'My children lost their mother. I lost my wife, the person I depended on the most, and likewise my children,' Adams said.
While the verdict doesn't bring back Cathy, Adams and his attorney hope it sends a message to others who think about getting behind the wheel while intoxicated.
'There are humungous consequences if you do that. So to think twice, if you're not going to do it for yourself, think of all the people you may impact,' Dennis Dore, a senior trial attorney at the Law Office of Ron Sholes, said.

Kim Johnston, the drunk driver, was sentenced to 15 years in prison.
A judge still has to decide how much money the Adams family will get and if any will come from Johnston's insurance.

Sextortion cases in NE Florida see sharp increase this year, FBI Jacksonville
Today FBI Jacksonville, the St. Johns County Sheriff's office, and the Duval County Schools Police Department held a roundtable meeting to make parents aware of a rise in sextortion cases across Northeast Florida this year. During the roundtable meeting, FBI Jacksonville says they've seen a 60% increase in sextortion cases this year across the entire state of Florida. Now they, along with other local agency partners, are urging parents to be aware. 'We continue to see it increase,' FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Jason Carley said. He's talking about documented sextortion cases in Northeast Florida. Sextortion is when a predator asks a child for explicit photos on any online platform. After they get these photos, the predator threatens to publish the images if the child doesn't send them more explicit photos. The demands can escalate and include threats of violence. Law enforcement leaders attending the roundtable included FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Jason Carley, St. Johns County Sheriff Rob Hardwick, and Duval County Public Schools Police Chief Jackson Short. FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Carley noted that specifically in Northeast Florida, they've noticed the number of sextortion cases increase this year. 'Last year, the numbers were very high, but in just the seven months this year, we're already at the numbers for last year,' FBI Jacksonville Special Agent in Charge Jason Carley said. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< The goal of the meeting was to provide awareness to the public about some of the online threats law enforcement has noticed targeting children locally. Those include Sextortion Predators, Traveling Predators, and Predator Networks. And these agencies plan to keep the public aware throughout the year. 'We do a lot of outreach events doing 'Be Smart,' which is going out to the school districts and talking to the parents after the school day to answer questions and make them aware. To give them a better sense of the threats that exist there online and that leave some of their children vulnerable to be exploited,' Special Agent Carley said. If you or someone you know is a victim of a sextortion-related crime, you are asked to contact FBI Jacksonville immediately at 904-248-7000. Or you can contact your local police agency. Clay County teen pleads not guilty to shooting parents to death
Middleburg 14-year-old Trevor Lee is pleading not guilty to shooting and killing his parents inside their home earlier this month. Action News Jax told you at the start of the month when the Clay County Sheriff's Office announced his arrest, saying Lee had killed both of his parents, David Lee and Brandi Smith. After pleading not guilty, the judge allowed two motions for Lee to provide fingerprints and other 'body material samples,' such as the material under his fingernails, to be entered into evidence for the trial, which is scheduled to start the week of February 10th, 2026. Lee's arrest report says he shot and killed his parents inside their home on the night of August 4th after an argument, then walked a mile away to a nearby church where he called 911. The Clay County Sheriff's Office says he'd told dispatchers he had killed his parents and was waiting to be arrested. Lee is being tried as an adult, but local attorneys tell Action News Jax that, if he's found guilty, the death penalty won't be possible because of his age. >>> STREAM ACTION NEWS JAX LIVE <<< 'They basically have to be given a meaningful ability to rehabilitate somewhere down the road around that 25-year mark,' Chris Carson, a Jacksonville-based criminal defense attorney, said. The judge allowed a motion waiving Lee's rights to show up in court for any of the hearings before the trial starts next year. He told Lee that he has the option to show up anyway, if he wishes to do so. Lee's next pretrial hearing is scheduled for September 30th at 9:00 AM.
