Love Island fans need to read new thriller with a big twist perfect for summer

Daily Mirror22-05-2025

I'm not a big New Year's resolution person, but one of my goals for this year was to stop mindlessly scrolling on my phone while the TV blares in the background and instead read a book (or at least watch TV a bit more intentionally).
So while I haven't been watching very much TV, I have been reading a lot of literature inspired by TV shows and trends, which is definitely the next best thing.
Enter: People Pleaser.
Catriona Stewart's debut novel follows Maggie Lathrop, a woman whose life is transformed overnight when she wins LoveShack, America's most popular reality dating show. But when she is found murdered in a Los Angeles warehouse and the police fail to find any answers, her sister Emma steps in to investigate.
Thrillers aren't usually my thing and I probably only read one every other month. But when I saw People Pleaser described as White Lotus meets Love Island, I just couldn't resist.
And I'm so glad I didn't, because this story had me hooked from the first few pages. I'm generally a pretty quick reader, but this is such a page-turner and I flew through this in just two sittings.
It's so addictive, especially for anyone, like me, who has ever wondered what goes on on shows like Love Island when the cameras stop rolling. The story is told from several different perspectives, including Maggie's, and we get an insight into her time both on and off screen, as well as her experiences after leaving LoveShack.
Maggie aside, we also follow other characters throughout the book, and though I wasn't entirely sold on one POV at the start, they all become important in their own ways by the end.
All of the characters felt really fleshed out, and you really get to both love and hate them (sometimes simultaneously) throughout. The whodunit element of the story was also executed well, and I was in the dark until the very end.
With short chapters and some big twists, this book is an ideal holiday read, though it would also suit commuters too.

All about Megan Moore and when she is joining Love Island 2025

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) MEGAN Moore was supposed to be a Love Island bombshell in 2024, but decided to pull out and never graced our screens. But that is all set to change for this year's summer series, so here's everything you need to know about Meg. Megan Moore, a payroll specialist from Southampton who also goes by Meg, is set to star in Love Island 2025. The 25-year-old was going to be in the cast of last year's instalment of the steamy show as a bombshell, but passed the opportunity up after watching the series and realising that "no one was my type". She was approached again to be in the original line-up for 2025, and thought "what have I got to lose?" Meg explained: "I was in a WhatsApp group that was to keep me updated on the show. "I'd tell them who I fancied and would my top three be. "It just got to the point where I felt like I wouldn't really have fitted in or that I would really get on with that person. "They always kept me in the loop and then it just all happened really quickly and I didn't really think about it, I was still living my normal life. "So then obviously it came around again this year, and they said, 'Meg, would you go for it again?' "I said, 'Well, nothing's changed, I've been on no dates, I'm still single, so what have I got to lose?'" Meg is looking for a man who is tall and tanned, with nice eyes and a nice smile. Love rats & machete arrests: Love Island's most DRAMATIC launch ever?! She said her biggest ick is men in flip-flops and bad hygiene. Meg added: "He needs to have a good fashion sense and a really good, funny personality that I can get on with." She's also prepared to bring the drama if someone tries to move in on her man. "I'll probably be in the thick of the drama. I don't cause it, it just comes to me, so... "But at the same time, if you're going to try and steal my man, you're going to get the drama." When is Megan Moore joining Love Island 2025? Meg is a contestant on the show's 12th season, which premiers at 9pm on Monday, June 9, 2025. She is one of the initial batch of Islanders entering the famous villa at the very start of the series, rather than joining cast as a bombshell — as she nearly did in 2024.
