The ongoing legal battle between Indian IT giant
Infosys
Ltd and US-based
Cognizant
Technology Solutions has intensified, with Infosys now accusing two senior Cognizant executives of orchestrating a deliberate effort to poach key personnel critical to its healthcare platform, Helix, according to a report by Mint.
Infosys has named Cognizant's Chief People Officer
Kathryn Diaz
and Surya Gummadi, president of Cognizant's Americas division, as being allegedly involved in targeting and hiring key Infosys executives, hampering the development of Helix, a platform positioned as a rival to Cognizant's
TriZetto
. The accusations follow earlier claims against Cognizant CEO
Ravi Kumar S
, a former Infosys president, whom Infosys accused in a January 9 court filing of stalling Helix's rollout while negotiating his move to Cognizant in 2022.
The report said that in a June 13 joint filing to a Dallas court, Infosys alleged that Kumar, after becoming Cognizant's CEO in January 2023, appointed Diaz as Chief People Officer. During her tenure, Cognizant allegedly targeted Infosys' Helix platform by hiring Shveta Arora, now Cognizant's consulting head, between October and December 2023, and Ravi Kuchibhotla, currently Cognizant's chief strategy officer, in August 2024. Both executives previously worked on Helix at Infosys.

'Cognizant targeted our key executives involved in the Helix platform, which has significantly disrupted its development,' Infosys stated in its filing, as cited by the report. The company further claimed that both Diaz and Gummadi possess documents relevant to the case, reinforcing allegations of targeted interference.
Cognizant swiftly rejected the accusations, reportedly saying that 'Infosys' continued attempts to mislead do not change the fact that it has been caught red-handed stealing Cognizant's intellectual property.' The company also clarified that Diaz was appointed well after Kumar joined Cognizant, dismissing the poaching claims.
The dispute traces back to August 2024, when Cognizant accused Infosys of misappropriating trade secrets related to its healthcare software. Infosys denied the allegations and filed counterclaims, arguing Cognizant failed to specify the stolen information. The escalating feud underscores tensions between the two IT giants as they compete in the lucrative healthcare technology market.

‘Promise kept': Donald Trump signs executive order ending US sanctions on Syria; Assad still blacklisted
President Donald Trump on Monday signed an executive order officially ending US sanctions on Syria, fulfilling a prior commitment to end the sanctions program. The executive order follows President Trump's announcement in May, during his visit to the Middle East, that the US would lift all sanctions on Syria. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now During the trip, Trump held talks with Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa, who had earlier formed a transitional government in March after the fall of the Assad regime, which was toppled by opposition forces. The White House clarified that sanctions would still apply to former president Bashar al-Assad. "The order will remove sanctions on Syria while maintaining sanctions on the former president, Assad, his associates, human rights abusers, drug traffickers, persons linked to chemical weapons activities, ISIS and their affiliates, and Iranian proxies," White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt said earlier in the day during daily briefing. The Al-Sharaa government had been urging the Trump administration for months to ease sanctions, with preliminary efforts already underway even before the president's announcement in May. However, certain sanctions, particularly those imposed when Syria was labeled a state sponsor of terrorism in 1979, would still require formal repeal by Congress. In May, the US took a major step toward ending decades of sanctions on Syria by granting broad exemptions, the first move toward fulfilling President Trump's promise to lift the long-standing penalties on the war-torn nation. 'This is another promise made and promise kept,' Leavitt said Monday. The treasury department followed up last month by easing restrictions on Syrian banks, airlines, and President Al-Sharaa, and issuing guidance for approved transactions, including those related to infrastructure development. Treasury secretary Scott Bessent stated that the changes were intended to promote investment and economic recovery in Syria. Tired of too many ads? go ad free now The European Union has also lifted nearly all remaining sanctions on Syria. Turkey and Saudi Arabia, both key US allies in the region, have expressed support for restoring ties with Syria's new government. Both nations have provided aid, with Saudi Arabia even offering to help settle some of Syria's debts, actions that may potentially conflict with existing sanctions. The Saudis view this as a chance to shift Syria's allegiance toward their side, following years of the country's alignment with Iran under the Assad regime. In 2003, then-President George W Bush signed the Syria accountability act, targeting Syria for its support of US-designated terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, its military occupation of Lebanon, suspected development of weapons of mass destruction, involvement in oil smuggling, and support for armed groups in Iraq following the US-led invasion that same year.

WaveX invites startups to develop AI-powered real-time multilingual translation solution
The Union Information and Broadcasting Ministry has launched the WAVEX Startup Challenge 2025, inviting startups across the country to participate in a national hackathon to develop an AI-powered multilingual translation solution to be named 'BhashaSetu'. 'The challenge aims to encourage the development of innovative artificial intelligence tools capable of real-time translation, transliteration, and voice localisation across at least 12 major Indian languages. The initiative seeks to foster inclusive, accessible, and emotion-aware communication technologies,' said the Ministry on Monday. The challenge has no minimum eligibility criteria, allowing startups at any stage of development to apply. 'Startups are encouraged to build scalable and cost-effective solutions using open-source or low-cost AI models. However, proprietary solutions may also be proposed, provided they remain affordable and practical for wide-scale deployment,' it said. The winner will be provided incubation support under the WaveX Accelerator, including mentorship, workspace, and development assistance until the final product is completed and deployed. The registrations for the challenge will be open from June 30 to July 22.
