Sequel to horror hit ‘Ready or Not' shoots at Columbia College in Dundas

The latest horror movie to film in Hamilton involves a bride who survived a fight with her in-laws. Better call that a bloodbath. The sequel to 'Ready or Not' filmed scenes last week inside the Columbia College Campus on Northcliffe Avenue in Dundas. The sequel is titled 'Ready or Not: Here I Come.' 'Ready or Not' came out in 2019 and was a sleeper hit. It was shot in Toronto and Oshawa and cost producers Radio Silence and Searchlight Pictures $6 million to make. It collected more than $57 million at the box office across the globe. So you gotta believe there would be talk about a sequel. It got rolling in 2021 during the pandemic and it was confirmed in October of last year that cameras would roll again, with Samara Weaving ('Babylon' and the remake of 'Scream') returning as Grace. Kathryn Newton from 2024's horror flick 'Abigail' will co-star. Last week, it was announced the cast will also include Sarah Michelle Gellar ('Buffy the Vampire Slayer'), Elijah Wood (Lord of the Rings trilogy), Shawn Hatosy (HBO's 'The Pitt), Nestor Carbonell (FX's 'Shogun'), Kevin Durand ('Abigail') and Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg. Canadian filmmaker David Cronenberg appears in 'Ready or Not: Here I Come.' In the first flick, Grace marries Alex Le Domas (Mark O'Brien), a member of an eccentric and wealthy family that has a family games company. On the night of her wedding, she finds out she has to play a game of hide-and-seek against her in-laws, which includes father-in-law Tony (Henry Czerny), mother-in-law Becky (Andie MacDowell) and brother-in-law Daniel (Adam Brody). She soon learns it is a fight for her life against a family that believes it has to play this blood sport because it is cursed and will all die if they do not. The tagline was 'Stay Hidden. Stay Quiet. Stay Alive.' There is plenty of dark humour. When a cop asks Grace what happened to her, she simply replies, 'in-laws.' 'With 'Ready or Not: Here I Come,' we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that's every bit as twisted and fun as the first one,' Searchlight president Matthew Greenfield said in a statement. 'This is for those who've been waiting, and those who didn't see it coming.' The horror movie sequel 'Ready or Not: Here I Come' shot inside the Dundas campus of Columbia College last week. The movie stars Samara Weaving, Kathryn Newton, Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood and filmmaker David Cronenberg. A number of horror films have shot in Hamilton the last few years. Since January, there have been zombies in 'This is Not a Test,' a cursed wedding in 'Something Very Bad is Going to Happen' and ghosts in 'My Haunted Hometown.' 'Ready or Not: Here I Come' is expected to return to Hamilton before it wraps up filming this month. Three local actors have received web series nominations from the Canadian Screen Awards. Hamilton actor Ann Pirvu has been nominated for Best Lead Performance for her role in 'Poly is the New Monogamy.' It plays on Hollywood Suite. Scott Farley, who is from St. George in Brant County, has also been nominated for Best Lead Performance in 'Stories from My Gay Grandparents.' It runs on YouTube. Darren Stewart, who plays drag queen Ruby La Rue, was nominated for Best Host, Web Series, for 'Ruby Tries Everything.' The show ran on Cable 14. In other CSA nominations, North End resident Jayne Eastwood has been nominated as Best Guest Performer, drama, for her appearance in CTV's 'Sullivan's Crossing.' Hamilton native Patrick McKenna has been nominated for Best Supporting Actor, Comedy, for his role in '1 Man's Treasure.' He also received a Best Guest, Comedy, for his appearance in the Crave sitcom 'The Trades.' The second film being made in Hamilton by Michigan-based Branch Out Films rolled cameras this month. 'Son of a Preacher Man' shot at Pier 4 Park, the former Gallery on the Bay and the Really Living Centre on Upper James Street. The company in March shot 'The Holy Hustle' for BET. Its partner is Toronto-based Spaceman Entertainment.

