Rippling accuses rival "unicorn" Deel of espionage
Rippling has sued rival payroll and HR unicorn Deel, accusing it of espionage.
Why it matters: Each company is valued north of $10 billion by big-name venture capital firms.
Zoom in: Rippling alleges in its complaint that Deel planted a mole inside of Rippling's Ireland office, and that it created a fake Slack channel as a "honeypot" to suss out the rogue employee.
Rippling adds that the effort was designed by Deel to steal customers, retain customers who were considering a switch, poach employees, and leak information to the media.
Rippling is being represented by Alex Spiro, an attorney known for his work with Elon Musk.
A Deel spokesperson declined comment, saying the company hadn't yet seen the suit.
The bottom line: This one is full of strange bedfellows.
Rippling is being represented by Alex Spiro, best known for his legal work with Elon Musk.
But Rippling is led by Parker Conrad, who was replaced as CEO of his prior startup, Zenefits, by David Sacks — a Musk confidant and fellow Trump White House advisor who's publicly savaged Conrad (and vice versa).
One of Deel's top backers in Andreessen Horowitz, which also has sent several members to Trump's White House and has backed Musk's recent business efforts.

OpenLedger Commits $25M to Fund AI Blockchain Startups
Blockchain protocol OpenLedger said it will commit $25 million to fund AI and Web3 developers. The capital will be available on OpenCircle, a new launchpad set up by the California-based project to assist developers with creating AI-focused protocols. The funding comes at a time of increased intersection between the blockchain and AI industries. Telegram last month announced a deal with Elon Musk's xAI to incorporate the Grok AI chatbot on the messaging app, with the app also accepting the TON token for crypto payments. 'AI is currently an extractive economy, profiting from invisible labor and centralized training pipelines,' said Ram, a core contributor at OpenLedger. 'OpenCircle turns that model inside out. We're building a system where anyone who contributes, whether through code, data, or compute, owns a piece of the value they help create.' OpenLedger raised $8 million in a seed round in 2024 as it looked to become the "sovereign data blockchain for AI technology." The company also signed a deal with restaking protocol to enhance AI model development and security, has $6.5 billion in total value locked (TVL).

Beat the Market the Zacks Way: Ryanair, Monster Beverage, Ulta Beauty in Focus
Last Friday, the three most widely followed benchmark indexes closed a winning week. The Dow Jones Industrial Average, the S&P 500 and the Nasdaq Composite advanced 1.2%, 1.5% and 2.2%, respectively. A stronger-than-expected May jobs report boosted investor confidence, pushing the S&P???500 above 6,000 for the first time since Feb. 21. Tech stocks led the charge, with Nvidia's earnings shooting up 26% and Tesla recovering after a sharp fall linked to a public spat between Elon Musk and President Trump. Broader optimism stemmed from easing U.S.-China trade tensions following presidential talks, helping global indices hit record highs. President Trump confirmed that he had had a very good phone call with President Xi and that trade negotiations would commence as early as this week. While tariff concerns continue to dominate proceedings, resilient data and upbeat earnings kept markets firmly in bullish territory. Tesla shares slip after double downgrade amid Trump feud fallout
-- Baird analysts have downgraded Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA) to Neutral, citing "uncertainty abounds" around the company's near-term outlook. Shares in the company fell 1.8% in pre-market trade. Despite a strong recent performance, which saw TSLA shares climb 24% following a "fundamentally poor quarter," Baird believes "lofty expectations" for the June launch of a more affordable vehicle and robotaxi service are already priced into shares. Baird highlighted several reasons for the downgrade, including "lofty expectations, key-man risk, and increasing competition." The analysts specifically pointed to CEO Elon Musk's relationship with President Donald Trump, stating that it "now adds uncertainty and fuels questions regarding brand damage." They see Musk's political activities as exemplifying "key-person risk associated with Musk's political activities." Baird expects these brand concerns to "persist until sustained evidence of volume growth avails itself." Regarding the much-anticipated robotaxi service, Baird noted that "Robotaxi expectations are high, and competition is intensifying." While Musk has projected "hundreds of thousands of vehicles on the road by 2H next year," Baird's model forecasts only 6,000. They believe the robotaxi business will be "harder (and likely less profitable) than the lofty expectations held by several investors." Baird has also lowered its 2026 delivery estimates for Tesla, reflecting the removal of the EV tax credit. Their updated estimates for Q2 2025 deliveries are 377,000, below the consensus of 404,800. For the full year 2025, they project 1.72 million deliveries (versus consensus 1.70 million), and for 2026, 2.19 million (versus consensus 2.06 million). Despite these near-term concerns, Baird maintains its long-term view of Tesla as a "core holding." They see an "outsized opportunity related to both robotaxi and robotics" in the longer run, but are "stepping to the sidelines for now." Analysts at Baird also lowered their rating on Tesla stock.
