Another ex-Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali, meanwhile, congratulated Congress' Rahul Gandhi in advance, expecting the recent military showdown between India and Pakistan to cost Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his party – the Bharatiya Janata Party in the next General Election. Akmal says 'Indians should worry about economy' 'We've gone on a number of tours. India is a country of wonderful people. One person is putting the entire country on the line for his politics. People have to decide what's better for India, how the country will be run, how to keep the economy stable and how to build relations,' Akmal said in a show hosted by news anchor Waseem Badami on ARY News, where Basit was also a panelist. 'The future of a billion people is in the hands of one foolish person and he's playing with everyone,' presenter Badami said in response to Akmal's comment. STORY CONTINUES BELOW THIS AD 'Congratulations to Rahul Gandhi in advance,' Basit added. The comments came nearly a week after India and Pakistan agreed to a ceasefire after more than three days of hostilities, during which the Indian armed forces carried out precision strikes at several terror camps and air bases besides targeting the air defence and radar system. Pakistan, on the other hand, had resorted to indiscriminate firing at civilian areas in Jammu and Kashmir and other states that share a border with Pakistan. The Pakistan military claimed to have downed several Indian fighter jets the Rafale jets that New Delhi had recently acquired and caused significant damage to the Indian air force bases in Udhampur and Nagrota. While Islamabad is yet to furnish proof of destroying Indian fighter jets the way New Delhi has been providing satellite images to highlight the damage caused to Pakistan Air Force bases including the Nur Khan base in Rawalpindi, India has completely debunked claims of their air bases being damaged.

'Stay out of it,' advises Kamran Akmal to Babar Azam's father
Former Pakistan wicketkeeper-batter Kamran Akmal has weighed in on Azam Siddique's recent criticism of former cricketers, advising that family members should refrain from making public statements regarding a player's career. Siddique, the father of Pakistan batter Babar Azam, had taken to Instagram to express his frustration over criticism directed at his son following a disappointing Champions Trophy 2025 campaign. His post came a day after Babar was omitted from Pakistan's T20I squad for the tour of New Zealand. 'Despite being part of the ICC's T20 Team of the Year, he was dropped. It's fine; he will perform in the National T20 and PSL. Insha Allah, he will make a comeback,' Siddique wrote. He also took aim at former cricketers for their remarks about Babar's form. 'They are very big former players, but they should choose their words wisely. If someone responds, they may not tolerate it. You are the past, and that door will never open,' he added. Kamran Akmal, speaking on the matter, advised that players' families should refrain from public statements. 'I went through a tough time in my career. I understood everyone but told my father and brothers that it wasn't their job to respond or speak on my behalf. Every player's family should follow this policy,' Akmal said. The former wicketkeeper-batter also criticised public statements against the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). 'I don't think it is appropriate to speak against the institution,' he added.
