Steven Gerrard's former assistant rejects chance to take on job in Turkey amid interest from clubs in England and the United States
Dean Holden has rejected the chance to become manager of Turkish side Adana Demirspor.
The 45-year old has been working as assistant coach with Adana but, following relegation from the top flight, the club hierarchy have asked if he wished to take over the main job of earning promotion back to Super Lig at the first attempt.
Holden, who was previously assistant to Steven Gerrard at Al Ettifaq, also has interest from other clubs in England and offers to coach in the MLS.
The former Manchester United trainee still has a year left on contract out in Turkey so is assessing his options.
Holden has introduced individual development plans at Adana Demirspor and spoken of big improvements in their young players.
'I felt that I could probably accelerate my learning far quicker coming here than going back to England,' said Holden about his experience in Turkey, where he has been living at the club's training ground. 'I wanted to put myself in the most challenging environment I could. Can it work in another language? Can I have an impact? You are working through a translator, so you have to be really concise and clear. It is all about finding a connection with a player.'
Holden has previously managed at Oldham Athletic, Bristol City, Stoke and Charlton Athletic.
On his time with Gerrard and Al Ettifaq, he said: 'Steven Gerrard sees the game differently, as his assistant I learned so much. He empowered me to be creative and come up with ideas, to challenge him. He's a really generous guy and I was grateful for the opportunity – I felt like I got five years of experience from him in a year.

Askou wants 'aggressive not passive' Motherwell
New Motherwell manager Jens Berthel Askou wants his players to be "aggressive".Former IFK Gothenburg boss Askou, 42, has replaced Michael Wimmer in the Fir Park dugout and his first games in charge will be in next month's League Cup first-round group will play Clyde, Peterhead, Stenhousemuir and Greenock Morton. Askou's first Scottish Premiership fixtures will be in early August."I'm here to make [the players'] dreams come true," said the Dane."I have to push them every day and teach them that they can actually do more than they think they can do. I think that's my most important job." And he added: "Managing style-wise, I believe in being aggressive, I believe in attacking. We attack the opponent if we have the ball or if we don't have the ball."I don't like passive football. I believe in taking the initiative and I want my players to express themselves on the pitch, to show some joy, some passion and respect for the game."Askou cited "the passion about football from the supporters" from his spell as a player with Norwich City from 2009-11 as he prepared to return to the UK."The passion also from the players, I really thrived on that because I am also very passionate about football and winning," he explained."I really hope to experience that again as a manager and a coach. That's something I work on, being good enough to go there and see what I can do with a British team."

Revealed: The 'most watched team in the Premier League last season' - despite 'declining viewing figures across TV broadcasters'
Man United were the most watched team in the Premier League last season - despite enduring their worst-ever campaign and a trend in declining viewing figures. Sky Sports and TNT Sports both recorded drops in average viewing figures after two record-breaking seasons - with Sky down 10 per cent - according to The Times. However, matches involving United - who are widely regarded as the most supported club in England - remained popular, defying the overall trend. One broadcast industry insider suggested that part of the club's enduring appeal last season may have been driven not just by loyal supporters, but also by rival fans tuning in to watch their struggles. Despite the team's disappointing form on the pitch, their ability to draw an audience highlights their ongoing commercial power and importance to broadcasters. Last season saw United finish 15th in the Premier League and fall to a 1-0 defeat against Tottenham in the final of the Europa League. The club faced mounting pressure both on and off the pitch, with injuries, inconsistent performances, and questions over the future of manager Erik ten Hag dominating headlines. In response, United have already moved aggressively in the transfer market this summer. The club this week agreed a £62.5million deal to sign Brazil international Matheus Cunha from Wolves, as part of a major squad overhaul aimed at reviving their fortunes. The 25-year-old forward is expected to add much-needed energy and versatility to United's attack, which struggled for goals throughout much of the campaign. On Friday, the Brazilian, who netted 33 times in 92 appearances for Wolves, sat down for his first interview since completing the move and shed light on how Amorim helped persuade him into joining the Red Devils. Speaking to the club website, Cunha said: 'I have a lot of faith in him. I hope he succeeds in conquering the world like he did in Portugal. 'I'm here to help the team and help him. All our discussions made my decision easier'. Speaking further on the 'dream' move, he said: 'Oh, it's like, honestly, it's hard to find the words to say about these moments. 'Maybe outside, I think maybe my decision, they don't understand. But when you have always dreamed to play here, it's easier to pick this decision. 'For me, no-one else is like United. Of course, I know it's been a hard season for everyone. I think my decision shows what this club is for me, and what I believe this club can be.' 'But, of course, it is, the most common phrase that you can say at this moment, is this is the dream come true.
