‘Secret' Verstappen Nurburgring GT3 test goes VIRAL
The Verstappen Nurburgring GT3 test took place as part of a regular Nurburgring Langstrecken Series (NLS) practice session. And it was reportedly part of a larger record-breaking effort around the fabled Nordschleife track. In a bid for the Verstappen Nurburgring GT3 test to avoid detection, the quadruple world champion drove under the pseudonym 'Franz Hermann.' Video: F1Unrivalled on YouTube
Verstappen's manager, Raymond Vermeulen, has a son who drives the Ferrari 296 GT3 car in various European championships. And it is understood Verstappen is something of a driver coach and mentor to the young dutchman.
Nevertheless, footage of the not-so-secret Verstappen Nurburging GT3 test has gone viral. Onboard and offboard footage shows the Verstappen.com Racing-branded car circulating at very high speed. There are even reports the 27-year-old set a new GT3 lap record around the treacherous racetrack.
A rumoured time of 7min 47sec is faster than the official GT3 lap record. However, Ralf Schumacher, whose son also competes in various GT3 series', believes Verstappen went even faster than that. 'I think he did a 7min 35sec lap, which is a really top time. It's really outstanding,' he said. Were Red Bull bosses happy to see their lead driver risking everything on his weekend off? Image: NLS
Another former F1 driver, Timo Glock, added: 'What I heard is that the first and second lap was already at the top level. He will have spent a lot of time in the simulator, but it proves his talent once again and how well he can adjust to any car.'
Could this signify that Verstappen might take a sabbatical next year to observe F1's all-new regulations? 'I can't imagine that. He has his own GT3 team, but he also still has too much fun in Formula 1 to just leave. Look at how quickly he drove in Miami even though he had just become a father. That proves that he still likes doing it,' Schumacher said.
'I know many people don't like to hear it, but I find it (the Nurburgring) incredibly dangerous. Especially when you're driving at such a high speed. Of course, we know that Max can drive better than most others. Certainly, if I was Max's team boss, I wouldn't find it in any way beneficial to drive on the Nordschleife,' concluded Schumacher. – with GMM

Semenyo racist abuse at Liverpool shocks Bournemouth captain Smith
A Liverpool fan who had been seen gesturing towards the Ghanaian as he took a throw-in was led away by police at half-time. Bournemouth captain Adam Smith said he was left shocked and angered after teammate Antoine Semenyo reported being racially abused by a fan during the Cherries' 4-2 defeat at Liverpool in the opening game of the Premier League season. The match was briefly halted after half an hour when Semenyo told referee Anthony Taylor of the incident and both managers were informed. ALSO READ: Arsenal 'digging for gold' as title bid starts at new-look Man United A Liverpool fan who had been seen gesturing towards the Ghanaian as he took a throw-in was led away by police at half-time. Semenyo showed remarkable poise to not only continue but go on to score twice in the second half as Bournemouth came within minutes of holding the defending champions to a draw until late strikes by Federico Chiesa and Mohamed Salah. 'Totally unacceptable. Kind of in shock it happened in this day and age. I don't know how Ant has carried on playing and come up with his goals,' said Smith. Premier League players have taken a knee before matches as part of anti-racism campaigns in recent seasons, but Smith said the message is still not getting through. Tottenham condemned the online racist abuse directed towards Mathys Tel this week after he missed a penalty in Spurs' UEFA Super Cup defeat to Paris Saint-Germain. 'He's a little bit down. Something needs to be done. Taking a knee has taken no effect,' Smith added. 'It's more anger. Shocked. I said to the ref I wanted him removed immediately but the police went and sorted it. The Liverpool players were very supportive to Ant and the rest of the team. Just so angry. 'We've had discussions with the Premier League about it so they have been taking it seriously. I don't know what else we can do. We've been doing it for a long time now and no-one is getting it. I just feel sorry for Ant and he's had to take that. The whole country is watching and it's shocking.' Bournemouth boss Andoni Iraola said the incident had taken the shine off a thrilling start to the Premier League campaign on the field. 'It is a shame that the first game of the Premier League, both teams playing a really good game we are speaking about this,' said the Spaniard. 'Most of the news will be about this thing and it is still a big problem not just in football but overall. We should be talking about how great the game has been.' Liverpool boss Arne Slot spoke to Semenyo after the match and praised his mental strength. 'We definitely need to address this. It is unacceptable in every football stadium let alone Anfield,' said the Dutchman. 'I spoke to him and said we will do whatever we can to find this person. 'Big credit to him. He's not only a great player but is very strong mentally if something like that happened to have such a second half performance.' 'The club is unable to comment further as tonight's alleged incident is the subject of an ongoing police investigation, which we will support fully.'

