Short films created by Sean Connery Talent Lab to premiere at EIFF
Original James Bond star Sir Sean Connery, originally from Edinburgh, died in October 2020 aged 90.

His sons, Jason and Stephane, launched the Sean Connery Foundation to 'expand opportunities for talented young people from Scotland to access rewarding careers in the film industry'.
They said their father 'made it a priority to attend the Edinburgh Film Festival' and knew 'first-hand what it meant to work hard and struggle for opportunity'.
The films will be premiered between August 14 and 20.
Chris Young, head of the Sean Connery Talent Lab, praised the initiative as having the potential for 'expanding the film-making community here in Scotland'.
The films to be premiered are Gowk, directed by Ryan Pollock, Nora Can't Score, directed by Josefa Celestin, Catriona Macleod's Lady Maclean, and Twenty Twenty, from director Alex Salam.
Also included are Static, directed by Miranda Stern, and Checkout, from director Mairead Hamilton.
Paul Ridd, chief executive and director of the EIFF, said: 'We are so impressed by the depth and range of films that have emerged from the exciting first year of this brilliant initiative, one which, like our own centrepiece Festival Prize, has been made possible by The Sean Connery Foundation and their generous support for meaningful film industry change.
'Under the expert tutelage of Chris Young and the many industry experts who have given up their time this past year to offer advice and mentorship, these filmmakers have emerged with bold, distinctive work that we are honoured to include in our programme and present to our audiences in August.
'The future of cinema is bright in the hands of this exciting new generation of Scottish and Scotland-based talent.'

The Community Garden, with its blend of charm, productivity and environmental stewardship, stands as a shining example of how local dedication can transform a shared area into a thriving hub of pride, produce and connection for residents. As part of her visit, Ms Adamson met with Paul Lennon, director of Garrion People's Housing Co-operative, and Elaine Hyslop, housing manager, to discuss the evolving needs of the Gowkthrapple community. The discussion ranged from the social and economic challenges faced by local residents, to the Co-operative's vision for addressing these issues through housing improvements, community engagement, and social inclusion projects. The meeting also touched on cultural representation in the area, including the recent filming of Gowk by Ryan Pollock - a project rooted in the local community and now being screened at the Edinburgh International Film Festival. The MSP praised the film's role in capturing the spirit, history and resilience of the area. Garrion People's Housing Co-operative Ltd has been a key part of the Gowkthrapple story since 1991, following the transfer of housing stock from Motherwell District Council. Over the years, the Co-operative has delivered significant improvements, including three new housing developments - 1996, 1999, and 2009 - and a comprehensive refurbishment programme. In 2011, the opening of the CentrePoint Community Hub marked a major step forward, providing flexible meeting rooms, event spaces and offices that serve as the heartbeat of local activity. Today, the highly skilled team at CentrePoint supports both Forgewood and Garrion People's Housing Co-operatives, working closely with the management committee to deliver not just quality, affordable homes, but also a wide range of services and opportunities to bring people together, strengthen connections, and foster a more resilient neighbourhood. Speaking after her visit, Ms Adamson said: "It was inspiring to see how the CentrePoint Community Hub Garden is bringing people together and providing a space that's both beautiful and productive. "The passion and commitment of Garrion People's Housing Co-operative are clear to see - they are helping to shape a brighter future for this area. "I look forward to seeing how their plans for social inclusion, community empowerment, and local engagement continue to grow in the months ahead. "It's vital that communities like Gowkthrapple have the resources, facilities, and support they need to thrive. "Places such as CentrePoint show what's possible when local people are given the tools and encouragement to lead positive change. "I will continue to champion initiatives like this, which make a real and lasting difference to people's lives." Tonight (Thursday, August 14) will see the launch of this year's Edinburgh International Film Festival, with the UK premiere of highly-rated indie film 'Sorry, Baby' and the world premiere of Ben Wheatley's new movie 'Bulk'. BBC star could be first ginger Bond after ‘screen-testing for role'
An underdog in the race to cinch the role of James Bond has apparently already screen-tested for the role. Six years after Daniel Craig announced his retirement from the franchise, fans are wildly speculating who may take on the role of 007. Former favourite Idris Elba, 52, previously ruled himself out from playing the British spy, while other hotly tipped actors, including James Norton and Theo James, have not confirmed any involvement. The current front-runner to become Bond is Aaron Taylor-Johnson, while bookies have also given preferential odds to the likes of Henry Cavill, Jack Lowden, Tom Holland, and Callum Turner. But for the last couple of months, 37-year-old actor Scott Rose-Marsh, has been cropping up on betting sites, and new reports suggest he's taken one step further in the race. Sources told The Hollywood Reporter that the star screen-tested for the role sometime in late June. It was reported that he read sides from 1995's GoldenEye, presumably for director Denis Villeneuve, who became attached to the project in June. It was added that he was given just one piece of direction before testing: 'Don't impersonate a previous Bond.' The actor, who Betfred currently places in 12th place in the running with odds of 12/1, is a relative unknown compared to other candidates. He previously appeared in movies like Wolves of War and Code of Silence, but is otherwise a lesser-known film star. The announcement from Amazon MGM Studios that Denis Villeneuve will helm the next James Bond film is a dramatic move marking a creative shift for the 007 franchise, and signalling a new era for Britain's most iconic spy. The Canadian director, best known for directing Dune and Dune: Part Two, as well as Arrival, Blade Runner 2049, Sicario, and Prisoners, expressed reverence for the character. 'Some of my earliest movie-going memories are connected to 007,' he said in a statement released Wednesday. 'I grew up watching James Bond films with my father, ever since Dr. No with Sean Connery. I'm a die-hard Bond fan. To me, he's sacred territory.' While acknowledging the enormous expectations, Villeneuve said he intends to 'honour the tradition and open the path for many new missions to come.' He called the opportunity 'a massive responsibility, but also, incredibly exciting for me and a huge honour.' The announcement comes during a period of major upheaval behind the scenes of the Bond universe. More Trending Amazon Studios officially purchased MGM for $8.45billion (£6.7billion) in 2022, with a new agreement over creative control meaning Bond — and whoever is next to play 007 – is entirely under the streamer's control. It is a landmark decision as family-run Eon Productions has brought Bond to the big screen since the franchise began. After decades of tight creative control, producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson – heirs to the franchise through their father, original Bond producer Albert 'Cubby' Broccoli – have ceded key decision-making power to Amazon MGM Studios.