‘I Know What You Did Last Summer' Director ‘Tried Relentlessly' to Convince Sarah Michelle Gellar to Return for Sequel Despite Her Character's Death: I Had to ‘Pitch Some Crazy S—'

Despite her best efforts, writer-director Jennifer Kaytin Robinson couldn't bring Sarah Michelle Gellar's Helen Shivers back to life for the 'I Know What You Did Last Summer' reboot. In a recent conversation with Entertainment Weekly, Robinson said she 'tried relentlessly' to fit Gellar into the new 'I Know What You Did Last Summer.' Her efforts were for naught, however, because Robinson could not maneuver around the fact that Helen Shivers 'is dead.' I harassed her! But she is dead,' Robinson said. 'I tried to pitch some crazy shit too. I was like, 'What if it's like you weren't dead and you're actually alive, but in hiding?' And Sarah's like, 'I was on ice. I was the most dead a person could be. You can see my frozen body.' I was like, 'Yeah, but what if?' And she said, 'I am dead. I am Sarah Dead Gellar.'' While Gellar will be absent, original stars Jennifer Love Hewitt and Freddie Prinze Jr. will return for the horror sequel. The film also stars newcomers Madelyn Cline, Chase Sui Wonders, Lola Tung, Nicholas Alexander Chavez, Austin Nichols, Sarah Pidgeon, Tyriq Withers, Jonah Hauer-King, Billy Campbell and Gabbriette. After the new 'IKWYDLS' film was announced, Gellar confirmed with People that she would not be starring, reassuring that her character is unequivocally 'dead.' 'My best friend [Robinson] is directing it, so we joke that I have an unofficial job, which is I am continuity,' Gellar said. 'So I'm always the one telling her, 'Well, that would happen, or that wouldn't happen with those characters,' so I do have kind of an unofficial job title.' Horror fans bowled over by 'fever dream' cast for eagerly anticipated sequel

Horror fans have been sharing their glee over the stacked cast that's been revealed for an exciting sequel in the works. Ready or Not was a popular 2019 film in the genre, which nabbed an impressive 89% rating on review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes from critics. Now its star Samara Weaving has been confirmed to be returning alongside newcomers to the franchise Elijah Wood, Sarah Michelle Gellar and David Cronenberg – yes, the acclaimed body horror master-director himself. They join previously announced Marvel star Kathryn Newton, as well as Shawn Hatosy, The Dark Knight actor Néstor Carbonell and Kevin Durand. The follow-up film's official title has also been confirmed as Ready or Not: Here I Come, which has tickled fans with its playful perfection too. Wood, known best for his leading role in The Lord of the Rings trilogy, has also appeared in multiple horror flicks, including The Monkey for Oz Perkins most recently, as well as slasher Maniac and Colour Out of Space with Nicolas Cage, while Buffy the Vampire Slayer actress Gellar is a horror icon thanks to her turns in I Know What You Did Last Summer, The Grudge and Scream 2. While a bit of a left swing, Cronenberg has acted several times before, appearing in TV series Star Trek: Discovery most recently, as well as Slasher and Alias Grace, and even cameos in his own films. This is where he's made his name, directing horror staples like The Fly, Videodrome and Scanners, alongside his new release The Shrouds. 'David Cronenberg being cast in Ready or Not 2… what a time to be alive,' exclaimed fan @BriAnimator_ on X, while Gretchen added: 'The sound I made when I saw this reveal.' 'This cast feels like a fever dream in the best possible way. Horror fans, we win,' enthused @Giii_014 as Debayo mused: 'How do you fit Cronenberg, Buffy, and Frodo into one horror movie without tearing a hole in reality?' Others praised the line-up 'killer' as Andi proclaimed: 'I was not into this idea before. But now I will be there.' 'Elijah Wood in a horror is usually something pretty bonkers, I'm keen,' said Joka0451 on Reddit. 'SMG and Elijah Wood are both scream queens, I cannot wait!' posted @TheHellMotel while @Nad_GarciaS shared: 'Calling Cronenberg, Gellar, Wood, Durand AND Samara Weaving 'ensemble' feels like assembling a horror Avengers team – too many heavy hitters or the perfect recipe for chaos? 🤔 Can Ready or Not 2 keep the claustrophobic tension or will the star power turn it into a crowded house of jump scares?' In Ready or Not, Samara played Grace, who couldn't be happier after she marries the man of her dreams at his family's luxurious estate. There's just one catch – she must now hide from midnight until dawn while her new in-laws hunt her down with guns, crossbows and other weapons. As Grace desperately tries to survive the night, she soon finds a way to turn the tables on her not-so-lovable relatives. More Trending 'It's the kind of low-budget, bound-for-cult-glory movie whose eccentricities will grow on you with repeated viewings, wrote critic Brian Eggert in his review, while Josh Larsen described the movie as 'the gorier, gushier, nastier cousin to Knives Out'. Filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett, aka Radio Silence, are returning to direct the survival horror; screenwriters Guy Busick ('Abigail,' 'Scream') and R. Christopher Murphy are also back. Ready or Not grossed $57million (£42.7m) on a $6m (£4.5m) budget, and its directors went on to make Scream (2022), Scream VI and Abigail in the interim. Movie Tea: Andrew Garfield Will Return As Spider-Man Only If…; 'Ready Or Not' Sequel Begins Production

