NCAA confirms Connor Stalions disguised, scouted MSU-CMU game in 2023
The long believed disguised Stalions on the Chippewas' sidelines during a game against Michigan State was confirmed by the NCAA on Friday. The NCAA revealed their findings and punishment for the Michigan "sign stealing" investigation on Friday, with the note on the Stalions-Chippewas piece being included in the report.
According to a post from Chris Vannini of The Athletic, the NCAA confirmed Stalions did attend the Michigan State-Central Michigan game on the Chippewas' sideline. Stalions was there to "in part to decipher Michigan State's signals, but also to help a Central Michigan staff member with play calling."
This game between the Spartans and Chippewas took place as the season-opener for the 2023 season. Michigan State beat Central Michigan in the contest by the final score of 31-7.
It was always believed that Stalions was in disguise for that game when his picture circulated social media. But now, we have official confirmation of that foul play occurring.
Michigan State football is next set to play Central Michigan in 2027. It'll be interesting to see if this investigation will at all change that agreement or if things will simply just go away with this chapter in a weird story now closed.

Rams troll Jim Harbaugh over Michigan scandal on social media, 'sign-ing off' after preseason win over Chargers
The past week wasn't a good one for Jim Harbaugh, and the Los Angeles Rams rubbed it in with a trolling social media post. The Los Angeles Chargers head coach had his reputation and integrity, along with Michigan's 2023 national championship season, stained by being named in the NCAA Committee on Infractions report that penalized the football program for an advance scouting scheme in which assistant Connor Stalions recorded play signals from the sideline of upcoming opponents. Then the Chargers lost a preseason game to the Rams on Saturday, 23-22, when, with five seconds remaining, Stetson Bennett IV threw an 8-yard touchdown pass to Tru Edwards. The Chargers also lost receiver Quentin Johnston to a concussion during the game. The post on X said "Sign-ing off" with an image of the Rams' mascot holding up a sign that read "Hail to the Victors," which is a famous tagline at Michigan and the lyrics of the school's fight song. Ouch. Those Rams horns aren't just hard, but also sharp. As part of the sanctions levied against the Michigan program by the NCAA, Harbaugh was issued a 10-year show-cause penalty — on top of a four-year punishment he received in 2024 — which effectively ends any possibility of him returning to coach college football with a virtual ban that lasts until 2038. From Yahoo Sports' Nick Bromberg: "Overall, the show-cause penalties mean that any school that looks to hire Harbaugh over the next 13 years must go in front of the NCAA and justify how his hiring won't lead to any other broken NCAA rules and the governing body has the right to stop the hire." Asked about the NCAA penalties after the Chargers' defeat, Harbaugh told reporters, "I'm not engaging." 'Like I said to you last year, I'm not engaging,' he said. Harbaugh left Michigan after the 2023-24 season and the Wolverines' national championship to take the head-coaching position with the Chargers. He reportedly agreed to a five-year contract paying him an annual salary of $16 million. In his first season with the Chargers, Harbaugh went 11-6, turning the team around from a 5-11 record the previous year.

No decision made on Notre Dame's starting quarterback as regular season nears

Why 2025 is a season of intrigue for Florida football quarterback DJ Lagway
Florida football finally broke out of its multi-season slump last fall thanks in large part to the efforts of then-true-freshman quarterback DJ Lagway, who led the Gators to their first bowl victory since 2019 as well as an 8-5 finish overall. Suffice it to say, Lagway's heroics ostensibly saved Billy Napier his job. However, while the pressure has lessened a tad on the head coach's hot seat, the Orange and Blue have high expectations this year while facing what is arguably the toughest schedule among FBS teams. Napier has put his full trust in his sophomore gunslinger despite some injury concerns during the preseason. "This guy's got a lot of ceiling," Florida's skipper offers. "There's a lot there, fundamentally and overall football knowledge. The impressive thing about him is the mental makeup, the humility. He just shifts into this competitor. He goes to a different space as a competitor. It's not too big for him." With that said, ESPN college football reporter Chris Low recently took on the task of evaluating the intriguing aspects of all the Southeastern Conference's 16 starting quarterbacks, offering up the following for Lagway. The intrigue behind DJ Lagway "As a freshman this past season, Lagway had moments when he was everything everybody thought he would be when he came out of Willis, Texas, as a five-star recruit. He's got a great arm, ideal size (6-3, 247 pounds) and the awareness and escapability in the pocket to extend plays," Low begins. "Lagway wasn't the Gators' full-time starter until the last part of the season, after Graham Mertz tore his left ACL in the third quarter of a 23-17 overtime loss to Tennessee. It was in that game that Lagway showed his vast potential in a very hostile road environment. His 27-yard touchdown pass on third-and-19 to Chimere Dike with 29 seconds remaining tied the game before the Vols won in overtime," he continues. "Lagway had 12 completions of 40 yards or longer this past season and was 6-1 as a starter, helping lead the Gators to four straight wins to close the season." DJ Lagway's path to success "The lingering question with Lagway is his durability and whether he can stay healthy. He battled an injury to his throwing shoulder in the spring and was limited. Most recently, a strained left calf held him back. He didn't participate in the Gators' first scrimmage, but according to insiders, has continued to throw regularly and looked good," Low offers. "He also missed a game and a half this past season with a hamstring injury. Lagway also put the ball in some dangerous spots at times, but what freshman doesn't? The bottom line is if he stays healthy, he has greatness written all over him."
