CHICAGO — The Chicago White Sox activated Austin Slater from the 10-day injured list on Monday after the outfielder made a speedy recovery from a knee injury.
Slater, 32, started in left field for Chicago's 5-1 loss to Seattle in the opener of a three-game series. He went 0 for 2 with two strikeouts, coming up empty when he batted with a runner on third and one out in the second inning.

(AP) — New York Giants wide receiver Malik Nabers should be available to practice for the start of training camp next month after sitting out during the spring with a toe issue. Coach Brian Daboll said Wednesday that Nabers was 'doing good' and he had no concerns that the injury would affect his availability. Advertisement 'Every person's at a different part in, call it rehab if you will or prehab,' Daboll said, 'and we just did what we thought was best for Malik to try to get him as healthy as we can.' Daboll said last month during organized team activities that the Giants were simply being cautious with Nabers, who has had an issue with the toe since his college days at LSU. Daboll also said then that Nabers didn't need any procedures on his toe during the offseason. Nabers didn't practice in the sessions open to reporters during OTAs and minicamp, but participated in some of the team's walkthrough periods. 'He's had some issues, like I said, in the past, in college with it,' Daboll said. 'And again, that was the plan that we came up with for him and for our football team.' Advertisement Nabers, the sixth overall pick in the draft last year, caught an NFL rookie-record 109 passes last season while setting the franchise mark for most receptions in a season. Nabers also tied former Giants star Odell Beckham Jr. for the NFL record for fewest games needed for 100 career catches, reaching the milestone in just 14 games. Left tackle Andrew Thomas also didn't practice throughout the spring while he works his way back from surgery to repair a Lisfranc injury to his right foot that sidelined him the final 11 games. Three-time Pro Bowl defensive tackle Dexter Lawrence didn't practice in team drills, but participated in individual drills during OTAs and minicamp. Third-round defensive tackle Darius Alexander and fourth-round running back Cam Skattebo also didn't practice fully in minicamp because of undisclosed injuries. 'They're progressing,' Daboll said. Dutch midfielder Tijjani Reijnders and France attacking midfielder Rayan Cherki both started the game on a hot afternoon at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia after joining in the run-up to the tournament from AC Milan and Lyon respectively. The pace, in the final third, with the ball, when he will get a little bit more rhythm, he will be top," Guardiola said of Reijnders, 26, who played the whole game in sapping conditions. Brought in to help fill the huge void left by Kevin De Bruyne's departure, the 21-year-old Cherki lasted an hour before being substituted as City eased to victory in the Group G contest thanks to first-half goals by Phil Foden and Jeremy Doku. "There is no doubt about that but at the same time the club decided on Rayan because he has incredible skills close to the box, incredible vision, many things. New signing Rayan Ait-Nouri was an unused substitute, but Guardiola suggested that he will change almost his entire team for the next game, against Al Ain in Atlanta on Sunday. Vitor Reis played a really good game, Nathan Ake was three, four or five months without playing, so many players we needed to give them minutes," Guardiola said. "The next game 10 new players (are) going to be there and we will try to win the next one." City will be without Rico Lewis due to suspension for the clash with Al Ain after he was sent off late on against Wydad. If that was a source of frustration for the coach, Foden's performance was encouraging as the England star scored the first goal and made the second.
