Unpacking Future Packers: No. 12, California CB Nohl Williams
The Unpacking Future Packers Countdown is a countdown of 100 prospects who the Green Bay Packers could select in the 2025 NFL draft.
The Green Bay Packers have had a lot of moving parts at the cornerback position this offseason. They've lost Eric Stokes, Corey Ballentine and Robert Rochell in free agency and inked Nate Hobbs to a four-year deal.

The biggest domino that has yet to fall is the status of Jaire Alexander. Brian Gutekunst continues to comb the trade market for a potential deal and if they can't find a dance partner, the Packers could release him, or maybe there's a universe in which he's still on the roster when the Packers open the 2025 season.
The mini remodel of the cornerback room inside 1265 Lombardi Avenue will continue during the 2025 NFL Draft, where it's likely that Gutekunst uses a pair of picks on the position.
A potential target on Day 2 of the draft is Nohl Williams. The California Golden Bear cornerback checks in at No. 12 in the Unpacking Future Packers Countdown.
A three-star recruit out of California, Williams started his collegiate career at UNLV. During his three seasons at UNLV, Williams recorded five interceptions and 10 pass deflections.

Williams transferred to California for the 2023 season and recorded 53 tackles, two tackles for loss, two interceptions and six pass deflections.
This past season Williams recorded 52 tackles, one tackle for loss, nine pass deflections and an FBS-leading seven interceptions.
"Nohl was the anchor of the Cal defense," Jim McGill, the editor for Bear Insider, said. "He had a solid junior season but took it to a different level last season."
Williams is solidly built for the position. A high school wide receiver, Williams has natural ball skills and is opportunistic in coverage. His instincts and outstanding field vision put him in a position to make plays on the ball. He has disciplined eyes and processes route concepts quickly. Combine his instincts with his explosive trigger and you get a player who led the FBS in interceptions this past season and finished his career with 14 interceptions. The UNLV transfer does a nice job of using his length to play through the hands of the receiver.

"HIs confidence in his ability to be both physical and fast enough to stay with his man had Nohl in position to make plays all season," McGill said. "It was very difficult for receivers to get past him, and he played the ball like a receiver when it was in the air."
William is smooth in his pedal and has good foot agility. While he's not an explosive athlete, he has good change-of-direction skills and is able to run routes for wide receivers. He's subtle in using his hands and is able to redirect receivers.
Williams is a willing downfield tackler and doesn't shy away from contact. Missed tacklers were a rare sight in 2024. He does a nice job of tackling in the open field and getting his man to the ground to limit YAC. After missing 14 tackles during his first season as a Golden Bear, Williams missed just three tackles in 2024. During his time at UNLV he was tagged with 17 missed tackles in three seasons.
"Nohl was fourth on the team in tackles, which is fairly unusual for a cornerback, especially in Cal's system, where middle linebackers and safeties tend to make the most tackles,," McGill said. "He's towards the upper end of physical corners with good ball skills."

Williams brings special teams value as a return specialist. He returned 27 kickoffs and returned one for a touchdown and averaged 24.1 yards per return. He also returned 11 punts during his career and averaged 6.7 yards per return. On top of that, he logged 617 snaps on special teams and recorded four tackles.
Fit with the Packers
The Packers have a lot of cornerbacks and that can play on the boundary and in the slot. Williams only logged 101 snaps in the slot during his collegiate career and would give the Packers a bonafide boundary cornerback who could challenge for reps as a rookie.
Gutekunst spoke at the NFL Scouting Combine about how Jeff Hafley's defense may require cornerbacks who are instincitive and have good field vision. From Gutekunst:
'I do think with what Jeff's trying to do, there's a lot more vision and awareness and instincts out there than maybe we've played with in the past."

Williams is an instinctive cornerback with a knack for making splash plays. He's always in the right place at the right time and gives up little separation in coverage. He checks the boxes for what Gutekunst described in the aforementioned quote.
Hafley emphasizes taking the ball away and only one cornerback in this draft class (Quincy Riley) took the ball away more than Williams. With his frame, instincts and ball skills, Williams could be high on Green Bay's board when Day 2 of the draft kicks off on April 25.

He earned a spot on the Pro Football Writers Association's All-Rookie Team in 2022. He has only gotten better since then. A member of the past two Pro Bowl rosters, he earned a First-Team All-Pro nod in 2023 before being named a Second-Teamer in 2024. One star alone, however, does not an elite safety tandem make, so Baltimore found an answer and an upgrade during the first round of this past April's draft in Malaki Starks. Saying defense coordinator Zach Orr is excited would be a massive understatement. This past week, he expressed his expectation for Hamilton and Starks as a duo. The NFL is a long way from college football in terms of level of competition, but Starks looks like a sure thing. Baltimore is hoping his skill set translates to the highest level of football. During his time in Athens with the Georgia Bulldogs, he was named a Freshman All-American and became a College Football Playoff National Champion. He was a Consensus All-American in 2023, a First-team All-American in 2024, and has two First-Team All-SEC (2023, 2024) to show for his trouble. He's used to playing in big games. He's certain to play in several this season, and fortunately for him, though the pressure to perform will come quickly, he doesn't have to do everything on his own.

