As All Saints Melanie Blatt becomes the latest celebrity to launch her own pub, I put the popstar's menu to the test - and one item left me shocked

Daily Mail24-04-2025

She was in one of the most iconic bands of the nineties, selling 12 million records and establishing a fashion look that defined the age.
So fans who associate her with All Saints may be surprised at Melanie Blatt 's latest career move: she has swapped her microphone for a spatula as she cooks burgers in a London pub.
The 50-year-old singer has followed through with the culinary promise she showed while appearing in Celebrity MasterChef to now cook professionally.
She has taken on a weekly residency in the kitchen of fashionable gastropub The Londesborough, in Stoke Newington, north London, where she is turning out a trio of burgers to a booked out crowd.
And MailOnline went along last night to taste test Melanie's menu.
Despite being the star attraction, Melanie herself remains hidden out of sight in the kitchen visible only occasionally throught the small serving hatch. There is no branding advertising her presence, with even the menus - emblazoned with the name of her company Full Fillings - not containing her name.
When we arrived Melanie was already whirring around the kitchen prepping for service - and she told us she 'loves it!'
The new venture, into its third week of a soft launch - meaning it has had no advance publicity - but word-of-mouth has meant it's getting very busy on the Tuesday night slot which Melanie has taken.
And Melanie's new boss - pub manager Marc Baxter - says he hopes he can persuade her to carry on working at the pub for at least the summer. He is even planning to create a dedicated outside area so she can take her passion project to the next level.
Londesborough regulars say it is a refreshing attitude for a celebrity commercial venture: people are buying her food because it tastes good, not because they are a fan of her music, they insist.
And that food is a reinvention of the traditional burger: instead of a fast fried patty, she slow cooks meat or pasta to create something that's more intensely flavoured but still serves as what is recognisably a burger in a brioche bun served with fries alongside a dipping sauce.
So how was it? We tried all three options on her burger menu.
'The Chicken One', containing a Caribbean-inspired chicken curry, was well spiced yet refreshing, with a deep boost of home-coming flavour. It can be picked up for £19.
'The Cheese One' – Melanie's indulgent £18 veggie option - was rich with oozing creaminess, undercut neatly by a tangy tomato dipping sauce.
And 'The Beef One', the most popular amongst the customers we polled despite being the most expensive at £20, was intensely beefy and juicy.
Each had its own appeal but the chicken came top of our rankings, followed by the cheese patty and the beef birria, although each made a delicious departure from the stale world of the barbecue staple.
Melanie has stepped back from the burgers we know and loved and transformed them into an extravagant revaluation of flavour that is unique to her kitchen.
As we nosed through her door at the end of our meal the famous chef remained too busy to talk but flung her hands in the air and said 'Yay!' as she was told we loved the food – showing her satisfaction as she succeeds in her new project.
The Never Ever singer paired up with The Londesborough after being recommended by a friend working at the bar.
Pub manager Marc, 53, is delighted to have her on board - having been friends with other members of All Saints in his youth. This is despite not being a fan of the girl group's tunes - he spent the 90s as a commercial fashion model listening to electronic music.
