Gaddar Telangana Film Awards on June 14
On Tuesday, the Gaddar Awards jury committee, chaired by actress Jayasudha, met with Cinematography Minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy at LV Prasad Cine Lab to discuss the preparations.
The awards will retrospectively honour one outstanding film each year from 2014 to 2023. The Telangana Film Development Corporation has received 76 applications from directors and producers in various categories, along with 1,172 nominations for individual awards.
Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka said that the awards ceremony will be held in a grand manner at HITEX, Hyderabad. He criticised the previous government for neglecting the film industry and reaffirmed the current government's commitment to supporting its growth.
'The earlier Congress government took significant steps to bring the film industry from Chennai to Hyderabad, including the allocation of land for studios and housing sites for film artists,' he remarked.
Praising revolutionary balladeer Gaddar, the deputy CM said he truly embodies Telangana's culture. 'Gaddar has taken Telangana's cultural ideology to the global stage,' he added.

Film director and MA-AP founder Dileep Raja has opposed suggestions to have the Nandi film awards selected jointly by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Speaking to The Hindu on Wednesday, he questioned the need for a joint process when Telangana had renamed its awards after poet Gaddar and conducted them independently. 'When Telangana gave away awards in Gaddar's name, did it involve Andhra Pradesh?' he asked. Citing the Andhra Pradesh Reorganisation Act, Mr. Raja noted that both States have separate Chief Ministers and Film Development Corporations, and decisions must comply with legal provisions. He said Telangana's award choices reflect its own cultural identity and social context, which may differ from Andhra Pradesh's criteria. While films are released in both States, he stressed that the Nandi Awards Committee should pick winners strictly on merit to ensure transparency. He also urged the government to consult film industry members from Andhra Pradesh before framing the new film policy.

Tollywood producers meet AP cinematography minister, seek incentives
Vijayawada: Several leading Tollywood producers met Andhra Pradesh cinematography minister Kandula Durgesh on Monday to discuss the ongoing problems in the Telugu film industry. The producers submitted a representation on various issues faced by the film industry and sought incentives. Also on Monday, producers Dil Raju (chairman of Telangana Film Development Corporation), Gemini Kiran, Prasanna Kumar, Damodhar Prasad, Supriya Yarlagadda, and Bhogavalli Bapineedu among others met Telangana cinematography minister Komatireddy Venkat Reddy in Hyderabad to discuss similar issues. particularly the ongoing strike by Telugu Film Industry Employees' Federation (TFIEF). Speaking to reporters after the meeting, the minister said the producers came to share updates on the current developments in Tollywood. "There was no special agenda. We will listen to both film workers and producers in the context of the ongoing agitation. The federation and the film chamber should resolve issues through dialogue. If needed, we will take up the matter with chief minister N Chandrababu Naidu and deputy CM Pawan Kalyan. The govt's intervention will be considered at that level. We are committed to the growth of film industry in AP and will support the creation of infrastructure such as studios and dubbing theatres," Durgesh said. The producers, after their interaction with the minister, said they put forward several suggestions for the development of film industry in the state. They requested incentives for distributors and exhibitors, recognition of film industry as a special category, and support for theatre owners facing losses. They also called for a dedicated policy for industry growth. The minister assured them of facilitating a meeting with the CM and deputy CM soon. Among those present at the meeting were BVSN Prasad, Ravishankar Yelamanchili, TG Vishwaprasad, Naga Vamsi, DVV Danayya, and Bunny Vasu.

Creating the Gaddar Award demanded cultural sensitivity and historical insight, says the artist
Mahi Sharma The Telangana Gaddar Film Awards memento featuring a golden hand clutching a traditional dappu, wrapped with a film reel, is a bold and evocative symbol of the spirit of resistance and culture in Telangana. It is the creation of Ramavath Nayak, an artist whose journey began in the bylanes of a small village near Guntur. Born in the early 1980s, Nayak discovered his love for art while still in school. His first earnings of ₹200 was by painting maps and portraits on school walls. Talking about his design, Mr. Nayak explained, 'The hand signifies the people's power to shape their lives and the dappu represents the beat of revolution, of collective justice. And the film reel ties it all to the power of storytelling through cinema.' For Mr. Nayak, designing the Gaddar Award was personal. 'I come from a village where there wasn't even an art teacher and to be chosen for something like this is a reminder that passion not privilege, defines your path,' he says. He added that creating the memento involved more than artistic skill; it demanded cultural sensitivity and historical insight. For this, he immersed himself in Gaddar's writings, speeches, and performances to understand the spirit of the man and the movement. He studied Telangana's folklore, protest art, and the region's history of resistance to arrive at the iconic design we now see. To hone his talent, he joined the Venkateshwara College of Fine Arts in Hyderabad. His decision to enroll was shaped by a fortuitous moment, a state-level art competition where his concept painting, themed around environmental awareness, caught the attention of prominent guests. One of whom encouraged him to pursue formal training in art. Despite financial constraints, he managed to complete his education, supporting himself with prize money and freelance work. Nayak was suggested as a candidate to design the Gaddar Award by his well-wisher Satya Kishor. As the Gaddar Award finds its place in the hands of Telugu cinema's finest, it carries with it not only recognition but also resistance, pride and an enduring beat of revolution just as Gaddar would have wanted.
