Odisha Vigilance seizes Rs 1.44 crore cash, gold from Forest Ranger
According to Vigilance sources, Rs.1.4 crore in cash was recovered from a concealed chamber inside Flat No. 510 of the Golden Height Residential Apartment in Jeypore town today.
With this, the total cash seizure in the case has reached Rs.1.44 crore. Counting machines have been deployed, and counting is still underway.
A Vigilance team comprising 6 DSPs, 5 Inspectors, 9 ASIs, and supporting staff conducted raids at six different locations linked to Nepak, acting on search warrants issued by the Special Judge, Vigilance, Jeypore.
The operation was launched following allegations of possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income.
So far, the recovered assets include, building constructed on ancestral land in Jeypore town, Koraput district, two flats at the Golden Height Residential Apartment, PR Petta, Jeypore town.
Nepak began his career in March 1989 as a Village Forest Worker under the Social Forestry Division in Koraput.
Following the merger of Social Forestry with the Territorial Forest Division, he was posted to the Jeypore Forest (Territorial) Division.
He is currently serving as Deputy Ranger-cum-In-Charge Ranger of the Jeypore Forest Range, drawing a gross monthly salary of Rs.76,880 and a net salary of Rs.69,680.
Further search operation is ongoing by the vigilance team.

JJB issues notice to cops after teen alleges custodial torture
Noida: The Juvenile Justice Board (JJB) has issued a notice to Noida police following allegations by a 14-year-old boy that he was illegally detained and assaulted in custody with a belt. The boy's family also accused the cops of harassment. The incident traces back to an FIR filed on July 27 under Section 305 of the BNS (theft in a dwelling house) at Sector 126 police station. Anwar Khan, a resident of Raipur Khadar village, reported the theft of two mobile phones, two gold rings, a silver anklet, and Rs 17,000 in cash while he and his flatmate were asleep. His flatmate's three mobile phones were also stolen, Khan claimed. According to police records, the 15-year-old juvenile and co-accused Vishal Ahirwar (20) were apprehended on Aug 14 in connection with the theft. The cops claimed to have recovered six mobile phones, Rs 2,500 in cash, an anklet, and two rings from the duo. Both accused, they said, confessed to committing the theft on July 26. He alleged that around 5.30pm on Aug 8 — and not Aug 14 as claimed by police — he was forcibly taken by the cops and held overnight at the station. He recounted a harrowing ordeal, where cops allegedly assaulted his mother, confiscated her phone, and extorted Rs 6,500 before taking him to custody. The boy wasn't spared either. "While I was in the (Sector 126) police station, the inspector hit me with a belt on both my palms and wrists and also on the soles of my feet. I felt a lot of pain and was screaming. I told him not to hit me, but he wouldn't stop," he added. The ordeal didn't stop at that. The teenager alleged that between Aug 11 and 13, the police transported him to Mahoba and Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh, lodging him in hotels without informing his family. He was kept at the police station for two days before being admitted to an observation home on Aug 15. On Aug 18, he was presented in court without his family being even informed about it. The JJB — acknowledging the "serious allegations" — has ordered the Sector 126 SHO to preserve CCTV footage from Aug 8 to 15 and submit it within 48 hours. The board also criticised the investigating officer, Yogesh Chaudhary, for attempting to mislead the panel and behaving improperly. "Assistant Commissioner of Police, Gautam Budh Nagar, is directed to initiate investigation against the Investigating Officer Yogesh Choudhary in the above case for offences under JJ Act and BNS," read the order by principal magistrate (JJB) Ankita Singh. The order also specified that the inquiry against Choudhary should examine violations of the JJ Act, including improper apprehension, denial of bail, and failure to inform the child's parents or probation officer. It will also look into "possible offences" of cruelty to a child under JJ Act and for wrongful confinement and disobeying the law with intent to cause injury under the BNS. District child protection unit has been asked to appoint a counsellor for the boy and submit a report within a week. The child welfare police officer must also explain the failure to follow the due process in custody under the JJ Act. As of now, the boy will stay in the observation home till Aug 20. "The Police Commissioner of Gautam Budh Nagar is to ensure a thorough investigation and appropriate action against the officer, while the District Legal Services Authority will provide legal aid to the child," the board said. Rs 16cr cyberfraud racket linked to Chinese syndicate busted, two brothers held
Ahmedabad: The city Cyber Crime Branch on Tuesday arrested two brothers accused of playing a key role in a Rs 16 crore fraud racket that funnelled money into cryptocurrency for a Chinese cyber syndicate. The arrested accused, Savan Thakrar and Dhaval Thakrar, are alleged to be part of a local network that acted as agents for the Chinese gang. Other members of the syndicate — Govind Rawal (Nath), Brijrajsinh Gadhvi, Keval Gadhvi, Hasmukh Nasit, and a Dubai-based operative identified as Milan — remain on the run. Police said the Thakrar brothers and their associates arranged mule bank accounts to siphon off money from victims, converted the funds into cryptocurrency, and then routed it to China through Milan, who managed overseas operations. DUSU office vandalised by unidentified men, student wings trade barbs
Ahead of the Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) election, which is scheduled for next month, its office was vandalised on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday. According to Delhi University officials, a group of 20 to 25 unidentified men forced their way into the DUSU building, after allegedly kicking open the main gate and thrashing the guards who tried to stop them. 'They spoke to the guards in an arrogant manner,' said Prof Rajni Abbi, Director of the South Campus. 'The police are investigating the matter, and based on the outcome of the probe, we will take action against those responsible,' she added. The incident has once again sharpened the rivalry between the two dominant student groups — the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) and the National Students' Union of India (NSUI) — with one accusing the other of orchestrating the violence. Holding the ABVP responsible, outgoing DUSU president Ronak Khatri told The Indian Express, 'It is a clear attempt by the ABVP to intimidate…' Meanwhile,ABVP member Rishabh Chaudhary said 'I had a couple of days ago held Khatri responsible and shared that he had not done any work in the past year… he himself must have orchestrated this vandalism.'
