Tabung Haji denies RM20mil rebranding claim, clarifies actual cost
In a statement, TH said the actual budget allocation for the brand rejuvenation process is RM2mil per year over three years, not RM20mil.
'The speculation of RM20mil expenditure for the new rebranding process is untrue and constitutes slander,' it stressed.
The pilgrimage fund explained that efforts to refresh its brand are necessary despite its 60-year history.
'The allegation that TH does not need to make efforts to strengthen its brand, which is already well known, is inaccurate,' it said, adding that brand rejuvenation has been undertaken several times in the past.
TH said the exercise involves market surveys and engagement with depositors, noting that demographic changes among Malaysian Muslims have had a 'very significant impact'.
Currently, TH has 9.6 million depositors, equivalent to only half of the country's Muslim population.
'More than 53% of our depositors have savings of less than RM1,300, which is far from sufficient for preparing to perform the hajj,' it said.
The board of directors has also decided to review strategies to remain competitive and attract younger depositors.
The TH media statement is probably related to the speech by the PAS MP for Pengkalan Chepa, Datuk Dr Ahmad Marzuk Shaary who alleged that TH is proceeding with a rebranding at the cost of RM20mil.
In his speech during the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan, the MP questioned the need for such large expenditure when TH already has a strong and internationally recognised brand.
He highlighted that the funds come from Muslim depositors, including villagers, FELDA settlers, fishermen, and youths saving for hajj, and argued that the money would be better used to improve services or subsidise B40 pilgrims.
He raised concerns that the appointed firms (5Grams Communications, Green Zebra, Sentry PR) are not fully Muslim- or bumiputra-owned, with some even led by non-Muslims, which he said disregards the sensitivities and aspirations of TH depositors.
He stressed that TH is not just a financial institution but a symbol of Muslim dignity and a trust that safeguards the dreams of Muslims to perform hajj.
He demanded the government explain who approved the appointments, what procurement process was followed, and what justification exists for the expenditure.
Finally, he called for assurances that depositors' funds will continue to be managed with integrity and trust. — Aug 16, 2025

KUALA LUMPUR: The Federal Land Development Authority is enhancing its employment scheme with a RM1,700 minimum wage and a motorbike allowance, says Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. The Deputy Prime Minister said Felda currently employs 12,587 foreign workers on its estates as of July, with recruitment managed through Felda Plantation Management Sdn Bhd. 'To overcome the shortage of workers, Felda is also providing housing, Employees Provident Fund and Social Security Organisation contributions, as well as insurance coverage,' he said. Ahmad Zahid said this while winding up debates on the 13th Malaysia Plan in the Dewan Rakyat on Monday (August 18). He said Felda was approved to recruit 3,000 foreign workers on July 27, 2024, and the quota was fully filled by March this year. Ahmad Zahid said the agency has streamlined the Small-Scale Contracting initiative to allow Felda settlers to participate as small contractors. He said larger agriculture tenders are being offered to qualified Felda-owned companies, adding that deductions from produce are used to cover estate operating costs, settlers' loans, and the Replanting Contribution Fund, which carries a guarantee. 'The Estate Insurance Collection was discontinued in June 2022, with estate recovery now managed at the scheme level,' said Dr Ahmad Zahid. 'The Replanting Fund remains, with deductions of RM12 per acre per month, though it is being reviewed to reflect current costs,' he added. Dr Ahmad Zahid then said that Felda also enforces a minimum income policy, where any costs or deductions that cannot be collected will be deferred and recovered the following month.

Outburst in front of students: Pendang MP suspended 10 days for Dewan Rakyat chaos last Wednesday
KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 18 — Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul today ordered PAS' Pendang MP Datuk Awang Hashim to be suspended from the House for 10 days. Johari said the decision was made after he witnessed Awang's conduct while presiding over a sitting last Wednesday. 'Why did I take action against Pendang? Firstly, at that time I was the one presiding, and I saw what happened. Secondly, what really upset me was that the gallery was full of schoolchildren — that took me aback,' he said. 'We often talk about the behaviour of our young children in school, about how they should show courtesy. But here we are, in front of those very children, displaying all sorts of behaviour. It doesn't look good. 'This is my decision, in accordance with Standing Order 44(2). I hereby order the Member for Pendang to leave the House for 10 days starting today,' he added. Standing Order 44(2) states that the Chair shall order any member whose conduct is disorderly, in contempt of the House, or who disregards the authority of the Chair to withdraw from the chamber. The withdrawal period shall not exceed 10 days, and the member must leave immediately. Last Wednesday, during the debate on the 13th Malaysia Plan, a commotion broke out when Marang MP Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang ended his speech with a poem urging Pakatan Harapan (PH) leaders, particularly from DAP, to resign from the government. The disruption lasted about seven minutes and involved, among others, opposition MPs Datuk Seri Shahidan Kassim (Arau), Mohd Syahir Che Sulaiman (Bachok), Datuk Che Mohamad Zulkifly Jusoh (Besut) as well as PH MPs RSN Rayer (Jelutong) and Chong Zhemin (Kampar).
