Love Island fans need to read new thriller with a big twist perfect for summer
I'm not a big New Year's resolution person, but one of my goals for this year was to stop mindlessly scrolling on my phone while the TV blares in the background and instead read a book (or at least watch TV a bit more intentionally).
So while I haven't been watching very much TV, I have been reading a lot of literature inspired by TV shows and trends, which is definitely the next best thing.
Enter: People Pleaser.
Catriona Stewart's debut novel follows Maggie Lathrop, a woman whose life is transformed overnight when she wins LoveShack, America's most popular reality dating show. But when she is found murdered in a Los Angeles warehouse and the police fail to find any answers, her sister Emma steps in to investigate.
Thrillers aren't usually my thing and I probably only read one every other month. But when I saw People Pleaser described as White Lotus meets Love Island, I just couldn't resist.
And I'm so glad I didn't, because this story had me hooked from the first few pages. I'm generally a pretty quick reader, but this is such a page-turner and I flew through this in just two sittings.
It's so addictive, especially for anyone, like me, who has ever wondered what goes on on shows like Love Island when the cameras stop rolling. The story is told from several different perspectives, including Maggie's, and we get an insight into her time both on and off screen, as well as her experiences after leaving LoveShack.
Maggie aside, we also follow other characters throughout the book, and though I wasn't entirely sold on one POV at the start, they all become important in their own ways by the end.
All of the characters felt really fleshed out, and you really get to both love and hate them (sometimes simultaneously) throughout. The whodunit element of the story was also executed well, and I was in the dark until the very end.
With short chapters and some big twists, this book is an ideal holiday read, though it would also suit commuters too.

Stunning brunette lined up as Love Island bombshell as she flies in from Australia
LOVE Island is lining up a stunning Welsh brunette as a bombshell, The Sun can exclusively reveal. Emily Moran, who lives in Sydney, Australia, has jetted to Mallorca and is set to turn the boys' heads. 3 A source said: "Emily's originally from Aberdare, the same town as Nicole Samuel from last year's show. "Her ex-boyfriend is tall dark and handsome so she'll have plenty of options when she does make it into the villa. "She's been unlucky in love since moving down under and is hoping to find Mr Right with a little help from Maya Jama and the British public." The glam, well-travelled brunette is fond of a beach day, often stripping down to stylish bikinis to soak up the sun. Last year she spent time in Ibiza, Mykonos, Mallorca, and the Amalfi Coast. Emily last posted on social media two weeks ago and told followers she was a "happy girl", while another post saw her say: "I love my little life". We exclusively revealed yesterday that one of the original villa girls has already been dumped from the villa. A source said: 'This girl will be sorely missed as was already proving to be a big character. She was absolutely gutted to leave. 'But the series has twists and turns at every stage and this isn't the usual dumping viewers might expect after a bombshell arrives. 'Executive producer Mike Spencer-Hayter has promised drama for the tenth anniversary and this format point will not disappoint.' It came after the first bombshell of the series, American Toni, was introduced last night and immediately stole Ben from Shakira. However, viewers think the taxi driver isn't interested after picking up on his body language and saying: "Ben doesn't even look like he wants to be there. This season is about to be a mess." 3

