Better Artificial Intelligence Stock: BigBear.ai vs. C3.ai
Nations are ramping up artificial intelligence capabilities, and the U.S. is determined to lead the world in AI.
BigBear.ai and C3.ai are helping the U.S. government with its AI goals.
Though both BigBear.ai and C3.ai are experiencing year-over-year sales growth, neither company is profitable.
10 stocks we like better than BigBear.ai ›
Nations are rushing to embrace artificial intelligence (AI), and for good reason. As Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang explained, "Countries around the world are recognizing AI as essential infrastructure -- just like electricity and the internet."
The Trump administration has signaled that the U.S. intends to lead the world in AI. Two businesses helping the government achieve this goal are BigBear.ai (NYSE: BBAI) and C3.ai (NYSE: AI).
Both companies have delivered AI solutions to the likes of the U.S. Army and Department of Defense. But if you had to choose between the two, which stock is the better AI investment for the long haul? Here's a look at each business to answer that question.
BigBear.ai delivers various AI solutions that focus on national security and infrastructure. For example, it provides facial recognition software to many airports to screen passengers for security risks, and it's helping the U.S. Navy construct submarines with its AI-enhanced shipbuilding software.
BigBear.ai's business delivered $34.8 million in the first quarter, a 5% year-over-year increase. It also benefited from the exercise of 2024 warrants to the tune of $64.7 million in gross proceeds.
The company experienced leadership changes this year. Its CFO departed in June, and it gained a new CEO, Kevin McAleenan, in January. McAleenan served as Acting Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security during the first Trump administration, so his experience could prove beneficial to BigBear.ai's government business.
That said, the company faces some challenges. BigBear.ai is not profitable. Its Q1 net loss totaled $62 million, as some of its operating expenses increased year over year.
BigBear.ai also possesses substantial debt. Its Q1 total liabilities of $198.5 million included long-term debt of $100.6 million, and that was after the amount was reduced by $58 million through voluntary conversions of its 2029 convertible notes. Q1 assets totaled $396.3 million.
C3.ai offers ready-made and custom AI solutions. Government customers include the U.S. Air Force, the Marine Corps, and the National Science Foundation. It also boasts a sizable non-government business with clients such as ExxonMobil and Dow.
The company leverages partnerships to expand its sales reach. Partners closed 193 agreements in C3.ai's 2025 fiscal year, ended April 30. This represented 68% year-over-year growth and 73% of total agreements.
As a result, C3.ai sales rose 25% year over year to $389.1 million in fiscal 2025. The company anticipates that its 2026 fiscal year will kick off with at least $100 million in Q1 sales, which would represent 15% year-over-year growth compared to the prior year's $87.2 million.
Like BigBear.ai, C3.ai is not profitable. It ended the 2025 fiscal year with a net loss of $288.7 million. However, its balance sheet was healthy. Fiscal Q4 assets totaled $1 billion, while total liabilities were $187.6 million.
Although both companies saw sales growth to start the year, the rest of 2025 could be a different story. The U.S. government is cutting budgets.
The budget cuts could be damaging to BigBear.ai's business. The company stated: "The majority of our revenue is derived from federal government contracts."
The picture is different with C3.ai. Its federal government bookings represented 26% of the total for its 2025 fiscal year. Consequently, while budget cuts could hurt C3.ai, their effect on its business would be less than their effects on BigBear.ai.
C3.ai's diversified revenue is a plus over BigBear.ai, but in deciding which is the better investment, another factor to look at is share price valuation. This can be determined with a review of each company's price-to-sales (P/S) ratio, which measures how much investors are willing to pay for every dollar of revenue.
As the chart shows, both businesses possess P/S multiples that are far more reasonable now compared to their peaks over the past year. For comparison, AI leader Nvidia's P/S ratio is 24 as of June 18, which indicates that BigBear.ai and C3.ai shares are attractively priced.
That said, BigBear.ai's P/S ratio remains higher than it was a year ago, while C3.ai is lower. This suggests that C3.ai stock is a good value, while its AI rival isn't the bargain it was in 2024.
When stacked against BigBear.ai, C3.ai's compelling valuation, superior sales growth, and strong balance sheet make it the better artificial intelligence investment for the long term.

