Gadget store staff dies after being stabbed in Laguna

GMA Network2 days ago
A female employee has died after being stabbed several times by a thief inside a gadget store in Cabuyao, Laguna.
According to Jhomer Apresto's Wednesday report on 'Saksi,' the 27-year-old victim was stabbed by a man, who stole 30 cellphones worth P90,000 and P21,000 cash from the store.
According to the police, the victim sustained stab wounds on her neck, shoulder, and abdomen.
Despite sustaining injuries, the victim was able to inform her manager about the incident.
However, the manager said the victim went silent on the phone a few minutes after.
She was brought to the hospital after her co-workers found her lying on the ground, but she died.
The police said the store was about to open when the suspect entered.
The police also did not provide the CCTV footage to the media. They identified the person of interest who was surveying the area before the incident.
He was caught in another CCTV footage, carrying an eco bag while onboard a tricycle. The bag may have contained the stolen items.
The police recovered the tricycle, which was owned by the suspect's brother.
Investigation showed that the suspect had been in Cabuyao for a week and told his brother that he would borrow the tricycle.
The suspect remains at large. — Mariel Celine Serquiña/BAP, GMA Integrated News

Nadia Montenegro, Baron Geisler celebrate daughter Sophia's birthday together

Nadia Montenegro and Baron Geisler came together to celebrate the birthday of their daughter Sophia. On Facebook, Nadia posted a few snaps of the casual celebration, where Baron and his wife Jamie Evangelista were part of the group. "A day of celebration! Thank you Lord for the lives of Samantha and Sophia! Happy birthday my babies," Nadia wrote in the caption of her post, which she uploaded earlier this week. In a "Fast Talk" interview last year, Nadia admitted that Baron Geisler is the father of her daughter Sophia, who was turning 18. She said she was coming forward with the truth to 'put an exclamation to everything.' In the interview, Nadia said Sophia has always known Baron was her real father, and that they have always been in contact. Later in 2024, Sophia appeared in Mikee Quintos' "Lutong Bahay" with her mom, and shared how she frequently talks with her dad. Nadia also shared how she did not tell Sophia about it and only her late partner, Boy Asistio, and Sophia's siblings knew about her father. But Sophia had always known. She was the one who confronted Nadia when she was 16 years old. On Thursday, Nadia Montenegro, who is a member of Sen. Robin Padilla's staff, was named in a Senate incident report about an alleged use of marijuana inside the premises of the chamber. According to the report, Nadia denied smoking inside the ladies' room and using marijuana. On Friday, it was reported that Padilla's office asked Nadia to take a leave of absence amid the controversy. — LA, GMA Integrated News

Discharged PAF personnel arrested for allegedly offering ‘slot' in military

A person pretending to be a recruiter for the Philippine Air Force (PAF), who has been discharged from service, was arrested in Mataas na Kahoy, Batangas for allegedly offering a slot to enter military service in exchange for money. To achieve his dream of becoming a soldier, the victim paid P32,000 to the suspect. But the latter still asked for another P89,000 to ensure his slot and for the uniform, the report added. 'He asked for an initial amount of P32,000 to give him a slot for the recruitment. However, after one day, nanghingi po ulit ang ating suspect (the suspect again asked for money),' said Criminal Investigation and Detection Group Batangas provincial officer Major Michael Visco. The suspect was arrested during a joint operation by the CIDG-Batangas and the PAF. 'Dati po siyang personnel ng Air Force. However, she was discharged,' said Visco. The suspect is now facing various charges including estafa and usurpation of authority, according to the report. Authorities advised the public to directly apply in government agencies and that there are no fees required for application. — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News

5 students arrested for being alleged source of ‘tuklaw' in Puerto Princesa

Authorities arrested five students who were the alleged source of 'tuklaw' or black cigarettes that were used by three youngsters and caused seizures in Puerto Princesa City, Palawan. According to Jun Veneracion's report in '24 Oras' on Thursday, the suspects arrested in a buy-bust operation were aged between 19 to 25. 'Ito kasing nahuli natin is the identified source of the tuklaw na may synthetic cannabinoid nga dito sa Puerto Princesa,' said Police Col. Cristine Tabdi, Puerto Princesa City Police Station acting director. (These people we arrested were identified as the source of tuklaw containing synthetic cannabinoid here in Puerto Princesa.) Aside from synthetic cannabinoid, authorities also seized marijuana from the suspects during the operation. The suspects are now facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act. GMA Integrated News is trying to get comments from the suspects. Meanwhile, the Philippine National Police (PNP) said that it is still looking for other suspects behind the proliferation of 'tuklaw' in the country. 'Marami pa ang ating tinitingnan na mga tao at sisiguraduhin nating na hindi ito maglipana pa,' said PNP chief Gen. Nicolas Torre III. (We are looking into several individuals and we will make sure that these will no longer proliferate.) The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency earlier said that the synthetic cannabinoid found in the 'tuklaw' puffed by several individuals in separate incidents in Quezon City and Palawan caused their seizures. Investigation by the PNP showed that 'tuklaw' is being sold by the suspects online. One milliliter of synthetic cannabinoid is being sold for P300. But the police are still investigating where the suspects get their supply, the report said. 'May mga illicit trading routes na tinitignan natin na maaring pinagdadaanan ng mga substance na ito,' said Torre. (We are looking into illicit trading routes where these substances pass through.) Further, the PNP warned minors from trying 'tuklaw' and other illegal drugs. 'Walang mabuting idudulot sa inyo 'yan. Ang bottomline lang diyan, wala pa akong nakitang adik na maganda at gwapo….Tignan niyo ang before and after, artista napakaganda, na-adik, tignan mo itsura,' said Torre. (It will not do you anything good. The bottomline here is I haven't seen any addicts who look good…Just look at the before and after of celebrities, an actress used to be beautiful but she changed after becoming an addict.) — Vince Angelo Ferreras/BAP, GMA Integrated News
