Andy Murray appears in cheeky advert for Walker's shortbread after taking 'new job'

The sporting superstar, from Dunblane, Perthshire, said it was a 'real honour' to pair with the brand after celebrating his Wimbledon win with the famous biscuits. Tennis icon Andy Murray has poked fun at his fame as he is announced as the new face of Walker's shortbread. The sporting superstar, from Dunblane, Perthshire, said it was a 'real honour' to pair with the brand - which shares a pride in its Scottish roots - and revealed he even celebrated his Wimbledon win with the famous biscuits. ‌ In a new advert announcing the partnership, the 38-year-old Olympic gold medalist and three-time Grand Slam winner is seen taking a bite of a piece of shortbread as he's compared to the 'Scottish institution'. ‌ Murray, who retired from tennis last year, becomes the family-owned brand's first ever ambassador in its 127-year history. He said: 'I've always been proudly Scottish, and partnering with Walker's, a brand that has been representing Scotland around the world for well over a century, just felt right. 'I come from a small tight-knit community and when I look back at where I have come from, I am proud of what I've achieved, which is something I share with Walker's. 'I've been eating shortbread since I was a kid - my gran would make it all the time for us. We even celebrated my Wimbledon win with shortbread. 'Shortbread is one of my simple pleasures. No matter where I am in the world, a piece of Walker's Shortbread always transports me back home.' ‌ Murray, who recently split from Novak Djokovic's coaching group, is famous for his dry sense of humour. Great with a cuppa.' ‌ Sir Andy won a record five Queen's singles titles between 2009 and 2016. And in 2019, five months after career-saving hip resurfacing surgery, he lifted the doubles titles with Feliciano Lopez. ‌ He laid down his racquet following the Paris 2024 Olympics and had a farewell celebration on Wimbledon's Centre Court last summer Debuting the new star of their advert, Walkers said: 'From a small town in Scotland to the world stage, Andy's journey mirrors our own. A wee bit of Scotland that's come a long way.' Nicky Walker, Managing Director, Walker's Shortbread: 'We are incredibly excited to welcome Andy Murray as our very first brand ambassador. We've always admired Andy's achievements, his dedication and his cautious charisma as well as his very obvious close relationship with his own family. 'These are qualities that resonate deeply with our own values at Walker's Shortbread. 'We are extremely honoured that Andy and his team have acknowledged Walker's as a suitable partner and we are looking forward to this exciting new venture as we continue to promote Scotland at its finest.'

And Hollywood star Julia Roberts made an appearance at Old Trafford, chatting to former Manchester United star Wayne Rooney at the annual fundraising match, which sees an England team take on Soccer Aid World XI FC to raise money for aid organisation Unicef. Fury, who joined the charity football match as a manager for England, gave an impassioned speech in the locker rooms prior to the game starting. He said: 'Let them know how good we are. We are England. We are f****** Spartans. We are Spartans.' Presenters Alex Scott and Dermot O'Leary apologised afterwards, with Scott saying: 'What can I say about Tyson Fury? We do apologise for the swearing, but it is Tyson Fury, we don't know what's going to happen.' O'Leary added: 'We do profusely apologise.' Pretty Woman-star Roberts, who has described herself as a 'true fan' of Manchester United and was in attendance as a supporter for the charity match, was seen taking photographs at the club's home stadium, Old Trafford, smiling next to the former England striker Wayne Rooney, who, minutes into the game, scored the first goal for England. Among the England team line-up alongside Rooney were former One Direction singer Louis Tomlinson and Olympic gold-medallist Sir Mo Farah. Last of Us star Bella Ramsey also joined this year's England team along with comedian Paddy McGuinness, former Manchester United player Gary Neville and singer Tom Grennan. Last year, the match ended with a 6-3 win for England, with the Three Lions taking home the win for the first time in six years. Soccer Aid was co-founded in 2006 by Robbie Williams to raise money for the children's aid organisation Unicef. Since the fundraising match was first founded nearly two decades ago, it has raised more than £106 million.