He told MailOnline: 'It's an opportunity for her to explore her vision - she's got a real passion for cooking and a track record as a chef. People might think it's a novel idea and it's going down very well.
'If you've seen the reels that she posts she's just fully immersed. I'm like - you're that happy about having to cater logistically? I've been in the business for a long time and I know what that means!
'The commitment she's got is based on the passion she's got, otherwise spending 12 hours in the kitchen is a massive commitment.'
Melanie made her professional debut as a chef at The Londesborough earlier this month, when her kitchen was 'soft launched'.
Its only public announcement came on Melanie's Instagram page as the pub held back on publicising its new venture to start off with.
But it has already been so popular that Marc is looking to the future.
He continued: 'This is to establish Mel's concept as an ongoing concern. She's going to be with us for at least the summer we hope!
'We've got designs on giving her a designated space in the garden and pushing a really busy summer.
'There's definitely an element of fandom but Mel's taken that in her stride and they're there for the food.
'Last week we were packed! We had 100 people. It's done well.
'My 16-year-old son has had two burgers already - he's a fully-fledged fan!
'Mel's great - it's a Stokey, villagey vibe and everyone loves her. She fits right in.'
DJ Silvio Pacini and Warren Bradshaw are both friends of Mel, and had come along to support her new venture.
Both had enjoyed the beef birria burger and said Melanie had been excited to finally make her dream a reality.
Silvio said: 'I've known her for 20 years. The burger was really nice.
'I'll try and come back, I don't live here. I saw her on Instagram and was like I'm definitely going to try it.
'She's been thinking about doing something like this for a very long time so I wanted to come and support. It's amazing.'
Warren, who lives in Lisbon, added: 'We've not seen her yet – she's too busy in the kitchen! She knows we're here.
'I was at a mutual friend's birthday party on Friday and I saw her and I think it was three or four days after the initial first night.
'She's excited, tentative – all the things you would be if you if you're starting something new. But very, very excited and very much about, I'm going to put everything into this.'
Lana Henry and Henry Beattie – both fans of All Saints – visited the pub after hearing that she was cooking behind the scenes.
Lana said: 'I liked their music. I've heard it's a good burger and am quite excited.'
And Henry, who organised the trip, continued: 'It's just really quite random, isn't it! I didn't even know that she was a chef!
'I saw her on Celebrity Race Across The World but she doesn't really cook on there.
Locals Pam Dunkley and Steven Willoughby (both pictured) didn't know Melanie has a residency at the pub - but have said they will come back to try her dishes in the future
'I have no expectations but I'm curious to see what it is like.'
Pam Dunkley, 85, and Steven Willoughby, 68, had no idea that Melanie had a special menu before turning up at the Londesborough and had to order from the ordinary list.
And the locals were amazed to find out who was cooking behind the scenes – and said they would make sure to come back and try it another time.
Pam said: 'My daughter has her records. Well done her! She's obviously multi-talented.
'It's discrete – it's a good way to let the food speak for itself. That will keep us going through the meal!'

