Pakistan joins global AI community
Pakistan has officially joined the global AI landscape with the launch of the Pakistan Chapter of the Association for the Advancement of Artificial Intelligence (AAAI), founded in 1958. The launch event was held at Pearl Continental Hotel, with over 200 C-level executives, professors, researchers, and dignitaries in attendance.
The event was chaired by Muhammad Tahir, the newly appointed Chair of AAAI Pakistan, who introduced the core vision and benefits of this global affiliation. "This is not just a chapter," he said. It's Pakistan's official entry into the global AI ecosystem. Through AAAI, Pakistanis will gain access to over 15,000 international AI research papers, global university collaborations, funding opportunities for startups, international hackathons, and a chance to host the official AAAI Regional Conference in Pakistan, he said.
The event was attended by key figures from the government of Pakistan and technology leadership, including Dr Yasar Ayaz, Chairman of the National Centre of Artificial Intelligence (NCAI) and head of the national AI Task Force. He praised the AAAI initiative, stating: "This is a game-changing moment."
With AAAI's presence, Pakistan's AI capabilities will now be recognised globally. It opens doors to academic, economic, and technological growth at a scale we've never seen before. The event opened with a historic AI-generated video appearance of Jack McCarthy, the late founder of Artificial Intelligence and AAAI. The symbolic gesture set the tone for what is now being called Pakistan's most prestigious AI affiliation to date.
Jibran Jamshad, Regional Director at Microsoft, also shared insights on how AAAI's global influence contributed to breakthroughs like ChatGPT and other AI tools: "Without AAAI, the AI revolution we see today wouldn't exist. This chapter will allow Pakistani talent to join the global narrative."
The official AAAI website for Pakistan will be launched on August 14, 2025, at www.aaai.pk, providing memberships, research access, and community updates. With the presence of military officials, academic leaders, and corporate sponsors, this launch marked a powerful new era in Pakistan's tech ecosystem, with the potential to generate over $200 million in AI-driven economic impact and boost international collaboration in education, innovation, and entrepreneurship.

Notably, a standalone app is also under consideration, alongside an overhaul of back-end infrastructure to support improved search functionality in Siri, Spotlight, and Safari. Currently, the company has only confirmed plans for the personalized Siri update — showcased at WWDC 2024 — where users were seen asking Siri about their mother's flight details and lunch plans based on information pulled from Mail and Messages. Markiplier addresses AI backlash, clarifies stance in livestream and explains AI thumbnail incident
YouTuber Markiplier has addressed growing criticism surrounding his use and commentary on artificial intelligence, following recent controversy within his online community. In a livestream, he responded to concerns about his podcast's usage of ChatGPT, an AI-generated image in a thumbnail, and AI-related moderation on his subreddit. Markiplier stated that his previous comments on generative AI were jokes made to highlight its risks, not endorsements. 'There are reasons to be critical of [AI] the way that it currently is,' he said. 'It's a problem when used without safeguards or proper oversight.' He added that his interest in AI was primarily driven by a desire to inform audiences about the technology's potential dangers. 'There isn't this need to be so scared of [AI], but there is a need to be aware of what you're afraid of,' he explained. Markiplier also clarified that the AI-generated thumbnail in question was a stock image unknowingly used by his editor. In a Reddit post, he wrote that such images are now common on stock photo websites, often replacing real photography. Further addressing the issue, he explained that AI discussions were restricted on his subreddit due to escalating hostility and threats toward him and his moderators, not to suppress dissent. He reaffirmed his opposition by pointing to subreddit rules that prohibit posting AI-generated content. Markiplier also spoke about his support for Real Good AI, a foundation focused on developing AI tools for positive human applications. He concluded by reiterating the importance of creativity: 'There's still value in pursuing artistic endeavours. There always will be as long as we're human.'

Pakistan dispatches 100 tonnes of aid to Gaza under PM's directive

During the event, the Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister reaffirmed Pakistan's unwavering solidarity with the Palestinian people, called for an immediate ceasefire and protection of civilians, and urged a lasting political settlement based on a two‑state solution along pre‑1967 borders, in line with international law and UN Security Council resolutions. The federal government has planned to deliver 200 tonnes of aid to Gaza in two special flights, with the remaining 100 tonnes to be dispatched in the coming days.
