There's no doubt the NSX, both with the Honda and Acura badge affixed, is a hot collector item. It wasn't always that way, but it seems enough people with deep pockets feel nostalgic about the mid-engine Japanese sports car (dare we call it a supercar?) to drive up prices.It seems like records are being set and broken fairly often, and it recently happened again after a 2002 Acura NSX auctioned for $370,000 on Bring A Trailer. While that's not the highest top bid for an NSX at auction, it's apparently a new high for any NA2 NSX, which before sat at $315,000.
What's more, that high bid sets a record for any NA1 or NA2 auctioned on Bring A Trailer. Needless to say, people are excited about that and what it means for future values of Honda's exotic machine.
We know opinions of the NSX are varied these days. While the car was revolutionary back when Honda first revealed it back in 1989 as a concept it was boundary-pushing and a legitimate threat to Ferrari and other European exotics.
However, it didn't take long for the more exclusive brands to leave it in their dust as competition heated up. By the late 90s, the NSX was considered slow and outdated by many, but Honda loyalists still revered the model.
While for a time one could pick up a used NSX for a shockingly low amount, those days seem to be long gone. Values for the vehicle have climbed as younger collectors and enthusiasts with big budgets have been willing to shell out big money for clean examples.
The one that just auctioned on Bring A Trailer looks exceptionally clean outside and in. Not only does it have the 6-speed manual transmission, it boasts just 9,000 original miles. That means it's still like a brand new vehicle, which surely helped drive the high bid to its lofty amount.

Wayne Gretzky's 2006 Ford GT Is up for Auction on Bring a Trailer
A first-gen Ford GT is already desirable, and this one has celebrity provenance. With a supercharged V-8 and a manual transmission, this era of Ford GT is more old-school than the high-tech 2020s edition. This car has ultralow mileage and is a Heritage Edition with great livery. How much value celebrity ownership adds to a car can vary wildly (see: Jon Voight's Chrysler LeBaron from that Seinfeld episode). But park a supercharged-V8 Ford GT in an ice rink and you're going to get a lot more attention than the post-second-period Zamboni. The photo location highlights the fact that this 2006 Ford GT Heritage Edition on Bring a Trailer (which, like Car and Driver, is part of Hearst Autos) was once owned by hockey's Great One: Wayne Gretzky. Gulf-racing orange over pale blue, an homage to the GT40s that raced and won at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, really works on this era of Ford GT. And those "99" racing decals are an obvious reference to Gretzky's longtime jersey number. Although the later, second-generation Ford GT is a technical tour de force, this first generation provides a closer experience of what driving around in a GT40 actually feels like. As such, values have been skyrocketing of late, so you might as well go for one with a great history and cool colors. It also helps that this example has just 1200 miles on the odometer. Powered by a mid-mounted 5.4-liter V-8 fitted with a supercharger, the GT packs a still-respectable 550 horsepower and 500 pound-feet of torque. Those twin exhausts emit a roar like a hometown crowd celebrating an overtime-winning goal when you goose the throttle. Add in a six-speed manual and a limited-slip diff out back, and this is some old-time rock 'em sock 'em performance. Speaking of performance, while Gretzky made his name as a playmaker and goal scorer, the GT finishes its checks like his old teammate and enforcer Dave Semenko. As tested by Car and Driver back when it was new, the 2006 Ford GT clocked off a 3.3-second 0-to-60-mph run, leaving a Ferrari 430 Challenge Stradale and a Porsche 911 GT3 in its dust. It pulled nearly 1.0 g on the skidpad, had fade-free brakes, and generally knocked the European competition off their skates. It's a bruiser. Not to the driver though. The GT comes with air conditioning and a CD player. The ride is pretty firm, but beyond that, there is no excuse for only having 1200 miles on the odometer. As number 99 famously said, "You miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take." So get in there and place your bid. Don't leave this Ford GT on ice. The auction ends on June 6. Toyota to take key supplier private in $33 billion deal
TOKYO (Reuters) - Toyota Motor will take forklift-maker Toyota Industries private in a $33 billion deal, the companies said on Tuesday, a landmark unwinding of cross-shareholding that is likely to strengthen the influence of the group's founding Toyoda family. Going private will allow Toyota Industries to take a longer-term business perspective, the companies said. Japanese conglomerates are under increasing pressure to unwind stakes in each other as part of a government push for better governance. "It streamlines the cross-shareholdings a bit within the group," said Vincent Sun, a senior analyst at Morningstar. "We think it makes sense for Toyota Motor to have a stake in Toyota Industries to leverage on any potential autonomous (logistics) technology in the future." The total acquisition cost for the Toyota Group will be around 4.7 trillion yen ($33 billion), a spokesperson said. That includes a $26 billion tender offer for shares of Toyota Industries at 16,300 yen apiece, well below the closing price of 18,400 yen on Tuesday before the deal was announced. A new holding company will be set up for the deal, the companies said. Group real estate company Toyota Fudosan will invest 180 billion yen, while Akio Toyoda, Toyota Motor's chairman, will invest 1 billion yen. Toyota Motor will invest 700 billion yen in non-voting preferred shares. Toyota Motor and group companies Aisin, Denso and Toyota Tsusho will all sell their shares in Toyota Industries and acquire their own shares now held by it. "Toyota Group is focusing on the movement of people, goods, information, and energy as it progresses towards transforming into a mobility company," the companies said, adding that Toyota Industries would focus on the transport of goods. While the deal was widely expected, the price may come as something of a shock. Media reports had indicated the tender offer would be around $42 billion, a 62% premium to the actual offer. Toyota had said in April it was considering participating in a potential buyout of Toyota Industries. Toyota owned about 24% of Toyota Industries as of September last year, while Toyota Industries held around 9% of the world's biggest automaker and more than 5% of Denso. Toyota Industries, formerly Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, was founded in 1926 by Sakichi Toyoda to make automatic looms.
