Make supermarket savings on staple items by shopping in certain aisle

A thrifty shopper has explained how you can get more for your money using her 'genius supermarket hack' in one particular aisle next time you do your weekly shop
With the cost of our weekly supermarket shop seemingly going up and up, a thrifty shopper has revealed a "genius hack" she claims will save you money next time you are at the checkout. Caroline Butler took to TikTok to outline her money saving advice, explaining which aisle you should head to if you want to cut costs.

"This is one of the best supermarket hacks to save you money and I don't think many people know about it," she began in a video. Caroline headed to the seasoning section in her local Tesco, where she pointed out that at "£1 a pop", the various herbs and spices might not seem particularly expensive. However, there's a way of reducing your expenditure on those important ingredients.

Caroline continued, noting basil, garlic salt and tarragon as examples. "If you look at the 'per 10g' price, they are actually quite pricey," she said, pointing out that the latter costs £1.43 per 10g.
"Look here at the bay leaves - they are £3.33 per 10g," she added, before detailing her trick.
"Instead go to the world food aisle, where you find cinnamon sticks for 13p per 10g - as opposed to in the other aisle where they are 83p per 10g!"

In another example, Caroline noted that a large packet of garam masala in the world food aisle is sold by Tesco at 11.7p per 10g, while in the seasoning section it will set you back 26.3g per 10g.
The same applies to turmeric at 11.7p per 10g in packets found amongst the world foods, while its counterpart in the seasoning section costs almost double the price at 22.2p per 10g.
Caroline closed with a fourth and final example. "Chilli powder is 11.7p per 10g but in the other aisle it is £20 per kg [20p per 10g]!"

"I get that these little [seasoning] pots are easy to store, but keep the old pots you have," she urged. "Then refill them with those cheaper bags from the world food aisle."
Agreeing with the advice, one TikTok user penned in response: "I buy spices from the Asian section and fill little jars or empty jam jars."
A second praised: "Very good tip, thank you." Whilst a third added: "That's a jolly good tip! And earning cashback on all your shopping too is another tip."
Others, however, stressed the importance of convenience over value for money. "If you don't use much it don't last they go stale so false economy, I prefer the smaller pots to stack in my cupboard," one individual explained.
Another TikTok user detailed another alternative: "In my town we have a loose shop selling everything and you can buy as little or as much as you want and take your own containers."
Whilst someone else concurred: "I get all my herbs and spices from the international grocer. Always much much cheaper."

Three savvy ways to save cash by cutting food waste

BUSY lives and the demands of running a household can make it easy to lose track of what is in our fridge. Yet, the average UK family bins around £470-worth of food every year, according to charity Friends Of The Earth. If you're looking to save some cash, try cutting down on food waste with some of these tips. . . USE-UP DAY: Try allocating one day of the week to using up food that's in your fridge. Ideally you should pick the day just before you do a weekly shop and an evening that you're usually at home. Pick out the food that needs to be used and team it with food from your freezer or cupboards. Make it fun by setting a challenge and getting your kids or partner involved too. Set the challenge of who can come up with the most creative dish? Tesco has a recipe-finder tool where you can enter three ingredients that need using up and it will match them with a dish to make. PLAN MEALS: Work out what you're going to eat before you shop for the week, so you don't buy food that you don't need or won't have time to eat. Try buying fruit and veg loose to avoid buying more than needed. For example, a handful of potatoes or carrots for the meal you planned rather than the big bag that you don't need. Forget bubble and squeak I make the best left over roast dinner pie- Make sure you're storing your fresh food to keep it at its best for longer, giving you more time to eat it. Popping most fruit and veg in the fridge, except bananas, will make them last longer. FREEZER FRIENDS: If you cook more food than needed, consider popping it in the freezer for another day. Make sure all cooked food is cool before you freeze it and divide it into portions. Label and date food when you put it in the freezer, so you know how long it's been in there. It's not just leftovers that can be frozen — any food that you haven't got around to eating such as bread, milk and bananas can also go in the freezer. Woman kicked out of Hilton hotel breakfast for 'inappropriate' outfit choice

A woman claimed that she was told she couldn't eat breakfast at her hotel's buffet because her outfit was 'inappropriate,' but she said she thought it was fine. A woman has claimed she was chucked out of a Hilton hotel breakfast buffet for wearing an "inappropriate" outfit. ‌ Saffron, who shares videos on TikTok under @saffronmariexx, had popped downstairs around 7.30am wearing what she described as a matching satin-look pyjama set and flip-flops. ‌ In another video, she explained that she was staying in the hotel for some "self-care," but she was stunned when she was turned away from the breakfast buffet due to dressing "inappropriately", reports the Mirror. ‌ She said: "When I got there, I was told I was dressed inappropriately." She slammed the decision as "absolutely ridiculous" and insisted she looked "cuter than everyone there". Determined to get her breakfast, the influencer "quickly got changed". But admitted her shorts were shorter in the second outfit she wore. Join the Daily Record WhatsApp community! In a video explaining the situation, she laughed: "The second outfit was actually worse than the first one." In the comments, people were left asking: "Why would you wear pyjamas to breakfast?" Someone wrote: "Nowhere allows it due to upholding a certain look. Some places even turn you away for wearing sliders." ‌ Another wasn't impressed by Saffron's behaviour, writing: "You get dressed to go to a restaurant." A fourth argued: "It's a luxury hotel, so they have high standards, and wearing PJS is a no-no." Some even accused Saffron of being "lazy and entitled" and told her to "have some dignity" rather than going out in the clothes she'd slept in all night. ‌ Other people defended Saffron, though. One said: "I don't get why people are saying 'why would you wear pajamas' it's legit a breakfast in a hotel". Another agreed: "It makes no sense that hotels frown upon it, you're still dressed." ‌ While it's unclear which Hilton branch Saffron was staying at, dress codes vary across locations, though most follow a smart-casual vibe. That usually means polished but relaxed looks. For women, a simple dress or blouse with trousers will do. For men, it's chinos and a shirt, blazers optional, ties not required. Based on this, it would be safe to assume that breakfast had a more 'casual' vibe as Saffron was allowed to wear shorts, but pyjamas are frowned upon.