Completing her look with her glasses, Chloe scrolled on her phone as she attempted to get in contact with someone to fix her car. Meanwhile Jack also kept it simple in a grey Nike T-shirt, beige joggers and white trainers. The couple last called it quits on their relationship back in April following 'a stressful year' after the Love Island star overturned his jail sentence. However now The Sun revealed over the weekend that the pair were back on after they were spotted shopping together at Swanley Market in Kent. A source told the publication: 'Chloe and Jack have been on and off for months but have finally put their differences aside to give their relationship another chance. 'They really want to make it work so have been enjoying some lowkey dates as they gradually build the trust. Things appear to be back on with the couple after they were spotted coming out of the Sainsbury's together in Grays, Essex MailOnline have contacted Jack and Chloe's representatives for comment. Last week they sparked rumours of a reconciliation when they shared snaps on their respective Instagrams from the same East London market. Taking a visit to Columbia Road Flower Market, Jack shared a snap outside the Birdcage pub. Chloe then also posted a snap from the same spot as she posed with a huge bouquet of flowers. The pair previously moved into their first home together back in May 2024 and even created a joint account to share their home updates. However in April Chloe announced she was once again single and wanted to 'focus on myself', as they prepared to move into separate homes. During a Q&A session with her Instagram followers, Chloe was asked if she is still in a relationship. She responded: 'No I'm not in a relationship anymore... just want to focus on myself and the things that make me happy.' When asked if she was moving in with Jack, she explained: 'No I am moving to Brentwood on my own... I can't wait to show you all my little place it's so pretty' They currently live in Romford, but Chloe reportedly 'misses the Essex buzz,' while Jack is hoping to move to Kent. In another Instagram Stories, she added: 'I wanna give myself a cuddle after the last year I've had... only way is up from here'. Jack previously said he doubted his relationship with Chloe was over for good, and it appeared Chloe feels the same. She admitted: 'I'm sure he would like to go back to that time in our relationship, as would I to some extent. 'Obviously I'm focusing on moving out and things going on in my career and Jack is focusing on a lot of things going on in his. 'I wish him well and we'll always be involved in each other's lives to some extent, whether romantically or in a friendship way, but as of right now I'm focusing on myself.' 'I've seen a lot about us slamming each other, I can assure you that is definitely not what is going on. 'Me and Jack have been in each other's lives for a really long time, six nearly seven years now, and we tried living together and it didn't work for multiple reasons, not because of my OnlyFans at all.'

Here we get to know the pro rugby-playing Irishman, who's ready for romance in the famous villa. This came after it emerged he'd been quizzed by cops over a machete attack at a wake in February 2025. Kyle broke his silence on his exit, saying: 'I fully co-operated with this police investigation and made it very clear that I had no involvement in this incident. 'I am not a violent person and any suggestion otherwise is a mischaracterisation.' Another Islander, Dejon Williams, was also questioned by police after being accused of stealing a woman's phone on a night out. He told The Sun: 'I was never arrested. I voluntarily spoke to the police to clarify the truth about what happened in this incident, with no further action taken. "To stress, my intentions here were entirely honourable and it is very upsetting to read claims that suggest otherwise.' ITV was aware of the incident with Dejon when he secured his place on the show, a spokesman confirmed. On June 4, 2025, Love Island revealed professional rugby player Conor Phillips would be taking his place — here's everything you need to know about him. Who is Conor Phillips? Conor is a contestant in the starting lineup for Love Island 2025. Brutal twist rocks villa as bombshell enters during first episode The 25-year-old rugby pro plays for Munster's academy and has represented Ireland at U20 level and in the international 7s. Conor's looking for "someone who is really sure of themselves, ambitious, a bit of a go-getter and good craic. I like dark eyes and I don't mind a dominant woman". When it comes to turn offs, he added: "Being too needy, or needing to do everything together. "I like someone to be independent and do their own thing and then we come together and do our thing." Speaking to press, Conor revealed the most unusual place he's had sex. He shared: "Probably behind a nightclub, I think, is the craziest, to be honest. Hopefully this is the right place, and it should be, you know, because you're in a lovely villa surrounded by beautiful people, so I'm hoping that this is the one Conor Phillips "I know it's nothing too crazy. I was young as well." He also opened up about how his mother feels about him joining Love Island. He said: "It's a weird one for parents. My mam will be quite reserved and low key. So, it's a bit out of her comfort zone. "But again, she knew that I'm an adult, so I'm going to make my own decision, and she's going to support me. Admitting he'd broken show rules before entering the famous villa, Conor revealed he'd sought advice from past winner Greg O'Shea. Islanders are forbidden from revealing their involvement in the series before it starts. 4 Conor has never really been in a long relationship and believes Love Island is the right place to find a partner Credit: Instagram Fellow Irish rugby player Greg, 30, won series five alongside Amber Gill. Conor shared: "I know Greg through rugby circles so I spoke to him about going on Love Island. "He just said 'be yourself, it's a really really really cool experience that not many people get. "So enjoy it and yeah take it day by day and if you can be yourself you can't really go too far wrong'. "So that's my plan. He was like 'my advice might be a bit different from others because I won'." He added: "I'm 25 and I've only had one relationship and it wasn't very long. "So I feel like I'm maybe doing something wrong or maybe I'm not in the right places. "So, hopefully this is the right place, and it should be, you know, because you're in a lovely villa surrounded by beautiful people, so I'm hoping that this is the one."
