TORONTO - Substitute Oleksandr Zinchenko scored in the 75th minute to lift Ukraine to a 2-1 win over New Zealand on Tuesday at the Canadian Shield Tournament. As they did Saturday, the Ukrainian players came out with the Ukraine flag draped over their shoulders. Many of their supporters also brought flags. The Ukraine players, who have not played an international match at home since Russia invaded in February 2022, did a lap around the stadium after the final whistle to applaud their fans. 'Last night, Kyiv endured one of the most brutal attacks since the beginning of the full-scale invasion. In just a few days between two matches, Ukraine was hit 1,088 times by airstrikes,' the Ukrainian Association of Football said in a social media post during the first half. Celtic confirm Kieran Tierney signing on free transfer from Arsenal
Celtic have announced the signing of Kieran Tierney on a free transfer when his Arsenal contract expires at the end of this month. The left-back has signed a five-year deal with Celtic, having previously come through their academy before leaving for Arsenal in 2019. The Athletic reported the deal on January 30, adding that Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta wanted Tierney to spend the rest of the 2024-25 season with the club to provide defensive cover and experience. Days earlier, Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers had said the 28-year-old had 'definitely' agreed to re-join the Scottish champions. Having slipped down the pecking order, he spent the 2023-24 campaign on loan in Spain with Real Sociedad, making 20 La Liga appearances. Tierney has won four Scottish Premiership titles, plus two Scottish Cups and two Scottish League Cups. He worked with Rodgers at Celtic during the manager's first stint in charge from 2016-19.
