Father remanded for 7 days over son's death in Negeri Sembilan
Iskandar Puteri police chief ACP M. Kumarasan said the man, who is the victim's biological father, had initially alleged that his son disappeared on July 23 around 4 pm after he left the child alone in a car while going out to buy food.
'However, subsequent investigations led to the discovery of the victim's body in Rompin, Negeri Sembilan,' he said in a statement issued late yesterday.
He said the suspect was arrested at about 12.20 pm on the same day he filed the false report, and preliminary checks confirmed that the man tested negative for drugs and had no criminal record.
The suspect is being remanded for seven days starting July 25 to assist in the investigation under Section 182 of the Penal Code for making a false report.
Meanwhile, Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Ahmad Dzaffir Mohd Yussof was reported as saying that the police were informed about the discovery of the body of a child, who was suspected of being murdered and buried at the location at about 4.30 pm yesterday.

He was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, read together with Section 16(1) of the same Act. Section 14(a) provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years' imprisonment and whipping, while Section 16(1) carries a jail term of up to five years and not less than two strokes of the cane, upon conviction. In mitigation, defence counsel Tharamjit Singh urged the court to impose a lenient sentence, citing that the accused had to care for his elderly mother. However, deputy public prosecutor Nur Shakila Mohd Shariff pressed for a heavier sentence, arguing that the offence was serious and had caused lasting psychological trauma to the victim. "The victim is a child in need of the highest level of legal protection. The accused exploited her vulnerability and trust. As her wushu coach, he was in a position of trust and should have acted as her protector and mentor. "Instead, he abused that position for his gratification. We urge the court to impose a stiffer sentence to serve as a deterrent and clear warning to others," she submitted. Three charged with smuggling Sri Lankan national via KLIA
KLANG: Three individuals, including a woman, appeared in the Sessions Court today over charges of smuggling a Sri Lankan national. The accused are G. Santhiya Darshini, 27, and Janarthanan Appupillai, 46, both Malaysians, along with Vtheewaran Palani, 48, a Sri Lankan citizen. They acknowledged the charge after it was read to them in Tamil before Judge Mohd Sabri Ismail. No plea was recorded as the case falls under the High Court's jurisdiction. The trio allegedly arranged the smuggling of a Sri Lankan migrant via KLIA Terminal 1 on July 10. They were charged under Section 26C of the ATIPSOM Act 2007, read with Section 34 of the Penal Code. If convicted, they face up to 15 years' imprisonment, a fine, or both. In a separate case, Sri Lankan national Antany Sujan Antany Ranjan, 21, was charged with possessing a fake passport. Police finalise case of Iranians robbing hypnotised tourists in George Town
GEORGE TOWN: Police are completing investigation papers on five Iranian nationals arrested for allegedly stealing money from foreign tourists in George Town last Saturday. Acting Penang police chief Datuk Mohd Alwi Zainal Abidin confirmed the suspects, aged 19 to 35, have finished their police remand and are now under Immigration Department custody until August 15. 'Police are still probing possible links to similar cases in other states, but no findings have surfaced yet,' he said. Investigations reveal their involvement in three theft cases reported in George Town, with papers being finalised for submission to the Deputy Public Prosecutor's Office. Authorities are also verifying the authenticity of the suspects' passports and their travel records in Malaysia.