Liverpool match halted after Bournemouth's Semenyo reports racist abuse from crowd
Liverpool's Premier League season-opening match against Bournemouth was briefly halted on Friday after visiting forward Antoine Semenyo reported getting racist abuse from the crowd. Referee Anthony Taylor stopped play at a Liverpool corner in the 29th minute to address the incident, summoning both managers to the touchline for a briefing. Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk and Bournemouth counterpart Adam Smith were then called over to the benches for further instructions before play resumed four minutes later. Following halftime, an anti-discrimination message was read out to the crowd at Anfield. Ghana international Semenyo, 25, went on to score twice after play resumed, helping his side to briefly level the score before reigning Premier League champions Liverpool secured a 4-2 victory with a late surge. "We're very concerned about the allegation of discrimination from an area of the crowd," England's Football Association said in a statement. "Incidents of this nature have no place in our game, and we will work closely with the match officials, the clubs, and the relevant authorities to establish the facts and ensure that the appropriate action is taken." Liverpool said they would fully support the police investigation. "Merseyside Police will not tolerate hate crime of any form," Chief Inspector Kev Chatterton, the match commander for the game, said in a statement. "We take incidents like this very seriously, and in cases like this we will be proactively seeking football banning orders, with the club, against those responsible. "There is no place for racism and it is vital that anyone who witnesses such an offence reports it to stewards, or the police immediately, so we can take the necessary action like we did this evening" What a time to score your first-ever Premier League goal 🤯👏 📺 Stream #LIVBOU on DStv: — SuperSport Football ⚽️ (@SSFootball) August 15, 2025 Liverpool coach Arne Slot was upset about the incident. "It is clear that we do not want this in football," the Dutchman said. "We definitely don't want this at Anfield ... This should never happen in football, let alone at Anfield." Bournemouth coach Andoni Iraola said: "Straight away, Antoine and the referee told us. The person has been identified. "It's a big shame that these things keep happening. It's the first game of the season, a lovely game of football, and I have to speak about these things happening." The incident at Anfield follows reports of Tottenham Hotspur's French forward Mathys Tel being subjected to racist abuse on social media after missing a penalty in his side's Uefa Super Cup defeat by Paris St Germain on Wednesday.

2026 McLaren F1 car to be sold at auction before first race
Champions McLaren claimed a first on Thursday by announcing the auction of one of their 2026 Formula One cars before it has even been raced. The F1 car, which will be driven by Oscar Piastri or Lando Norris, is one of a trio of future chassis offered by McLaren in the December 5 sale organised by RM Sotheby's ahead of this year's season-ending Abu Dhabi Grand Prix. The other two are a 2026 Arrow McLaren Indycar, to be raced at the Indianapolis 500 next May by Mexican Pato O'Ward, and McLaren's inaugural 2027 World Endurance Hypercar that will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans. McLaren CEO Zak Brown said the auction would be the first time a future Formula One car had been sold before it had been unveiled to the public. The as-yet unnamed 2026 car, likely to be the MCL40 after this year's MCL39, will be the team's first for a new era in Formula One with a big change in technical and engine regulations. The successful bidder will have to wait until 2028 to take delivery, with a 2025 show car offered on lease until then to the buyer who will also have behind the scenes access to the team and events. The other cars will be delivered after the respective series have ended. McLaren are the only team to have won the 'Triple Crown' of the Monaco Grand Prix, Indianapolis 500 and Le Mans and will try to add to their success when they return to endurance racing in 2027.
