Single mother uses daughter's PTPTN loan for survival in Dungun
Zailawati Ismail, 41, from Felda Jerangau, shared her struggles after her husband died two years ago in a workplace accident.
With chronic endometriosis limiting her ability to work, Zailawati depends on the PTPTN loan taken by her eldest daughter, Nur Aina Najiha Ramli, 19, a private college student in Kuantan.
The funds help cover food, transport to medical appointments, and daily essentials.
'I can't do heavy work due to my condition. We often eat just rice with soy sauce because we can't afford more,' she said.
The family survives on RM400 monthly aid from the Social Welfare Department, which falls short of their needs.
Her 16-year-old son, Mohd Aiman Haikal, helps by doing odd jobs after school. Recently, her youngest daughter, Nur Alia Batrisya, 12, broke her leg in a netball accident, adding to their struggles.

'This assistance is aimed at ensuring the children's well-being is safeguarded and their education and daily lives can continue smoothly despite the loss of their parents,' Fatimah told reporters. A one-off cash aid of RM400 was also credited directly into the account of their aunt, Hawi Shafiee, who is now the children's legal guardian. Several schools, including SK Kampung Seberang, SMK Three Rivers, SMK St Patrick, and the Mukah branch of Tabung Baitulmal Sarawak (TBS), also stepped in to provide essential supplies and financial support. This initiative reflects the compassion and solidarity of both the community and the government in supporting children through tragic circumstances. Fatimah further urged the local community to continue playing an active role in safeguarding the future of the children. Sarawak premier opens up on grief after wife's passing
MIRI: Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Openg today admitted that he was still coming to terms with the passing of his wife, Puan Sri Juma'ani Tuanku Bujang, who died last month. Speaking publicly on the matter for the first time about her death, Abang Johari said her passing was deeply felt not only by him but also by the rest of his family. "God loves her more than we do," the premier said at the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of the RM400 million Marina Bay bridge here. "Since she is no longer with us, that is why I brought my daughter with me to Miri," Abang Johari said. He said his wife, who died on June 23, had always been a source of inspiration to him in his service to the people. He added that she and other family members shared his aspirations in his efforts to develop and bring progress to the state. "To me, they have been sources of inspiration, because at the end of the day it is the people who benefit. RM500 aid disbursed to UiTM Sabah students under PTPTN scheme
KOTA KINABALU: A total of 159 needy students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) Sabah received one-off financial aid of RM500 each to ease their financial burden. Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abdul Kadir (pic) said the RM79,500 allocation was disbursed under the ministry's PTPTN Madani Education Assistance Programme. 'This initiative is to ensure that all eligible students have access to quality education regardless of financial background, in line with the ministry and PTPTN's commitment to enhancing higher education in the country. 'The aid reflects our concern for students needing financial support to pursue their dreams,' he said during the presentation ceremony held at the university yesterday, Bernama reported. Zambry said the financial aid was contributed by various parties through PTPTN. He also urged parents to open National Education Savings Scheme (SSPN) accounts for their children's future education needs. 'Parents can open an account as soon as the child is born and start saving gradually. Over time, the amount will grow and can later be used to fund higher education,' he said. PTPTN, in a statement issued following the event, said that since the education assistance programme's introduction in 2022, a total of RM981,000 had been disbursed to benefit 1,962 students across 16 public universities.
