IndiGo flight makes emergency landing after bird hit; all passengers safe
A Ranchi-bound IndiGo flight made an emergency landing at Ranchi's Birsa Munda Airport on Monday after being hit by a vulture at around 4,000 feet altitude, an official said, as quoted by PTI.
He added that all the passengers and crew members in the aircraft are safe. However, the incident that occurred at 1.14 pm, caused some damages to the aircraft — Airbus 320.
"An IndiGo flight suffered a bird hit near Ranchi. It was approximately 10 to 12 nautical miles away from here at an altitude of 3,000 to 4,000 feet when the incident occurred. The IndiGo flight was coming from Patna to Ranchi, and the pilot had to make an emergency landing here," R R Mourya, director of Birsa Munda Airport, told PTI.
The aircraft was later scheduled to go to Kolkata, another official said.
The incident comes a day after an IndiGo flight from Raipur to Delhi encountered severe turbulence due to a sudden dust storm as it approached the national capital's Indira Gandhi International Airport, eventually forcing the pilot to abort landing at the last minute. The pilot said that the wind speed was upto 80 km per hour, therefore he discontinued the approach and climbed back until the weather cleared.
Similarly, on May 21, another IndiGo flight from Delhi to Srinagar faced extreme turbulence due to a hailstorm, resulting in visible damage to the aircraft's nose. The flight was denied permission to divert into Pakistani airspace to evade thunderstorms, and it made an emergency landing at the Srinagar airport.

A bloodstained machete believed to have been used in the murder of Raja Raghuvanshi, a man from Madhya Pradesh who went missing along with his wife during their honeymoon, has been recovered by police in Meghalaya, PTI reported, citing officials. A raincoat suspected to belong to the couple was also found in Mawkma village, located a few kilometres from the gorge where Raja's body was found on Monday. 'We have recovered a bloodstained weapon, a relatively unused machete (dao), during the search of the area yesterday. The search and rescue teams have also recovered a raincoat from Mawkma today,' SP of East Khasi Hills Vivek Syiem told PTI. Mawkma lies between the spot where Raja's decomposed body was found and Sohrarim, where the couple's rented scooter was discovered abandoned. The search for his wife, Sonam, is ongoing, with the NDRF leading the operation, officials said. Police believe a raincoat recovered from the area may yield vital clues. Drones, sniffer dogs, and mountaineers are being deployed to aid the search. According to police, the couple arrived in Mawlakhiat village on May 22 on a rented scooter and trekked over 3,000 steps down a gorge to visit the famed living root bridges in Nongriat village, where they stayed the night. The couple left their homestay the following morning. On May 24, their rented scooter was found abandoned outside a café along the road connecting Shillong to Sohra. 'Raja's family identified the body with the help of a distinctive tattoo on his right hand, reading 'Raja and a lady'. A white shirt, a strip of tablets, part of a smartphone's screen, and a smartwatch were seized at the spot,' said the Superintendent of Police (SP). Raja's brother, V Raguvanshi, told PTI, 'Since my brother's gold rings, a gold chain and his wallet are missing, we suspect it is a murder. We urge the authorities to let the CBI conduct an inquiry into this.' The post-mortem examination was being conducted at the North Eastern Indira Gandhi Regional Institute of Health and Medical Sciences near Shillong. SP Syiem said a murder case had been registered and was being investigated by a Special Investigation Team (SIT), led by an SP-rank officer and supported by four officers of deputy superintendent rank. Islamabad: At least 216 prisoners escaped from Pakistan's Karachi prison after a series of earthquakes shook the city on Tuesday. Karachi's Malir Jail houses at least 5,000 prisoners and is home to some of the country's most high-profile inmates, including terrorists. As 3.2-3.6 magnitude tremors shook the city, panic spread among thousands of inmates as cracks appeared on the prison walls. Soon after, they started breaking the doors and locks of their cells and shattered windows in an attempt to escape. Prisoners started yelling from their barracks and cells, fearing the building collapse, the prison superintendent told the BBC. "The incident is not a security lapse, it's all due to a natural disaster," the official added. What ensued was chaos, and police, along with the security forces, launched an operation to recapture the escaped inmates. Police said they fired warning shots into the air, which resulted in the death of an inmate and injuries to two prison officers. About 80 prisoners have been recaptured, while more than 130 prisoners are still on the run, reports said. Zia-ul Hasan Lanjhar, the Sindh Home Minister, said the government may consider reducing the sentences of inmates who return voluntarily. He issued a warning that anyone apprehended by the police would be tried under anti-terrorism legislation, according to reports. Malir Jail is also home to more than 100 Indian inmates, most of whom are poor fishermen serving sentences for allegedly engaging in illegal fishing in Pakistani waters. They were detained in different barracks and stayed in their cells during the earthquake, according to a police official. The recent jailbreak is one of the largest in Pakistan's recent history. Police are going from place to place, visiting former homes of escaped inmates to find and arrest those still on the run.

Weather today: Rain, thunderstorms expected in Delhi and Kolkata; orange alert for Himachal Pradesh
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert - indicating heavy rainfall - for parts of Himachal Pradesh, accompanied by lightning and strong winds. An orange alert has been sounded in the following districts: Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan, and Sirmaur. The weather agency has also issued a yellow alert for some other areas, which are likely to witness thunderstorms with lightning and winds reaching 30–50 km/h. The weather across the hill state was largely dry on Tuesday, with a few places receiving light rain and snowfall. Kufri, Karsog, and Guler received 20 mm of rainfall, followed by 10 mm in Pandoh, Sundernagar, Shimla, Gohar, Aghar, Mandi, Bharmaur, Paonta Sahib, Solan, Chopal, Bilaspur, and Una, according to the meteorological centre. Meanwhile, for Kolkata too, rain and thunderstorm activity has been forecast for today. In the northeast, several states continue to be severely affected by floods and landslides caused by relentless heavy rainfall, with the overall death toll rising to 47 and more than 6.33 lakh people impacted as of Tuesday. Assam has reported 17 deaths, including five due to landslides in and around Guwahati. This is followed by 12 fatalities in Arunachal Pradesh, six each in Meghalaya and Mizoram, three in Sikkim, two in Tripura, and one in Nagaland.
