Jets rookie OT Armand Membou thrives in preseason debut vs. the Packers

USA Todaya day ago
The New York Jets defeated the Green Bay Packers 30-10 in Saturday's preseason Week 1 contest. It was a fruitful showing for several Jets starters and backups. Rookie offensive tackle Armand Membou was one of the best players on the field.
Head coach Aaron Glenn gave Membou an extended look. Justin Fields and the majority of the starting offensive line played 10 total snaps. Membou earned 22 snaps as Coach Glenn awarded him an opportunity to make a longer-lasting impact. He took full advantage.
Membou created rushing lanes in the ground game. The former Missouri standout played a clean contest, avoiding being whistled for a penalty. In pass protection, Membou allowed zero sacks or pressures, according to Next Gen Stats.
Pro Football Focus awarded Membou a pass-blocking grade of 77.9. The only Jets starters who scored better in pass protection were Alijah Vera-Tucker (79.2) and Joe Tippmann (79.2). The Jets had an effective game in protection, as none of their three quarterbacks were sacked.
Membou's debut made him look worthy of the No. 7 overall selection in the 2025 NFL draft. The Jets expect their top-10 pick to be an instant upgrade in the starting lineup at right tackle. Membou's performance in Week 1 of the preseason was incredibly encouraging.

Jets' Justin Fields shares he's 'low-key addicted' to reading his Bible, talks relationship with God

New York Jets quarterback Justin Fields is set to start his first season with the club and suggested he's relying on his faith more than ever as he navigates his new surroundings. Fields spoke to reporters on Tuesday and talked about how his relationship with God has helped him block out the outside noise around him and focus on the tasks at hand. "I don't play for anybody's approval," Fields explained. "You guys are all gonna have your opinion and I'm never gonna take any of it personal. Like I said, it doesn't matter. Y'all can have an opinion, y'all can say this and that, but at the end of the day our lives aren't gonna change. If I say something to y'all right now, the same thing's gonna happen. "It doesn't really affect life, it doesn't really affect the way we live. So, if you look at it from that perspective, the bigger perspective, no matter what anybody says, it doesn't matter at the end of the day. It has zero meaning to me, to anybody. God controls everything that happens in this world. I just let people be and let them speak." Fields said he picked up the mindset over the last six months. He joined the Jets in free agency after one season with the Pittsburgh Steelers and several with the Chicago Bears. He said getting "closer to God" was a major reason why his focus changed. "My relationship, my reading the Bible everyday," he said. "If I'm being real, there's some great lines and great wisdom that I didn't even know of. I'm low-key addicted to getting in my Bible each and every day because I learn something new every day and I'm able to apply it to my everyday life. "I was sleeping on reading the Bible earlier in my life. I wish I would have started earlier. So, I encourage y'all to go read a little bit. Start in Proverbs and move on from there."

Josh Jacobs becomes third Packers player on 'NFL Top 100 Players' list for 2025

Pro Bowl running back Josh Jacobs became the third member of the Green Bay Packers to land on the "NFL Top 100 Players" list for the 2025 season. Jacobs, who came in at No. 33, joins quarterback Jordan Love (No. 68) and defensive end Rashan Gary (No. 80) on the list. During his first season in Green Bay, Jacobs rushed for 1,329 yards (sixth in NFL) and 15 touchdowns (fourth). Counting receiving stats, Jacobs had 1,671 total yards (sixth) and 16 touchdowns (fifth) across 17 games. He was a Pro Bowler the third time in his career and finished 11th in the NFL Offensive Player of the Year voting at the Associated Press. Among the players helping present Jacobs on the list are Bijan Robinson and Xavier McKinney: From NFL Pro: "Josh Jacobs gained 893 yards and scored 10 times on carries directed between the tackles this season, both of which are the most among running backs. Of those 893 yards, 686 of them came after contact, more than the total rushing yards of all but five other players on carries directed between the tackles." Jacobs wasn't ranked last year after an injury-plagued 2023 season with the Las Vegas Raiders. He peaked at No. 12 on the list after he led the NFL in rushing yards (1,683) in 2022. It's likely Jacobs isn't the final Packer on the list. McKinney, an All-Pro at safety during his first season in Green Bay, still hasn't been announced.

Former New York Jets Star Could Get Traded

A new season is afoot for the New York Jets after they overhauled the front office and coaching staff. Yet, when new decision-makers are put in charge, it generally leads to a significant amount of roster turnover. We've already seen some forms of that, like with the introduction of new starting quarterback Justin Fields. Yet, other changes take longer to take effect. Some could even happen throughout the course of the season. According to Sportskeeda's NFL expert Tony Pauline, the next Jets transaction could even involve trading starting running back Breece Hall. Pauline's sources suggest the Jets may very well be willing to trade the former second-round pick before the NFL trade deadline in November. If so, it would mean a significant increase in opportunity for second-year runner Braelon Allen, plus Isaiah Davis. Should the Jets trade Hall, it could mean they later land another running back in the 2026 NFL Draft to keep the cycle going. 'People close to the situation speculate that the Jets could move Hall by the trade deadline, then move forward with Braelon Allen, as well as Isaiah Davis and eventually draft a running back in 2026,' Pauline wrote. 'Davis, a favorite of this coaching staff, has been more than serviceable as a rotational back.' Pauline adds that the Jets could also move on from former third-round tight end Jeremy Ruckert, who hasn't developed the way the previous regime hoped for. Now that new Jets general manager Darren Mougey drafted tight end Mason Taylor in the second round, Ruckert's days in New York could be coming to an end.
