Aditi Ashok shoots season best round of 65, rises to fifth in Portland
Portland (Oregon), Aug 17 (PTI) Aditi Ashok sunk in seven birdies to produce her best round of the season — a card of 65– that carried her into the top-5 after the third round of The Standard Portland Classic on the LPGA Tour, here.
Aditi, who had played only 12 events on the Tour before this week, has had only one top-10 this season — a Tied-9th position at Riviera Maya Open at Mayakoba.
Starting birdie-birdie on the first two, she added three in a row from the sixth to the eighth. Then came another back-to-back birdie pair on the 13th and he 14th for a 7-under 65 after 69-70 on the first two days.
Gurleen Kaur (65-68-70) at 13-under was fourth and Savannah Grewal (69-67-72) was 8-under and T-25.
Japan's Akie Iwai of Japan eagled the fifth hole and picked birdies on other three par 5s at Columbia Edgewater, during a round of 8-under 64 to take a two-stroke lead.
Iwai is trying to join twin sister Chisato as an LPGA Tour winner this year after second-place finishes in Thailand in February and Los Angeles in April.
Grace Kim of Australia was second after a 67. She holed a 156-yard shot for eagle from the left rough on the par-4 17th. She was 16-under and two off the lead.
Sweden's Linn Grant was 14 under after a 65.
Gurleen shot 70 to get to 13 under and India's Aditi Ashok (65) at 12-under was another stroke back with Gina Kim (67).
Iwai, the winner in Mexico at Mayakoba in May, was in the group at 11 under after a 66. She also eagled the fifth hole.
Second-round leader Jeongeun Lee5 also was 10 under. She shot 74. PTI Corr AT AT AT

Korea's Yejin Oh topped the qualifications with 585 but she was participating for ranking points only, leaving Chinese Qianxun Yao to make the final as the top-ranked shooter. Esha Singh, who was also taking part in the event for ranking points only, was ninth with 577 while Suruchi Singh was placed 12th with 574. Palak ended in 17th place with 573, while Surbhi Rao (RPO) was 25th with 570. The trio of Bhaker, Suruchi Singh and Palak finished third in the team event with a total score of 1730.

Indian boxers stuck in Patiala as visa delay hampers UK training trip ahead of World Championships

While four women boxers and some coaching staff have reached the UK, the 10-member men's team and six women pugilists remain at the national camp in NIS Patiala, awaiting their clearances for the crucial multinational training camp scheduled from August 17 to September 1. The squad was originally scheduled to depart on Sunday to participate in the training camp, which serves as a vital preparation for the World Championships taking place from September 4 to 14. The male boxers currently have access to only one coach, as three others, including head coach Dharmendra Yadav, are already in Sheffield. "Yes, the three of us have reached here but all the (male) boxers are still waiting for their visas. We had to start sparring in the multinational camp from Wednesday but we cancelled it as we don't know when the visa will arrive and when the boxers will be able to reach here," Yadav told PTI. The Boxing Federation of India's Interim Committee is working to resolve the situation. Committee member Col Arun Malik provided an update on the situation. "However, as the process is largely automated, interventions so far have not been able to resolve the delays. Fit-again Renuka Singh returns as India women overlook Shafali Verma for Australia ODIs, World Cup
Explosive opener Shafali Verma was left out of the India women's cricket team's squads for the upcoming ODIs against Australia as well as the World Cup, with the selection committee instead persisting with Pratika Rawal. Renuka, meanwhile, has been out of action since March, having missed the tour of England along the way. The squad will be led by Harmanpreet Kaur with Smriti Mandhana, who was also present at the selection meeting at BCCI's Mumbai headquarters, as her deputy in the ICC event which begins on September 30. The selectors also announced the squad for the three ODIs against Australia which precedes the World Cup with only one change in both the sides. The series begins on September 14.
