Cibasu was one of two CIS players invited to the 2018 East-West Shrine game for NCAA draft-eligible prospects, and there were reportedly six to eight NFL teams that had him on their radar, although only Washington sent a representative to his pro day workout in Lachine.

While the NFL didn't factor into his future after a rookie mini-camp invitation from the Chicago Bears, and although he was drafted by Toronto in the third round (20th overall) in 2018, Cibasu has been nothing more than a supporting actor in the CFL, scratching and clawing for playing time.

'I'm still proud,' Cibasu, who has been with the Alouettes since 2021, told The Gazette this week after a practice at Stade Hébert. 'Obviously, we always want to be in the top discussion, be a star. But it's the pro level. Everybody's good here. I'm actually blessed to be part of this beautiful team. I think we have a shot to win this year.

'It depends what you want in life. Do you still want to play football professionally? You have to make sacrifices. It is hard because you still want to compete. Sometimes you're on the sidelines, but it's always for the good of the team. Here, we have a good team, a good culture. I'll do whatever they ask me to do to be on this team. With Tyson Philpot (knee) missing a third consecutive game Saturday night when the Als host the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Cibasu has been receiving plenty of playing time. In last Thursday's comeback victory at Calgary, the 31-year-old caught two passes for 41 yards. That included a 25-yard reception in the second quarter, one play before McLeod Bethel-Thompson's touchdown to Cole Spieker.

Cibasu has been called the Als' Swiss Army knife because of the many other positions he has played, including tight end, fullback and kickoff returner.

'It's great to see what he's doing for us,' said Als receivers coach Mike Lionello. 'He's a big body that's athletic. The way he can move at his size is amazing. Physically, he's so long he can dominate people just with his body. And his effort is relentless. I'm very happy with him.'

Lionello had Cibasu under his wing with the Argonauts as a rookie in 2019 and said the learning curve that season was steep. 'But nobody works harder than him. I can't wait to watch him play on Saturday. Kick some ass out there.'

