Ex-Pakistan Star Hopes India "Refuse" To Play His Team In Asia Cup 2025: ' Itna Bura Maarenge... '

Former Pakistan batter Basit Ali doesn't want India to play them during the upcoming Asia Cup 2025. India and Pakistan could face each other as many as three times if both the teams reach the final. India and Pakistan will square off on September 14 in Dubai and one more time, potentially on September 21, at the same venue. With Pakistan slumping to a record-breaking 202-run loss against West Indies in the third and final ODI earlier this week, Basit hoped that the BCCI refuses to play the match, saying it would spare Pakistan an on-field humiliation. "I pray India refuse to play against Pakistan in the Asia Cup, just like how they did at the World Championships of Legends. Itni buri tarah maarenge na vo, ki aapki soch hai (They will beat us so badly you can't even imagine)," Basit said on The Game Plan YouTube channel. Basit also pointed that a loss to India would spark nationwide outrage in Pakistan, since national pride is always on the line whenever the two sides face off. "If we lose to Afghanistan, no one would care much in this country. But everyone goes mad the moment you lose to India," he added. India recently backed out of not one, but two matches during the World Championship of Legends (WCL). The likes of Shikhar Dhawan, Yuvraj Singh, Irfan Pathan, etc. refused to play against Pakistan in the WCL, triggering a big debate on social media. However, shortly afterwards, the Asia Cup 2025 schedule was announced, with India and Pakistan drawn in the same group. India and Pakistan have been at loggerheads ever since the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir's Pahalgam in April, in which 26 people, mostly civilians, were killed. As a result, the cricketing relations between the two countries have also nose-dived ever since. India will play its Group A games against UAE and the high-stakes clash against Pakistan at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 10 and 14 respectively, while its clash against Oman is slated to happen at the Sheikh Zayed Cricket Stadium in Abu Dhabi on September 19.

I'm just as surprised as anyone when I get a wicket: Maxwell

In the second T20I between Australia and South Africa, Glenn Maxwell took on an unusual role — bowling inside the PowerPlay. Between the 2022 T20 World Cup and this series, he had bowled only five PowerPlay overs in T20Is. So when he dismissed South Africa captain Aiden Markram, the spin-bowling all-rounder reacted animatedly. By his own admission, Maxwell is just as surprised as anyone when he gets a wicket. 'I love getting wickets.' Maxwell told 'It's very surprising anytime I get anyone out. I'm there to do a job in the PowerPlay and I'm trying to execute that as well as I can.' With an eye on the 2026 T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka, Maxwell is looking to build his experience bowling under fielding restrictions. 'I think in the subcontinent you might be able to get a little bit more out of it as a spinner early on,' Maxwell, who has 49 T20I wickets, said. 'Especially that new ball, the hard seam, being able to grip on those dry surfaces. So it might be something we think about head forward,' he added. Maxwell has also spent most of his career shuffling through batting positions, adapting to team needs — whether taking on a favourable matchup or finishing the innings. 'I've been a bit of the shuffler around the order, up and down,' the 36-year-old said. 'I'm filling holes at the moment.' 'Even during the West Indies series, trying to combat Akeal Hosein (by) going up the top, this series going a little bit lower, trying to manage that back end (of the innings). (I'm) trying to play whatever role is needed for me in this side and just try and be as adaptable as possible,' Maxwell said.

'Let Babar Azam, Rizwan just do ads': Pakistan duo humiliated as ex-captain told not to 'act bigger than the game'

Pakistan suffered a humiliating batting collapse in the ODI series decider against the West Indies at Tarouba, managing only 92 runs while chasing a formidable 295. After securing a strong start to the series with a five-wicket win in the opener, Mohammad Rizwan's side crumbled spectacularly in the second match and capitulated entirely in the decider, leaving fans stunned. (L/R) Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan of Pakistan celebrate the dismissal of Shai Hope of West Indies during the second One Day International (ODI) cricket match between West Indies and Pakistan(AFP) The top order fell apart almost immediately, with openers Saim Ayub, Abdullah Shafique, and captain Rizwan all dismissed for ducks within the first three overs. Babar Azam failed to anchor the innings, departing for a mere 9, while Salman Agha offered minimal resistance, top-scoring with just 30. While all players bore the brunt in brutal post-match analysis, the duo of Mohammad Rizwan and Babar Azam were specifically criticised for their non-performance. Babar showed promising signs of a return to form with an impressive 47 in the first ODI, but faltered with a duck in the second game. Another single-digit score in the third ODI meant that his overall series performance remained inconsistent, leaving Pakistan without the steady batting anchor they desperately needed. While Rizwan did score a half-century, he, too, failed to make a mark later in the series, with scores of 16 and 0. Following the series defeat, Basit Ali, the former Pakistan cricketer, didn't mince his words as he hammered the two players. 'They're living up to the performances they did during the beginning of their careers. Ab inse bas advertisements kara lo (Let them just do ads now),' Basit said on The Game Plan. 'They don't listen to the coaches. Whatever the batting coaches say, they just keep pretending to listen to them. They need someone who can give them a wake-up call, like Inzamam, Yousuf or a Younis Khan. And they know there's no one who would do that, because they didn't let anyone do it before.' Kamran's criticism Basit went on to claim that Babar needs to keep his ego aside, and while Kamran Akmal, the former Pakistan player who is also Babar's first cousin, defended the Pakistan star's values off the field, he advised Babar to have a more balanced approach to the game. 'I can guarantee that I haven't seen ego in him. He respects his family and meets everyone respectfully. But what I want from him is, when he enters the field, he doesn't act bigger than the game. Prioritise Pakistan. The investments he made in some players during his tenure as Pakistan captain didn't favour the country, too,' said Akmal.
