Army Chief inspects army units deployed in South Litani sector, says rockets launched from Lebanese territory serve the enemy

National News29-03-2025
NNA - Army Commander, General Rodolph Haykal, inspected on Saturday the South Litani Sector Command at the Benoit Barakat Barracks in Tyre, where he met with officers and soldiers.
Haykal emphasized that "the deployed units, officers and soldiers, play a fundamental role in serving the nation and contributing to its resilience," adding that "the duty of the military institution is to protect Lebanon and its people, regardless of their affiliations."
Haykal stressed that the Lebanese army is exerting tremendous efforts to carry out its missions in the south, as confirmed by the leadership of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) and the five-member committee supervising the ceasefire agreement (Mechanism).
He said: "We are committed to implementing Resolution 1701 and the ceasefire agreement without any delay, in accordance with the directives of His Excellency the President of the Republic, General Joseph Aoun, and based on the commitment of the Lebanese government. We will continue to cooperate, coordinate, and implement joint missions with UNIFIL."
General Haykal continued to underline that "the only obstacle before the completion of the army's deployment and the consolidation of the ceasefire is the presence of the Israeli enemy in the occupied points and positions within Lebanese territory, in addition to its repeated attacks on Lebanon, its violations of national sovereignty, and its efforts to find pretexts to expand its hostile actions against our homeland."
On the launching of rockets from Lebanese territory towards the occupied Palestinian territories, Haykal considered that this serves the enemy, noting that the army is conducting the necessary investigations to uncover the perpetrators, and has arrested a number of suspects who are under investigation.
He also emphasized the army leadership's efforts to stand by the military soldiers and improve their conditions through several steps, most notably the continued support for military medical coverage.
The Army Chief concluded by extending his warmest well-wishes to the soldiers on the occasion of Eid al-Fitr.
He then inspected the Maroun al-Ras Center, affiliated with the Fifth Intervention Regiment, where he was briefed on the operational situation within the Regiment's area of responsibility.

Silent Execution Fears Rise as Ben-Gvir Threat Against Barghouti Sparks Prisoner Alarm

In a statement issued after a video released Thursday evening, Palestinian Prisoners Club Chairman Abdullah al-Zaghari said Israeli Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir's threat against Palestinian leader Marwan Barghouti amounted to a clear indication of the occupation's intent to liquidate him and other imprisoned leaders. Al-Zaghari described the remarks as emerging from a backdrop of unprecedented crimes against prisoners since the start of the war, heightening fears for Barghouti's safety. Breaking | Israeli far-right minister Itamar Ben Gvir forcibly entered the solitary confinement section of 'Ganot' prison and directly threatened Palestinian prisoner Marwan Barghouti, a senior Fatah Central Committee member, in his cell. Ben Gvir reportedly said: 'You will not… — Quds News Network (@QudsNen) August 14, 2025 Al-Zaghari noted that Barghouti, who has been held in solitary confinement since the war began, is currently in Ramon Prison along with numerous other prisoner movement leaders. He described harsh and tragic conditions, including starvation, denial of medical care, and systematic assaults by heavily armed special units during crackdowns. Barghouti and dozens of other leaders have reportedly endured repeated assaults with injuries of varying severity, as prison authorities continue to obstruct visits and frequently transfer detainees under brutal conditions. The chairman placed full responsibility for Barghouti's life and safety on the occupying authorities, urging the international community to reassert its role in opposing the 'war of extermination,' halting the systematic abuses of prisoners, and ending what he termed complicity and impotence in the face of occupation policies. Raed Abu al-Hummus, head of the Commission of Prisoners' and Freed Prisoners' Affairs, described Ben-Gvir's actions as a 'public threat' and said the words and tone used by Ben-Gvir inside Barghouti's cell signal dangerous concealed intentions. Abu al-Hummus recalled Ben-Gvir's history of torturing prisoners on camera and characterized his conduct as rooted in hatred and racism. He warned that the life of a leader like Abu al-Qassam could be at risk and urged Palestinians to rally in support of Barghouti and other unifying figures, while calling on international organizations to intervene to protect him. In the same context, the Palestinian Center for the Defense of Prisoners warned that prisoner Barghouti could be subjected to a silent execution, given the continued incitement against him from the highest Israeli levels, which has reached a very dangerous stage. He pointed out that what happened constitutes barbaric behavior that reflects the mentality of the gangs that have come to dominate the work of the current right-wing government. He reiterated his call for the international community and the United Nations to provide international protection for Palestinian prisoners and detainees in light of the increasing Israeli abuse of their rights and the legitimization of this abuse by the prison authorities. Ben-Gvir Threatens Barghouti Yesterday, Thursday, Ben-Gvir stormed the solitary confinement section of Ganot Prison (also known as Ramon Prison or Nafha Prison) and threatened prisoner leader Barghouti inside his cell, telling him: 'You will not defeat us. Whoever harms the people of Israel, we will wipe them out.' Marwan Barghouti is a prominent politician and leader in the Fatah movement. He participated in the First Intifada in 1987 and was one of the most prominent figures of the Second Intifada in 2000.