Former star New York Giant defensive lineman Chris Canty has gone on offense — against his Upper West Side tenant. The Super Bowl champ and co-host of ESPN Radio's 'Unsportsmanlike' has been accused of unnecessary roughness as he tries to oust the last remaining resident of a five-story, $5.2 million townhouse Canty owns, according to court records. The 6-foot-7-inch, 380-pound defensive end wants to transform the nine-unit West 89th Street building into his own luxury townhouse — but 5-foot-6 data analyst Stuart Kalmenson stands in his way. 'I had the choice of either getting bullied, or fighting the good fight,' Kalmenson said. Kalmenson, 59, has lived in his two-bedroom apartment just steps from Central Park for 19 years, paying $2,600 a month rent when Canty, who works out of NYC for ESPN and has a home in Hilton Head, South Carolina, bought the building. But his longtime home has become a house of horrors. Kalmenson has spent more than two years without utilities, made it through the winter without heat or hot water; and lives with floors so rotted and chewed through by mice he's been force 'to 'block off' about one-third of the living room for safety reasons,' he claimed in court filings. He kept warm with a space heater and washes his clothes in the bathtub, alleged Kalmenson, who told the court the condition of his home was 'truly appalling and unsafe,' records show. 'He just wants to destroy me,' Kalmenson, who has traded multiple legal blows with Canty, told The Post. The rest of the tenants moved out as their leases expired, about three months after the 2011 Super Bowl winner bought the building in March 2020, Canty said in court papers. Around the same time, Kalmenson — who had lost his job during the pandemic — had planned to move into a friend's basement, but the arrangement fell through at the last minute, he said. After that, he negotiated with Canty's real estate management company and became a month-to-month tenant, invoices provided by Kalmenson showed. But by July 2020, Canty filed in housing court to give Kalmenson the boot. The proceeding is ongoing. Then in November 2020, a construction crew started work, stripping the halls and other units to the studs with Kalmenson and his Spaniel, Charles, inside. Canty denied wrongdoing. 'Mr. Kalmenson's allegations are without merit,' said Canty's lawyer, William M. Moran. The former NFL-er was fined $20,000 by the city Buildings Department in 2021 for falsely claiming the building was empty when the work began, and not having a 'tenant protection plan' in place for Kalmenson, according to DOB records. That same year, Canty began eviction proceedings against Kalmenson, accusing him of overstaying his lease. At the same time he accused the tenant in a separate Manhattan lawsuit of 'a campaign of intimidation and harassment' against him and of filing 'spurious claims with the Department of Buildings.' In October 2021, Canty offered Kalmenson $45,000 to move out — but the tenant said he chose to stay, because he'd just been approved for emergency pandemic rental relief which allowed him to stay in his home another year. The construction stopped in April, after Kalmenson counter-sued Canty in Manhattan Supreme Court. The city Department of Housing Preservation and Development has also slapped the former lineman with 410 violations since2022 and sued him twice for the violations — ultimately settling for a total of $8,000, records show. Kalmenson insisted in court papers that prior landlords violated the law by treating the building as a co-operative, when it should have been rent stabilized — a move which would have allowed the residents to stay after Canty purchased it. Canty, who is also being sued by the city and state for allegedly evading more than $1 million in taxes related to his purchase of the property, claims the building is still a co-op and should not be deemed rent stabilized, legal papers show. 'If I'm entitled to a rent stabilized lease. I don't need to get bullied out of my own home by some guy just because he happened to be a football player,' Kalmenson said. Canty spent 11 years in the NFL as part of the Giants, the Dallas Cowboys and the Baltimore Ravens before retiring in 2015. He began working in radio in 2021, when he joined 98.7 FM's DiPietro, Canty & Rothenberg weekday morning show. A rep for Canty didn't immediately respond to a request for comment.

North Florida reliever Kaden Humphrey announced his commitment to Alabama in a post to social media Saturday. Listed as 6-foot-1, 189 pounds, Humphrey appeared in 24 games for UNF this past season and was 2-2 with a 4.30 ERA. In 29 1/3 innings, he struck out 46 batters and walked 17 while notching 11 saves for a 1.34 WHIP. Opponents batted .206 against Humphrey. In two seasons with the Ospreys, Humphrey posted a 5.05 ERA over 66 innings pitched. He struck out 89 batters while walking 42 in that span. He'll be a senior in 2026 after his two seasons at UNF, plus his freshman campaign at Stetson in the Atlantic Sun conference in 2023. Alabama will looking to replace right-hander Carson Ozmer (4-2, 3.29 ERA) in the bullpen after his NCAA-leading 17 saves in 2025. Ozmer is one of 13 finalists for the annual NCBWA Stopper of the Year Award, presented to the top relief pitcher in the nation. The Crimson Tide finished the 2025 season 41-18 overall and were 16-14 in SEC play during the regular season in head coach Rob Vaughn's second year in Tuscaloosa. Alabama's 40 victories in the regular season marked the first time since 2002 that the program had posted 40 or more wins in a regular season. Alabama was the No. 2 seed at the Hattiesburg Regional and were ranked No. 20 in the USA TODAY Sports Coaches Poll entering the NCAA Tournament.
