According to a press release, the record is aimed 'against the injustices happening in the United States.' Casey noted that while 'some of the songs were written late last summer,' well before the election, several were written after he 'knew we were headed this way,' with 'three or four songs directly pointed at current situations.'

The Dropkick Murphys drop their new album, "For The People," on Friday.

'I never even imagined we'd already be where we are at in terms of the cruelty and mismanagement, in my opinion, of our country,' said Casey, who described the new album as tackling issues that are both timely and timeless. 'It's the same old story of divide and conquer and get regular people divided and fighting amongst themselves over the same old tropes of immigrants, sexual identity.'
'We're fighting amongst each other while the rich and the powerful are stealing everything out the back door,' he added. 'And I think that's obviously gone on forever in the world. It's just so blatant right now, and America is so divided.'
Fearing what he calls 'a massive swing back towards authoritarianism,' Casey believes it's 'the most serious moment that has arisen since a band that speaks out politically has been around.'
The first single from the new album, 'Who'll Stand With Us?,' released last month with a powerful music video, featuring visuals of missing persons posters and people getting kidnapped from their workplaces. It's taken on a new meaning with the rise of ICE raids across the country, although Casey revealed that the original intention of the music video was to serve as a metaphor for issues like veterans and the elderly losing benefits.
'The snatching of people was really supposed to be kind of symbolic in the sense they're disappearing … they might be gone, meaning that they're faceless to the government,' said Casey. 'And then here you are, fast forward a few months, and it's like, no, people are literally getting snatched off the street.'
'The images are right there in front of our face, yet the world has gotten to a place where even what you see with your own two eyes is not enough to kind of answer any doubts or questions,' he added. 'I thought the plan was to get rid of the worst criminals that were here hurting people. And now we're taking pregnant women and little old ladies off the street.'

In addition to the heavier subject matter at hand, 'For The People' has songs 'written in better times' too that the band is excited for fans to hear, Casey noted. The new album also features a cameo from longtime Dropkick Murphys singer Al Barr, who has been away from the band for the past few years while taking time off for family matters. He lends his vocals to the track 'The Vultures Circle High.'
'It was awesome to be sharing a microphone again and spend some time together,' said Casey. 'That song definitely calls for the trade off on the vocals like a lot of our songs, where the verses are just so rapid fire they connect well into each other.'
The record includes a tribute to late Pogues frontman
'The Pogues really drew on that combination of the punk crowd, and just a regular townie crowd that grew up with Irish roots,' said Casey.
The Bay State musician later got to work with MacGowan, who appeared on the track 'Good Rats' from Dropkick Murphys's 2001 album 'Sing Loud, Sing Proud!' Casey admitted that getting the chance to tour with the Pogues overseas also had 'a massive impact' on his life.
'As someone who never really left the 128 area before the band, all of a sudden, I've seen the world, and the Pogues were definitely a huge motivation for starting the band,' said Casey.

But before the band hits the road, Dropkick Murphys will play a free album release show on July 12 beginning at 4 p.m. on Hancock Street in Quincy Center at the Common. The group first formed in Quincy nearly three decades ago, and the show also coincides with the city's Quincy400 festivities.
'Our very first practice space was only a half a mile, three-quarters of a mile, from where the stage will sit,' said Casey, explaining that the band used to jam 'in the basement of a little tiny barbershop.'
'We're coming up on 30 years of the band, and 30 years later to be doing a free show outside and shutting down the street that we started the band on, it's [a] pretty wild vibe,' he added.

South Park doubles down on its dog-blasting troll war with the White House

Like it or not, South Park has taken on a weirdly heavy role in our culture at the moment, one in which the actual residents of the actual White House both attack, and try to co-opt, the show's messaging, massively elevating the series' profile, and its function as a cultural barometer. Said meter, meanwhile, continues to point straight at a full-on war with not just Donald Trump, but his whole administration, as the show continues to basically dare Trump and his associates to make it important. 'Got A Nut,' the second episode of the show's 27th season, doubled down on that scorched earth approach tonight, building on the swings taken by the show's micropenis-festooned season premiere. That included aggressive attacks on ICE, Charlie Kirk, and most especially Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, depicted as merciless attention seeker whose obsessive desire to shoot dogs didn't stop with the one she actually copped to killing in her 2024 autobiography. South Park's decision to stop fucking around with surrogate characters like Mr. Garrison and just say 'Kristi Noem loves shooting dogs, up to and including Krypto from Superman' reveals a show all-but-begging for another confrontation with Trump and his associates—see also JD Vance being depicted as the sexually servile Tattoo to Trump's Mr. Roarke, because there's nothing 16-year-old South Park fans love like a good Fantasy Island reference. As ever, creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone seem content to swing haphazardly between puerile jokes about 'masterdebaters' and Noem's face falling apart with more pointed material about how so many of the people propping up the current administration are just looking to 'make their nut,' whether it's by stoking online anger, or helping ICE literally invade heaven to deport brown people. It's classic troll tactics: Throw everything you can at the target, because something is going to get the blood pressure to rise. South Park has always occupied what feels like an outsized role in American culture: It makes more money, and garners more attention, than any number of shows that might approach cultural material in less bombastic or more thoughtful fashion, simply by dint of being willing to take the biggest, loudest swings. It's an approach that pays off best when reality feels at its dumbest, and now that the show's fully committed to focusing its ire on Trump, the question simply becomes whether the White House will continue to play along—or if the Very Normal Personalities currently occupying it will be able to resist letting themselves be trolled. Dropkick Murphys called Donald Trump a 'First Class Loser.' Will they do that in Indiana?

The Dropkick Murphys have never been shy in their criticism of President Donald Trump, which is something Hoosiers might experience firsthand when the band takes the stage Tuesday in Indianapolis. The Massachusetts-based punk rock group played an unflattering video of Trump during a rendition of 'First Class Loser' at their July 27 Warped Tour performance in Long Beach, California. The video included footage Trump palling around with late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. It's unknown whether the band will do the same again Tuesday in Indianapolis. Here's what happened. 'This next song is dedicated to a guy who wears orange makeup, (defecates) his pants in his diapers, rapes women, touches kids,' said Dropkick Murphys vocalist Ken Casey. 'It's called 'First Class Loser.'' Trump was found liable for sexual abuse in a 2023 civil court case against E. Jean Carroll, a lauded writer and a former graduate of Indiana University. Check out a video of the song below, but mind the language. Story continues after photo gallery. Casey has been vocal in his criticism about Trump and his supporters in recent months. The frontman delivered a pointed critique of MAGA hats during the band's show March 15 at MGM Music Hall in Boston. 'Silence is complicit at this point,' Casey said during an interview with Boston radio station WBUR. 'So to be making fluff music about stuff that isn't of importance at the moment, I really just think is shirking away from the fight.' The Dropkick Murphys, natives of Quincy, Massachusetts, recently released the album 'For the People,' which includes the anti-authoritarian anthem 'Who'll Stand with Us?' (Warning: The following video contains strong language.) The group plays at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 5, with Bad Religion at Everwise Amphitheater at White River State Park. Tickets to watch the Dropkick Murphys perform in Indianapolis run $40 to upwards of $157 and are available at Find Dropkick Murphys tickets on TicketMaster The show is part of the band's Summer of Discontent tour. After Indianapolis, they perform Aug. 6 in Buffalo, New York. Chris Jordan, a Jersey Shore native, covers entertainment and features for the USA Today Network New Jersey. Contact him at cjordan@
