Ben Doak transfer on Leeds United agenda as Liverpool 'name price' for Scotland star
The EPL new boys are the latest club to show an interest with a host of top flight rivals linked previously. Ben Doak has been discussed by Leeds United as a potential winger target this summer. The Scotland international - who has returned from a thigh injury that ruled him out for an extended period - has attracted interest from a number of English top flight sides in recent times including the likes of Crystal Palace and Everton. The Athletic report the Elland Road outfit are pursuing new recruits for a number of key positions all over the park including wingers and Doak is one that they've expressed an interest in. Liverpool have previously booted out offers in the £20million region but the same publication state he is valued around that figure now. They are also said to be happy to keep him as a squad option with EPL, Champions League and domestic cup duty on the busy schedule if an offer doesn't meet that price range. Doak has become a full Scotland international and is one the Tartan Army hold out major high hopes for. He's one of the players in Steve Clarke's squad that can get bums off seats and he along with all those in Dark Blue will be desperate to see him playing regular first team football with the World Cup qualifiers on the horizon. Scott McTominay - named in the 30-man shortlist for the Ballon d'Or - and his international colleagues travel to Denmark and Belarus in an away day double-header next month to kick off the bid to reach the finals. Old foes Greece are the final team in the four group section as Clarke looks to replicate his Euros qualification success for the biggest competition in the world. Last season while out on loan at Middlesbrough, Doak played 27 times before suffering his season ending injury. He provided three goals and seven assists across his time at the Riverside Stadium. Motherwell boss expects Lennon Miller to be in the frame to face St Mirren
Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou insists Lennon Miller is preparing to face St Mirren amid continued transfer intrigue over the 18-year-old's future. Several Serie A clubs have been linked with the midfielder, who has attracted bids in January and the summer. Bologna are the favourites to beat the likes of Fiorentina, Udinese and Torino to his signature, according to reports in Italy. But the Scotland international continued to train with Motherwell on Thursday after recovering from a minor pre-season injury. Askou said: 'There's nothing finalised, nothing registered, he's still a Motherwell player and he's preparing for the game on Saturday. 'He's got a full week of training under his belt now, which he hasn't had since he had his little injury and his little setback. 'That's positive, so he looks ready, he looks fresh, and he looks sharp, as always. A fantastic football player, so we're happy to have him back on the pitch.' Motherwell had bad news on the injury front this week with loan striker Eseosa Sule going back to West Brom for treatment. Askou could not elaborate on the nature and extent of the 19-year-old's fitness issue. 'We're still in a period of assessing exactly how long and what's the specific treatment that he needs,' he said. 'Obviously it's a big blow for him and for us. I'm very sad on his behalf and on our behalf, because he was looking really good and we were really happy with the progress he's made and the impression he's made here in his first couple of weeks.' The loss of Sule intensifies Motherwell's need for attacking reinforcements, with Apostolos Stamatelopoulos the only experienced and fit centre-forward in the squad. The Australian missed most of his first season at Fir Park through injury but got off the mark in the Premier Sports Cup after six months out and got into good positions in Saturday's 1-1 draw against Rangers. 'He's worked hard in pre-season and he's looked good, he's looked better and better,' Askou said. 'He's come from a season where he had a lot of problems that set him back, but he's really looked good. I'm pretty confident that if we keep him fit throughout the season, that he will be a very decisive player for us.' Askou added: 'Obviously we are one down, who is a specific nine, which means that the guys who are left will have to do the job until he's back. We also have other players who can cover that position.' Scotland's Scott McTominay included in Ballon D'Or shortlist after title win
Scotland star Scott McTominay has been included on the shortlist for the prestigious Ballon D'Or award. The 28-year-old midfielder makes the 30-man list after an impressive season in Italy where he helped Napoli win the Serie A title. He is the first Scottish men's player to make the list since Rangers legend Ally McCoist, who finished 21st in 1987. The Ballon D'Or, which has been running since 1956, recognises the best players in world football and has been won by top stars including Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo and Zinedine Zidane. Denis Law remains the only Scotsman to win the award after his triumph in 1964, with Celtic legend Jimmy Johnstone earning the highest placing for a player playing in Scotland with his third-place finish in 1967. The last player to be nominated while playing in the Scottish Premiership was Japan international Shunsuke Nakamura in 2007. McTominay, who has 61 Scotland caps, joined Napoli from Manchester United for around £25m a year ago. In his debut season in Naples he scored 12 goals as they won the Scudetto for a fourth time and was named the leagues Most Valuable Player. He is joined on this year's shortlist by the likes of England captain Harry Kane, Real Madrid star Kylian Mbappe and Liverpool's Mohammed Salah. Meanwhile Scotland and Real Madrid player Caroline Weir has been included in the shortlist for the Women's Ballon D'Or. She is joined by England's Euro 2025 winning stars Leah Williamson, Chloe Kelly, Lucy Bronze, Alessia Russo and Hannah Hampton.
