One of the fastest two-sport athletes in the country chooses HBCU
Texas Southern University has secured one of the fastest high school athletes in the country. Louisiana state champion Josh Brown has signed with the Texas Southern men's track & field team for the 2025-26 season. The latest proof that HBCU programs aren't just in the race - they're setting the pace in recruiting elite talent.
Brown, a native of New Orleans, graduated from Holy Cross High School with a standout track record. He currently holds Louisiana's top times in both the 100-meter and 200-meter dashes. Nationally, he ranks fourth in the 200 meters. His 4×100-meter relay team also led the state this season.
At the 2025 LHSAA Class 5A Outdoor State Championships, Brown won gold in the 100, 200, and anchored the 4×100 relay team. He also captured the indoor 60-meter title earlier in the year. His performances rewrote the Holy Cross record books.
Texas Southern head coach Clyde Duncan Sr. believes Brown will make an immediate impact.
Brown also shines in the classroom. He maintains straight A's and has a strong GPA. That maturity, combined with his drive to improve, made him a top target.
Brown is also an accomplished football player. He earned all-state and all-district honors in high school. With a strong resume in two sports, he drew interest from numerous colleges across the country.
Texas Southern University's family culture played a key role in his decision. Former TSU standout Eric Smith, now a successful high school coach in Louisiana, helped guide Brown during the recruiting process.
Head coach Duncan is no stranger to success. He became the first men's track & field coach in over 20 years to win the SWAC trifecta-indoor, outdoor, and cross country-in back-to-back seasons. With Brown now on board, Texas Southern is reloading for another run at history.

SWAC makes decision on NCAA House settlement
The Southwestern Athletic Conference (SWAC) has officially opted in to the House v. NCAA settlement. This move marks a major step forward in the future of college athlete compensation. Howard makes history at NCAA Championship
Howard University women's track & field program concluded its outdoor campaign at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., hosted by the University of Oregon, with outstanding Bison earning All-American status. Howard was the dominant HBCU program for the women's NCAA Championships. Graduates Kailei Collins (Houston) and Marcia Sey (London, United Kingdom), senior Tiffani-Rae Pittman (Bowie, Md.) and sophomore Aiyana Gray-Williams (Winston-Salem, N.C.) began Day Four with a sixth-place finish in the 4×100 relay, clocking in at 43.23. The four Bison earned All-American First Team honors, becoming the first All-American 4×100 relay squad in program history. USC won the 4×100 relay race with a 42.22 mark. Individually, Sey had her best performance in a Bison uniform, winning bronze in the 100-meter hurdles with a 12.93 time. Her third-place finish is the highest in program history. Additionally, the British native received All-American First Team honors. Oregon's Aaliyah McCormick won the short hurdles, producing a 12.81 mark. Graduate student Noah Langford of Virginia Beach, Virginia, led the Bison with a standout performance in the 400-meter hurdles semifinals. Langford posted a time of 50.50 seconds, falling short of qualifying for the final round but earning Second Team All-America honors. He became the first Howard men's long hurdler to earn All-America recognition since John Branch accomplished it for the Washington, D.C. HBCU in 1989. Baylor's Nathaniel Ezekiel recorded the top 400-meter hurdles time in the semifinals with an impressive 47.86 seconds. Howard also competed in the 4×400-meter relay, featuring Langford, sophomore Emerson McKindra of Linden, New Jersey, and freshmen Cameron Brazell of Houston and Elijah Grant of Fort Mill, South Carolina. The team clocked in at 3:08.92, missing advancement but receiving honorable mention from the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA). Howard Director of Track & Field David Oliver and the Bison wrapped up another success season, winning a pair of MEAC (Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference) crowns during the indoor and outdoor campaigns. Ole Miss adds home-and-home with HBCU
NORFOLK, Va. - Norfolk State University has finalized a home-and-home series with nationally ranked Ole Miss, continuing a trend of high-profile matchups for the rising HBCU women's basketball program. The HBCU squad will travel to Oxford, Mississippi, to face the Rebels on Nov. 3, 2025. The following season, Ole Miss will make its first-ever trip to Echols Hall. Tipoff times for both contests will be announced at a later date. "This is an exciting moment for our women's basketball program and the entire Norfolk State community," said Vice President and Director of Athletics Dr. Melody Webb. "Hosting a nationally ranked SEC opponent like Ole Miss speaks volumes about our trajectory and growing national reputation. With two ranked teams-Duke and Ole Miss-coming to Echols Hall, our fans are in for an incredible stretch of elite basketball." This series marks the first meeting between Norfolk State and Ole Miss. The Spartans are no strangers to success against the SEC, earning wins over Missouri and Auburn last season while finishing 2-1 against the conference. When Ole Miss visits Norfolk, it will become the first SEC team to play on the Spartans' home court. The Rebels finished the 2024–25 season ranked No. 17 nationally with a 22–11 record and a trip to the Sweet 16. "Coach McPhee-McCuin has long championed the growth and visibility of HBCUs," said Norfolk State head coach Jermaine Woods. "We've built a strong relationship, and I appreciate her using her platform to uplift others and promote the game. Her program's visit to Norfolk will mean a great deal to our city and university." Norfolk State is coming off a historic season, claiming a third straight MEAC Tournament Championship.