NFL suspends Vikings' Jordan Addison for 3 games over DUI case
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota Vikings wide receiver Jordan Addison was suspended for three games by the NFL on Tuesday for violating the league's personal conduct policy for a drunken driving case last year. Addison avoided a trial by pleading no contest to a lesser charge last month, after facing two misdemeanor DUIs for his arrest on July 12, 2024, when a California Highway Patrol officer found him asleep in his vehicle that was blocking a lane on an interstate exit near Los Angeles International Airport. Addison will be permitted to practice and play in exhibition games before the suspension kicks in for games against Chicago, Atlanta and Cincinnati. Addison, the 23rd pick of the 2023 draft, has 19 touchdowns and 1,786 receiving yards in his first two seasons to form a dominant duo with two-time All-Pro Justin Jefferson. But he was arrested for excessive speeding the week before training camp of his rookie year, and the drunken driving arrest last offseason came after another dangerous off-the-field decision. Addison was contrite and remorseful upon reporting to training camp last year, praising the Vikings for their support after he said he was in a 'dark place' after the arrest. Without Addison for the first three games, new starting quarterback J.J. McCarthy will need to lean on depth wide receivers such as Jalen Nailor, rookie Tai Felton and newcomer Rondale Moore if he's ready to play following his ACL rehabilitation. Tight ends T.J. Hockenson and Josh Oliver and running back Aaron Jones also figure to be vital options during Addison's absence to help keep defenses from keying more heavily on Jefferson than they already do. Addison, who finished his college career at USC after starting at Pittsburgh, matched Odell Beckham Jr. for the fourth-most touchdown receptions in league history by players before their 23rd birthday. JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) — Playing both sides of the ball is now part of Travis Hunter's regular practice routine with the Jacksonville Jaguars. The 2024 Heisman Trophy winner and the second overall pick in this year's NFL draft played offense and defense during training camp Tuesday. He wore a teal, No. 12 jersey at receiver and then threw on a white, loose-fitting, No. 12 penny when it was time to line up at cornerback. 'It's funny seeing him (go) back and forth,' quarterback Trevor Lawrence said. 'It's pretty crazy. Never seen anything like it.' Hunter had a minor issue with the sideline swap. Offensive teammates grabbed his baggy covering on several occasions, which helped them keep Hunter at bay during running plays; it won't be a problem during games since he won't have to change jerseys. Hunter first switched back and forth during a scrimmage at EverBank Stadium on Saturday night, playing 17 snaps with the first-team offense and 21 with the first-team defense. He got similar work Tuesday, logging nine snaps on each side of the ball in 11-on-11 drills. It's the kind of versatility the Jaguars envisioned when they gave up a second-round pick and a 2026 first-rounder to move up three spots and select Hunter. 'It might not be every single day, but I would say it would probably be a little bit more normal than not,' coach Liam Coen said. The Jaguars planned for months to get to the point where Hunter was working interchangeably on both sides. They used him solely at receiver to open organized team activities in May and then expanded his usage as the team stacked practices. By the start of training camp last month, he was working a day on offense and then a day on defense. But getting him to do both within minutes, sometimes seconds, was the next step in his NFL evolution. 'Hopefully, more offense,' Lawrence quipped. 'Just the way he plays, the energy he plays with. Even just little things like interacting with the fans and the juice he brings into the stadium. That stuff does mean something. 'Not everyone necessarily has that personality, but he has something about him that's just special. The energy he brings and the energy he plays with and the joy and all that stuff — the way he runs around — it's fun to watch and it's fun to play with a guy like that. I think he's starting to play a lot faster now that he knows the system and can play free.' Hunter gives the small-market franchise more star power than it's had in decades — maybe ever. He caught 96 passes for 1,258 yards and 15 touchdowns last season at Colorado and had 35 tackles, 11 pass breakups, eight forced incompletions and four interceptions while allowing just one touchdown. The Jaguars intend to use him primarily as a slot receiver on offense and as an outside cornerback in certain packages on defense. Coen was an assistant with the Las Angeles Rams, who rarely played starters and even rested backups, and with Tampa Bay, which played starters in the preseason in hopes of getting 'some quality work.' The Buccaneers will be the eighth team in 12 seasons for the 32-year-old Bridgewater. Bridgewater coached his former high school in Miami to a Class 3A state championship last fall and then returned to the NFL in late December to serve as a backup to Jared Goff for the playoff-bound Lions. He would provide insurance for the four-time defending NFC South champions behind Baker Mayfield. The Buccaneers also have veteran Kyle Trask, who has thrown 11 passes in four seasons since he was a second-round pick in 2021. Bridgewater said last month that he was suspended from coaching Miami Northwestern High School because he provided players with financial benefits that he says he reported to the school. 'I'm not going anywhere,' Bridgewater said on social media post. 'And if it comes down to it, I will volunteer from the bleachers like I used to in 2018 and 2019 when no one had a problem.' Bridgewater, a first-round pick by Minnesota in 2014, is 33-32 as a starter and made the Pro Bowl after his second season when he led the Vikings to an 11-5 record. He also spent time with the Jets, Saints, Panthers, Broncos and Dolphins. Bridgewater has completed 66.4% of his passes for 15,120 yards, 75 touchdowns, 47 interceptions and a 90.5 passer rating. Buccaneers offensive coordinator Josh Grizzard was an assistant coach in Miami in 2022 when Bridgewater backed up Tua Tagovailoa. Buccaneers defensive line coach Charlie Strong was Bridgewater's head coach at Louisville. Tampa Bay's quarterback room also includes Michael Pratt and Connor Bazelak. Pratt, a seventh-round pick out of Tulane by Green Bay in 2024 who signed to the Buccaneers' practice squad last August, has been sidelined by a back injury.