Hezbollah Threatens: Qassem Warns ‘There Will Be No Life if the Government Confronts Us'

Hezbollah Secretary-General Sheikh Naim Qassem threatened the Lebanese government, stating that 'there will be no life in Lebanon if the government tries to confront the party,' holding it 'fully responsible for any internal unrest and any destruction of Lebanon.' He emphasized that 'the resistance will not hand over its weapons and the aggression continues,' adding, 'We will fight a Karbala-like battle against Israeli-American aggression, and we are confident that we will be victorious.' Qassem said that 'the government has made a very serious decision that violates the national pact and destroys national security,' adding, 'Do not involve the army in this path; its national record is clean.' He revealed that 'Hezbollah and Amal have agreed to postpone the option of taking to the streets and protesting, giving space for discussion and amendments,' announcing that 'Hezbollah postponed protests against the handover of weapons on the basis that dialogue is possible, and street protests afterward could reach the US Embassy in Lebanon.' Qassem said that 'the government serves the Israeli project, whether knowingly or unknowingly, and it should have stopped the aggressions and begun to confine weapons to prevent the enemy's presence on its territory,' adding, 'We have repeatedly said: stop the aggression and remove Israel from Lebanon; you will have our full cooperation during discussions on defense strategy and national security.' He considered 'the sinful decision is the government's acceptance of facilitating the killing of its partners in the country so they can enjoy a life they were promised,' saying, 'You are not trying to protect Lebanon, but to protect your own lives at the expense of your partners' lives,' noting that 'the government's duty is to build the country, not hand it over to the Israeli and American enemy,' asking, 'Can the nation be stable if one group attacks another?' He added, 'If you feel powerless, leave the enemy to face us, and just as Israel's repeated wars have failed, this one will fail,' considering that 'the resistance has preserved Lebanon's sovereign independence, and we cannot speak of sovereignty without speaking of the resistance. It has formed Lebanon's strength in facing challenges, and these achievements are honorable.' Qassem pointed out that 'a poll by the Consultative Center shows that the Lebanese do not believe the army alone can protect Lebanon, and diplomacy alone is not enough; the prevailing opinion among Lebanese is with the resistance,' adding, 'Iran is still on our side and will remain so, just as the banner of the resistance will remain raised.' Qassem paid tribute to 'the army martyrs who fell in Zibqin,' noting that they are 'martyrs of duty toward humanity, justice, the resistance, the army, and the nation.'

Qassem says Hezbollah won't hand over arms 'while aggression continues'

by Naharnet Newsdesk 15 August 2025, 11:52 Hezbollah chief Sheikh Naim Qassem on Friday accused the Lebanese government of "handing" the country to Israel by pushing for the group's disarmament, warning it would fight to keep its weapons. Qassem spoke in a televised address several hours after meeting Iran's top security chief Ali Larijani, whose country has long backed the Lebanese armed group. Hezbollah emerged badly weakened from last year's war with Israel, and under U.S. pressure the Lebanese government has ordered the army to devise a plan to disarm the group by the end of the year. Iran, whose so-called "axis of resistance" includes Hezbollah, has also suffered a series of setbacks, most recently in the war with Israel that saw the United States strike its nuclear sites. "The government is implementing an American-Israeli order to end the resistance, even if it leads to civil war and internal strife," Qassem warned. "The resistance will not surrender its weapons while aggression continues, occupation persists, and we will fight it... if necessary to confront this American-Israeli project no matter the cost," he said. Qassem urged the government "not to hand over the country to an insatiable Israeli aggressor or an American tyrant with limitless greed." He also said the government would "bear responsibility for any internal explosion and any destruction of Lebanon," accusing it of "leading the country to ruin." Hezbollah and its ally Amal Movement would not be organizing any street protests at this time, he said, while threatening to do so in future "across Lebanon" and "at the U.S. Embassy" in Awkar. Before the war with Israel, Hezbollah was believed to be better armed than the Lebanese military. It long maintained it had to keep its arsenal in order to defend Lebanon from attack, but critics accused it of using its weapons for political leverage. Iran's Supreme National Security Council chief Larijani was in Beirut this week, where he met Qassem as well as with President Joseph Aoun. Iran has expressed its opposition to the government's disarmament plan, and has vowed to continue to provide support. Aoun told Larijani that he rejected any interference in the country's internal affairs, branding as "unconstructive" Iran's statements on plans to disarm Hezbollah.
