are so many things here, really, like no other brand. Because of [Westwood's] long work and going through so many facets and changes, there are four or five different periods that belong to this house somehow. But at the same time we are not nostalgic.' As he spoke, the bells of San Babila church across the road sounded notice of midday. Whatever Kronthaler's suspicion of nostalgia, it was a thrill to see the same platforms that so famously upended Naomi Campbell on the runway make fall-free cameos in two looks towards the end of this show. Vivienne Westwood was close to inarguably the most influential designer of her time: her name should continue to resound as loudly as San Babila's bells.
