Calling the split "very messy," Ariana reveals she and Kroy plan to "talk soon" as they navigate the family's ups and downs
Kroy filed for divorce from The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum for a third time in February after trying to reconcile for their six childrenAriana Biermann is opening up about navigating her parents' divorce.
The reality star, 23, caught up with PEOPLE at the Next Gen NYC premiere party on Monday, June 2 as she prepares to share her life on the new reality series. After her mom Kim Zolciak-Biermann and dad Kroy Biermann (who legally adopted Ariana and her sister Brielle, 28, in 2013) made headlines for their tumultuous split, she says her dynamic with the former NFL player has been complicated.
'It goes through waves a little bit,' Ariana admits. 'The divorce has been very difficult and very messy, and my mom is my best friend, and it's really hard to watch.'
'A lot of these things go on, but I try to keep it separate, so we go in waves,' she continues, noting that she and Kroy, 39, are 'going to talk soon.'
Despite their ups and downs, Ariana reveals that her dad has been 'very supportive' of her involvement in Next Gen NYC and even gave permission for her to talk about their recent challenges on the show.
'He hasn't said anything about it since it came out or anything,' she notes. 'But you have to sign a release for these things in order to talk about things, and he was willing to do that for me and was okay with me sharing my story and the things that have gone on over the last couple of years, and he's been supportive in that.'
Kim and Kroy, who also share four additional children — Kroy "KJ" Jagger Jr., 13, Kash Kade, 12, and twins Kaia Rose and Kane Ren, 11 — jointly filed for divorce in May 2023 after 12 years together.
Two months later, they decided to reconcile in an attempt to "make it work for the kids,' but Kroy refiled for divorce by August of that same year. He recently filed for divorce for a third time in February.
In her original filing, The Real Housewives of Atlanta alum, 47, stated that the marriage was "irretrievably broken with no hope of reconciliation."
For several months of their separation, the couple both resided in their Georgia home, which led to growing tension in the relationship. In April, Kim called 911 to report that Kroy had allegedly violated a December 2023 court order that required each to stay on separate sides of the house. Then, in November, they called the police again, accusing one another of domestic violence.
The Don't Be Tardy alums were also facing foreclosure threats during this time, although they officially sold the property in January, according to property records. The 15,700-square-foot mansion was first listed for $6 million in October 2023, but ultimately sold for $2.75 million.

Here's what she told People back in 2024 about keeping some things under wraps: 'I think I felt like I just, some parts of myself I love to share and then some parts I think I just keep to myself.' She has said it's not a fellow tennis player, and she made a funny joke about that after Challengers came out. We know that he's musical and wants to act. Why Beyoncé and BET Keep Calling Jesse Collins

There's a memorable scene in Beyoncé's 'Homecoming' documentary about her headlining performance at Coachella in 2018, when she asks a production crew member for a 30-foot-wide camera track. He tells her it doesn't exist. She then proves him wrong. The Emmy-winning television producer Jesse Collins remembers that moment well, so when the pop superstar called on him to produce her Christmas Day N.F.L. halftime extravaganza 'Beyoncé Bowl' for Netflix, he was ready to meet her demands. 'Hell no, I will never tell her something doesn't exist unless it really doesn't exist,' he said recently with a laugh, 'because she'll Google it and she keeps up with technology. If it can't happen, I am 1,000 percent certain it can't happen.' Collins, 54, has worked closely with Beyoncé on awards show performances, including her raucous rendition of 'Freedom' at the 2016 BET Awards, when she danced and kicked in a shallow pool of water. 'The water was one of the most complicated things that I've ever done on any award show,' Collins recalled in a video interview from his office in Burbank, Calif., in a comfy black hoodie as the sun beamed behind him. 'Most people try to get away from water,' he said, but an executive had promised it. 'When you start the conversation with, 'This was promised to Beyoncé,' everybody's like, 'We're going to make this happen.'' Making things happen is Collins's specialty, and it's why heavyweights like Oprah Winfrey and Jay-Z have recruited him for their projects. Want all of The Times? Subscribe.