Whenever a sequel rears its head, fans initially wonder what the plot will be about, when it will be released, and why the OG movie warrants a sequel in the first place. But the biggest question is: will we see some, if not all, of the original cast? With the biggest cinematic franchises making their new move, fans are dying to know if the sequels will feature familiar faces or new ones entirely. We've got the answers right here. 'Ready Or Not: Here I Come' Cast Revealed If you've been paying attention to horror films of late, you'd know how much the genre has transformed and evolved beyond the standard torture porn and slasher movies that dominated the 80s all the way to the 2010s. Moviegoers who are sick of the status quo have broken away from the tried and tested method, and we're better off for it. If it wasn't for that move, we might never have gotten 'Ready or Not', a hysterical horror comedy that captivated genre veterans and newbies alike – so it's a blessing that it's finally receiving its much-deserved sequel. That's right, 'Ready or Not: Here I Come' has now entered its production/filming stage in Toronto, Canada. Not only that, it has been confirmed by Deadline that the original star, Samara Weaving, will reprise her role as Grace, but that she'll also be joined by some Hollywood heavy hitters. In an interview when discussing the sequel, filmmakers Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (better known as Radio Silence) said, 'We're thrilled to be returning to the world of Ready or Not with Samara, Brett, Avery and Andrew and so excited to work with this immensely-talented cast and the incredible artists across every department joining the Ready or Not family.' Though it has not been confirmed, the filmmakers are likely talking about members of the first film's production team: cinematographer Brett Jutkiewicz, costume designer Avery Plewes, and likely the only actor to return besides Samara, Andrew Anthony. We stress, though, that these names are not official and were simply mentioned by the filmmakers. What is confirmed is the last of the actors who will be joining this emerging cult classic horror film. We have the previously-announced Kathryn Newton and then new faces such as Sarah Michelle Gellar, Elijah Wood, Shawn Hatosy, Néstor Carbonell, Kevin Durand, and even David Cronenberg. This is a decorated cast if we've ever seen one, but their respective roles in the film are still kept under wraps. Matthew Greenfield, President of Searchlight Pictures, stated that 'We're beyond excited to make another film with the phenomenal Radio Silence. With Ready or Not: Here I Come, we get to go on another ride with the amazing Samara Weaving, mix in awesome new voices, and bring audiences a fresh take that's every bit as twisted and fun as the first one. This is for those who've been waiting and those who didn't see it coming.' 'Ready or Not' is a cinematic darling, as the film managed to earn over US$57 million off its US$6 million production cost. The only thing that's shocking about this film is the fact that it didn't receive a sequel sooner, especially considering the numbers. Regardless, we can rest assured that we will be receiving the same brand of comedy and continuity, as the script is penned by the original writers, Guy Busick and R. Christopher Murphy. Unfortunately, we have to wait a little longer, as none of the crew or studio higher-ups disclosed a speculative or targeted release date. Andrew Garfield Will Return As The Web-Head Under One Condition It's no surprise that, though his iteration of Spider-Man didn't stick as well as his counterparts', Andrew Garfield is still a loved and cherished actor who has donned the iconic red and blue suit. Ever since his reprisal of the role in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home,' fans have been begging to see more of Garfield in future MCU installments, something that he isn't against – but under a specific condition. While on a panel at Abu Dhabi Comic Con, the 'Tick, Tick… Boom!' star was asked if he would return as Peter Parker again, to which he answered that he doesn't know, but is more than willing to return to the MCU with the aforementioned condition. The actor went on to say that 'I would love to play the character again in some capacity, but I think it would have to be very weird. I think I would like to do something very strange; I would want to do something very unique and offbeat and surprising.' He especially emphasised that he'd like some creative freedom to be his own version of the web-slinger. And, frankly speaking, it's not an odd request to make. If you'd remember, Willem Dafoe made a similar request that if he were to return to 'No Way Home,' he'd be doing his own stunts for a major part of, if not the entire, film. Furthermore, the fact that we're well in the Multiverse Saga of the MCU with rumours that Garfield and Tobey Maguire will reprise their roles in time for 'Avengers: Doomsday' and 'Avengers: Secret Wars' running amok, it's only natural for the actor to request that he differentiate himself from other Wall-Crawlers. However, until then, there's no room for any more Spider-Mans. Yet, we cannot deny the story potential that Garfield is throwing to the MCU staff and writers. Where that will lead us is anyone's guess, but we're absolutely stoked for it all the same. Sources: Screen Rant, Deadline