Supermicro Announces Proposed Offering of $2.0 Billion of Convertible Senior Notes due 2030
SAN JOSE, Calif., June 23, 2025--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Super Micro Computer, Inc. (NASDAQ: SMCI) ("Supermicro" or the "Company"), a Total IT Solution Manufacturer for AI, Cloud, Storage, and 5G/Edge, today announced that it intends to offer, subject to market conditions and other factors, $2.0 billion aggregate principal amount of convertible senior notes due 2030 (the "Convertible Notes"). The Convertible Notes are to be offered and sold to persons reasonably believed to be "qualified institutional buyers" pursuant to Rule 144A under the Securities Act of 1933, as amended (the "Securities Act"). The Company also expects to grant an option to the initial purchasers to purchase up to an additional $300.0 million aggregate principal amount of the Convertible Notes within a 13-day period from, and including, the date the Convertible Notes are first issued. The Convertible Notes will be senior, unsecured obligations of the Company and will accrue interest payable semi-annually in arrears. The Convertible Notes will mature on June 15, 2030, unless earlier redeemed, repurchased or converted in accordance with their terms prior to such date. Prior to the close of business on the business day immediately preceding December 17, 2029, the Convertible Notes will be convertible only upon the satisfaction of certain conditions and during certain periods, and on and after December 17, 2029, at any time prior to the close of business on the second scheduled trading day immediately preceding the maturity date, the Convertible Notes will be convertible regardless of these conditions. The Company will settle conversions by paying or delivering, as applicable, cash, shares of the Company's common stock or a combination of cash and shares of the Company's common stock at the Company's election. The initial conversion rate, interest rate and other terms of the Convertible Notes will be determined at the time of pricing in negotiations with the initial purchasers of the Convertible Notes. In connection with the pricing of the Convertible Notes, the Company expects to enter into privately negotiated capped call transactions with one or more financial institutions which may include one or more of the initial purchasers or their affiliates (the "option counterparties"). If the initial purchasers exercise their option to purchase additional Convertible Notes, the Company expects to enter into additional capped call transactions with the option counterparties. The capped call transactions are expected generally to reduce the potential dilution to the Company's common stock upon conversion of the Convertible Notes and/or offset any potential cash payments the Company is required to make in excess of the principal amount of the Convertible Notes, as the case may be, with such reduction and/or offset subject to a cap. In connection with establishing their initial hedges of the capped call transactions, the option counterparties or their respective affiliates expect to enter into various derivative transactions with respect to the Company's common stock and/or purchase shares of the Company's common stock concurrently with or shortly after the pricing of the Convertible Notes. This activity could increase (or reduce the size of any decrease in) the market price of the Company's common stock or the Convertible Notes at that time. In addition, the option counterparties or their respective affiliates may modify their hedge positions by entering into or unwinding various derivatives with respect to the Company's common stock and/or purchasing or selling the Company's common stock or other securities of the Company in secondary market transactions following the pricing of the Convertible Notes and prior to the maturity of the Convertible Notes (and are likely to do so during any observation period related to a conversion of the Convertible Notes or following any repurchase of the Convertible Notes by the Company to the extent the Company elects to unwind a corresponding portion of the capped call transactions in connection with such repurchase). This activity could also cause or avoid an increase or a decrease in the market price of the Company's common stock or the Convertible Notes, which could affect noteholders' ability to convert the Convertible Notes, and, to the extent the activity occurs during any observation period related to a conversion of the Convertible Notes, it could affect the amount and value of the consideration that noteholders will receive upon conversion of the Convertible Notes. The Company expects to use a portion of net proceeds of the offering to fund the cost of entering into the capped call transactions. The Company intends to use up to $200.0 million of the net proceeds to repurchase shares of its common stock from purchasers of the Convertible Notes concurrently with the pricing of the offering in privately negotiated transactions effected through one of the initial purchasers of the Convertible Notes or its affiliate, as the Company's agent. The Company intends to use the remainder of the net proceeds from the offering for general corporate purposes, including to fund working capital for growth and business expansion. If the initial purchasers exercise their option to purchase additional Convertible Notes, the Company intends to use a portion of the net proceeds from the sale of additional Convertible Notes to fund the cost of entering into additional capped call transactions. This press release is neither an offer to sell nor a solicitation of an offer to buy the Convertible Notes or the shares of the Company's common stock issuable upon conversion of the Convertible Notes, if any, nor shall there be any sale of these securities in any state or jurisdiction in which such an offer, solicitation or sale would be unlawful prior to the registration or qualification