Movie Tea: Andrew Garfield Will Return As Spider-Man Only If…; 'Ready Or Not' Sequel Begins Production

Hype Malaysia22-04-2025
Whenever a sequel rears its head, fans initially wonder what the plot will be about, when it will be released, and why the OG movie warrants a sequel in the first place. But the biggest question is: will we see some, if not all, of the original cast?
With the biggest cinematic franchises making their new move, fans are dying to know if the sequels will feature familiar faces or new ones entirely. We've got the answers right here.
'Ready Or Not: Here I Come' Cast Revealed
If you've been paying attention to horror films of late, you'd know how much the genre has transformed and evolved beyond the standard torture porn and slasher movies that dominated the 80s all the way to the 2010s. Moviegoers who are sick of the status quo have broken away from the tried and tested method, and we're better off for it. If it wasn't for that move, we might never have gotten 'Ready or Not', a hysterical horror comedy that captivated genre veterans and newbies alike – so it's a blessing that it's finally receiving its much-deserved sequel.
That's right, 'Ready or Not: Here I Come' has now entered its production/filming stage in Toronto, Canada. Not only that, it has been confirmed by Deadline that the original star, Samara Weaving, will reprise her role as Grace, but that she'll also be joined by some Hollywood heavy hitters.
In an interview when discussing the sequel, filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (better known as Radio Silence) said, 'We're thrilled to be returning to the world of Ready or Not with Samara, Brett, Avery and Andrew and so excited to work with this immensely-talented cast and the incredible artists across every department joining the Ready or Not family.'
Though it has not been confirmed, the filmmakers are likely talking about members of the first film's production team: cinematographer Brett Jutkiewicz, costume designer Avery Plewes, and likely the only actor to return besides Samara, Andrew Anthony. We stress, though, that these names are not official and were simply mentioned by the filmmakers.
What is confirmed is the last of the actors who will be joining this emerging cult classic horror film. We have the previously-announced Kathryn Newton and then new faces such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and even David Cronenberg. This is a decorated cast if we've ever seen one, but their respective roles in the film are still kept under wraps.
Matthew Greenfield, President of Searchlight Pictures, stated that 'We're beyond excited to make another film with the phenomenal Radio Silence. With Ready or Not: Here I Come, we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that's every bit as twisted and fun as the first one. This is for those who've been waiting and those who didn't see it coming.'
'Ready or Not' is a cinematic darling, as the film managed to earn over US$57 million off its US$6 million production cost. The only thing that's shocking about this film is the fact that it didn't receive a sequel sooner, especially considering the numbers. Regardless, we can rest assured that we will be receiving the same brand of comedy and continuity, as the script is penned by the original writers, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Unfortunately, we have to wait a little longer, as none of the crew or studio higher-ups disclosed a speculative or targeted release date.
Andrew Garfield Will Return As The Web-Head Under One Condition
It's no surprise that, though his iteration of Spider-Man didn't stick as well as his counterparts', Andrew Garfield is still a loved and cherished actor who has donned the iconic red and blue suit. Ever since his reprisal of the role in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' fans have been begging to see more of Garfield in future MCU installments, something that he isn't against – but under a specific condition.
While on a panel at Abu Dhabi Comic Con, the 'Tick, Tick… Boom!' star was asked if he would return as Peter Parker again, to which he answered that he doesn't know, but is more than willing to return to the MCU with the aforementioned condition.
The actor went on to say that 'I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird. I think I would like to do something very strange; I would want to do something very unique and offbeat and surprising.' He especially emphasised that he'd like some creative freedom to be his own version of the web-slinger.
And, frankly speaking, it's not an odd request to make. If you'd remember, Willem Dafoe made a similar request that if he were to return to 'No Way Home,' he'd be doing his own stunts for a major part of, if not the entire, film. Furthermore, the fact that we're well in the Multiverse Saga of the MCU with rumours that Garfield and Tobey Maguire will reprise their roles in time for 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' running amok, it's only natural for the actor to request that he differentiate himself from other Wall-Crawlers. However, until then, there's no room for any more Spider-Mans. Yet, we cannot deny the story potential that Garfield is throwing to the MCU staff and writers. Where that will lead us is anyone's guess, but we're absolutely stoked for it all the same.

Tencent's 'Valorant' tops iPhone chart with US$1mil debut

Co-developed by Tencent's Riot Games and Lightspeed Studios, Valorant Mobile is available only in China so far, with no clear launch date for global markets. — Riot Games Tencent Holdings Ltd's Valorant made a strong debut on mobile this week, earning US$1mil (RM4.22mil) in gross player spending on iPhones on its first day out in China. The colourful shooting game, first released on PC in 2020, is one of Tencent's big mobile launches this year, closely watched as an indicator of the company's strategy to sustain what it calls evergreen franchises. It had roughly 170,000 downloads on day one, about as many as Tencent's DnF Mobile a year earlier, and remains No.1 in downloads among all iPhone apps, according to Appfigures data. Co-developed by Tencent's Riot Games and Lightspeed Studios, Valorant Mobile is available only in China so far, with no clear launch date for global markets. The game is free to play, with in-app purchases and character cosmetics making up the revenue. That's the same monetisation method as DnF Mobile , though that game earned roughly five times as much on its release, whereas Valorant is currently sixth on the charts for highest-earning games, Appfigures said. "It's within expectations. Tencent is probably playing the long game and not rushing to monetise up front,' said Zeng Xiaofeng, vice president at market researcher Niko Partners. Tencent is a global leader in shooting games, having previously adapted Call Of Duty to smartphones. Its executives have said they aim to offer a diverse range of options to gamers, though it remains an open question whether these games will cannibalise each other. On mobile alone, Tencent runs shooting franchises including PUBG Mobile , CrossFire , and its in-house Delta Force and Arena Breakout . The company said last week that Valorant Mobile attracted more than 70 million pre-registrations across all platforms. Appfigures does not track spending and downloads on Android, which has several app stores in China. The original Valorant PC game is known for its unforgiving speed, where players can be eliminated very quickly. It remains to be seen whether such gameplay will be as much of a hit on smartphones, where touch controls make precision more difficult. Last year, one of Tencent's studios tested Ace Force 2 , a mobile game with similar gameplay to Valorant , but the title was shut down soon after launch. – Bloomberg
