When a new film is released in cinemas, moviegoers typically have a few weeks, sometimes up to a month, to catch it on the big screen. This window not only gives fans time to watch, but also allows the production company a chance to turn a profit. But what happens when a film's cinema run is cut short? What if it doesn't make enough money? And what about fans who were eager to watch, only to find it's no longer showing at their nearest cinema? Malaysian fans have expressed disappointment after discovering that the latest local film, 'Gantung: Musketeer Code', is no longer available in cinemas. Here's the story: Earlier this week, Golden Screen Cinemas (GSC) announced that Wednesday (11th June) would be the final day to catch 'Gantung: Musketeer Code' on the big screen, after just seven days in cinemas. This prompted netizens to plead with the company to extend the film's run, as many were occupied with Hari Raya Haji celebrations when the film first premiered. The film's director, Nadia Mohammad Hatta, also known as Nadia Khan, even took to Twitter to appeal to GSC and TGV Cinemas not to halt the screening. She argued that the film should remain in cinemas for at least two weeks, as it is protected under the 'Skim Wajib Tayang' policy. Much to her disappointment, GSC simply replied: 'Hi, this is the last day, okay?'. For those unfamiliar, 'Skim Wajib Tayang' requires that a film be screened in cinemas for a minimum of two weeks. However, screenings may be moved from a larger hall to a smaller one for various reasons, such as low audience turnout or viewership. Cinema operators are also permitted to withdraw an approved film entirely if the number of viewers falls below 15%. But even if GSC was legally within its rights to stop screening the film, many fans remain upset with the decision. Some criticised the cinema company's dismissive response to the director, while others pointed out that the film's inconvenient release date, coinciding with Hari Raya Haji, was not taken into account. Fans also accused GSC of hypocrisy, pointing out that while the company has often encouraged Malaysians to support local films, it refused to extend the cinema run of 'Gantung: Musketeer Code.' At the time of writing, GSC has yet to respond to demands. Meanwhile, TGV is still screening the film in two outlets, which are at Strand Kota Damansara and Wangsa Walk. G-Dragon Concert Organiser Cancelling Fans' Tickets Instead Of Targeting Scalpers?
Just when it seemed the controversy over G-Dragon (권지용) concert tickets couldn't get any worse, it did. Fans were already outraged when the organiser, Star Planet Malaysia, managed to re-release only 254 tickets after cancelling those acquired by scalpers, especially given that over 300 were allegedly snapped up by local and international buyers using a bypass. The company gave assurances that it would further investigate the issue and cancel any ticket linked to suspicious activity. However, some genuine fans have since come forward after discovering that their tickets are no longer valid. Here's what happened: One of our readers got in touch with us to share that some G-Dragon fans received an email from Star Planet informing them that their tickets had been voided due to irregularities. According to the screenshots they provided, one fan urged others to check their emails to confirm whether their tickets were still valid. 'How can they cancel my ticket like that? I thought they said only scalped tickets would be voided, but it turns out, they voided mine,' the fan wrote. A user on Twitter, who runs a ticketing service, backed the affected fan, stating that one of her customers also had their ticket voided, despite the ticket being purchased legally through the official website. The story is currently making waves on Twitter, with many accusing the organiser of failing to keep its promise to cancel scalped tickets. Others have questioned the methods used to detect these resold tickets. Some pointed out that notorious scalper Aqil Zubir has made his Instagram account public again to continue reselling G-Dragon tickets, further fuelling suspicion that Star Planet has yet to void the tickets he purchased. If that weren't suspicious enough, the scalper posted on his Instagram Story that he had recently attended the Maher Zain concert press conference, a private event typically reserved for media, organisers, and VIPs. This has raised questions about whether he could be one of the alleged insiders with access to the tickets. There is currently no concrete evidence to support this rumour, but given that he is still openly promoting ticket resales, there is reason to suspect that he may at least have been overlooked by Star Planet. As for the 254 re-released tickets, the website indicates they have already sold out, yet no official announcement has been made. If these speculations hold any truth, it may be wise to check your email to ensure your tickets are still valid for the upcoming G-Dragon concert in Kuala Lumpur.