under the securities laws of any such state or jurisdiction. Any offer of these securities will be made only by means of a private offering memorandum. The offer and sale of the Convertible Notes and the shares of the Company's common stock issuable upon conversion of the Convertible Notes, if any, have not been registered under the Securities Act, or the securities laws of any other jurisdiction, and may not be offered or sold in the United States absent registration or an applicable exemption from registration requirements. Cautionary Statement Regarding Forward-Looking Statements This press release includes forward-looking statements within the meaning of Section 27A of the Securities Act and Section 21E of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended. Such forward-looking statements include, among other things, the anticipated terms of the Convertible Notes and capped call confirmations, statements regarding the intended use of the net proceeds from the offering and the potential impact of anticipated transactions by holders of the Convertible Notes and the option counterparties on the Company's securities. These forward-looking statements are provided for illustrative purposes only and are not intended to serve as, and must not be relied on by any investor as, a guarantee, an assurance, a prediction or a definitive statement of fact or probability. Among those risks and uncertainties include, but are not limited to, the risks related to whether the Company will consummate the offering and enter into the capped call transactions on the expected terms or at all, the anticipated effects of holders of the Convertible Notes or the option counterparties entering into or unwinding derivative transactions with respect to the Company's common stock and/or purchasing or selling the Company's common stock, market and general conditions, and risks relating to the Company's business, including those described in periodic reports that the Company files from time to time with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Oil prices fall to over one-week lows as Trump announces Israel-Iran ceasefire
Oil prices tumbled on Tuesday to their lowest level in more than a week as U.S. President Donald Trump said a ceasefire has been agreed between Iran and Israel, relieving worries of supply disruption in the area. Brent crude futures fell $2.69 or 3.76% to $68.79 a barrel as of 0006 GMT, after falling more than 4% earlier in the session and touching its lowest level since June 11. U.S. West Texas Intermediate crude slumped $2.7, or 3.94%, to $65.46 per barrel, having hit its weakest level since June 9 earlier in the session and falling around 6%. Trump announced on Monday that Israel and Iran have fully agreed to a ceasefire, adding that Iran will begin the ceasefire immediately, followed by Israel after 12 hours. If both sides maintain peace, the war will officially end after 24 hours, concluding a 12-day conflict. He said that a "complete and total" ceasefire will go into force with a view to ending the conflict between the two nations. "With the ceasefire news we are now seeing a continuation of the risk premium built into crude oil price last week all but evaporate," said Tony Sycamore, analyst at IG. Iran is OPEC's third-largest crude producer, and the easing of tensions would allow it to export more oil and prevent supply disruptions, a major factor in oil prices jumping in recent days. Both the oil contracts settled over 7% lower in the previous session after rallying to five-month-highs after the U.S. attacked Iran's nuclear facilities over the weekend, stoking fears of a broadening in the Israel-Iran conflict. "Technically, the overnight sell-off reinforces a layer of resistance between approximately $78.40 (October 2024 and June 2025 highs) and $80.77 (the year-to-date high), and it's clear that it will take something extremely unexpected and detrimental to supply for crude oil to break through this layer of resistance," Sycamore added.

Gold at near 2-week low after Trump announces Israel-Iran ceasefire
Gold prices fell to a near two-week low on Tuesday as risk appetite improved after U.S. President Donald Trump said Iran and Israel had agreed to a ceasefire, denting demand for safe-haven assets. Spot gold was down 0.5% to $3,351.47 an ounce, as of 0257 GMT, after hitting its lowest level since June 11 earlier in the session. U.S. gold futures slipped 0.9% to $3,365.30. "It seems like there's a good bit of geopolitical risk that's exiting the market here near term after, of course, we have signs of de-escalation between the U.S. and Iran," said Ilya Spivak, head of global macro at Tastylive. Trump announced a complete ceasefire between Israel and Iran, potentially ending the 12-day conflict that saw millions flee Tehran and prompted fears of further escalation in the war-torn region. There was no immediate comment from Israel. While an Iranian official earlier confirmed that Tehran had agreed to a ceasefire, the country's foreign minister said there would be no cessation of hostilities unless Israel stopped its attacks. Global shares rallied, while oil prices slipped to a one-week low after Trump announced the Iran-Israel ceasefire. Meanwhile, U.S. Federal Reserve Vice Chair for Supervision Michelle Bowman said on Monday that the time to cut interest rates is approaching amid potential risks to the job market. Investors await testimony by Fed Chair Jerome Powell before the House Financial Services Committee later on Tuesday. Powell has been cautious about signaling near-term easing. "The bias for gold prices is higher, but we might see a correction in near-term and an uptick in the dollar if Powell convinces markets that they're not going to cut more than twice this year," Spivak said. Gold tends to thrive in a low-interest-rate environment. Elsewhere, spot silver eased 0.1% to $36.10 per ounce, platinum fell 0.2% to $1,292.39, while palladium slipped 0.4% to $1,073.05