I'm an interiors expert – four hacks to get the Love Island ‘look' in your home

Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) LOVE Island is officially back on our screens, which means we'll all be spending the summer watching contestants compete in their quest to find true love. While the show is ready to turn heads with new twists and more drama, and plenty of coupling up, there's one thing that remains loyal — the iconic look of the Villa. But it had undergone a makeover for the tenth year anniversary to make sure it's bigger than ever with glam touch-ups. This year, there is a new, supersized hideaway, walk-in wardrobes, an exercise bike and a steamy hot tub beside the huge pool. A purple theme has also been added and extended through to the fire pit, while the rooms have been touched up with gold furnishings. Even though you might not be able to install a built-in hot tub or pool in your own garden, there are still ways you can 'crack on' and add a touch of Love Island luxury to your home. Interior experts have revealed that there are a few clever design choices that will serve up a vibe that's trendy and timeless. And they are surprisingly easy for anyone who loves the popular ITV show. Paint and interiors expert Lucy Steele from Valspar Paint shared her four tips for helping your space look like a real villa bombshell. Go bright or go home Lucy has said that an essential tip for nailing the Love Island look at home is by pairing bright whites with pops of bold colour. She explained: "The interior of the Villa uses lots of brilliant whites as an easy backdrop for the bursts of fun colours throughout the space. Love Island fans spot clue islander is pretending to fancy her partner after awkward recoupling "Regularly using bold pinks, blues and butter yellows in the colour scheme of the Villa makes for a fun and playful aesthetic. "If you already have neutral walls at home, you can achieve this by using the iconic colour trio to paint feature walls. "Or simply coat doorframes and mirror frames for an instant refresh." Firepit drama No Love Island-inspired garden would be complete without the legendary fire pit. So if you want to recreate the look of the Villa in your own space, then you definitely need to pick up one of these. Lucy said: "This is an absolute must for the home, and it's actually fairly cheap to recreate. "In more basic styles, you can get a fire pit for as little as £20 in standard retailers like B&Q. "For a full-on Love Island garden vibe, add string fairy lights, sun loungers, and a splattering of colour-blocked cushions in the same blue, pink and yellow colour scheme. "You may also want to coordinate the colour of your outdoor furniture with natural wood and whites. "An easy way to achieve this cohesive look without splashing the cash is by painting your existing garden furniture with exterior paint, helping you stay loyal to the look." 6 The experts say every Love Island fan should have a fire pit in their home Credit: ITV Pop art inspo This is a fairly new one, but pop art goes perfectly with the theme of the Love Island Villa. Lucy advises: "Pop art was introduced to the design of the Villa fairly recently, and it works perfectly with the colour scheme throughout. "Pop art prints are relatively low cost, or you could DIY your own to give your space a cheeky, flirtatious edge. "Pop Art is a great way to add the Love Island look to your casa at a low cost. "And it can also be easily changed in the future to new and exciting art pieces." The five colours that are becoming outdated in 2025 IT'S important to make sure that when you update your space, you create a look that won't quickly become outdated. With that in mind, interior designers have revealed the five colours that are beginning to fade now that we are halfway into 2025. Interior pro Paulina Wojas from Stunning Chairs has said that 2025 is all about creating warm, inviting places. Emerald Green - "While this colour is still loved for its luxe vibe, its declining popularity could be due to it being oversaturated". Camel - "This could be due to Camel's brown-yellow undertone that may be too warm for a clean aesthetic, and 2025 interior trends favouring more muted, earthy tones such as taupe and olive.' Burgundy - "A prominent trend this year is open, airy spaces with organic elements, which could explain burgundy's declining demand". Scarlet Red - "While its vibrant hue is desirable for maximalist interiors, scarlet red's intensity can become overpowering, resulting in colour fatigue. Teal - "While this aquatic shade is still desirable and perfect for coastal, Greek-inspired interiors, the low number of teal sales could be due to changing preferences and trends shifting towards warmer colour palettes.' I've got a text… it says you need neon! According to the experts, anyone looking to bring the vibe of the Villa into their home needs to bring in touches of neon. Lucy explains: "Neon lights are an absolute must-have to achieve the Love Island look at home. "Think playful phrases, a neon heart above your bed, or a cheeky cocktail sign for the garden. "Neon is glam, Insta-ready, and surprisingly affordable. "Plus, it'll give your space that unmistakable glow. "It's perfect for setting the mood for your next pre-coupling party!"

Tourist suffers underwater nightmare as her air supply helmet dislodges

An underwater adventure almost turned into a nightmare for a tourist exploring a sunken playground when the helmet providing her air supply was dislodged. A group of travelers at Xcaret Park in Mexico were participating in the Sea Trek experience when one guest lost her bearing and dismantled her crucial breathing apparatus. Footage of the incident has garnered millions of views across the internet with safety warnings and theories about what happened - but a diver who claims to have been on the same trip has shared a new perspective on the incident. Viral footage shows the visitors enjoying the water excursion, with one woman gesturing toward the camera before chaos quickly unfolds behind her. Another woman seen in the background of the video clings to the guiderail when a stingray brushes below her feet below. She's forced into a flip underneath the bar, sending her feet flying into the air as she her helmet comes loose. When she turned her body, her helmet, which contained oxygen needed to immerse in the depths of the supervised area, slips off her head. As she began to panic, the woman writhed in the water until scuba divers quickly responded to bring her to the surface as the other adventurers watched in shock. While one video with nine million views claims the woman 'accidentally flipped upside down due to a strong air stream bubbling up from the sea floor', a woman who claimed to be in the video offered another explanation. The woman said: 'The woman behind me fell due to loss of balance after a stingray passed her feet and she tried lift her legs ups therefore caused her to fall [forwards]. 'She was okay and completely sound afterwards.' Viewers had quickly offered their own thoughts about the unique underwater trip, with many agreeing she may have been spooked by the stingray lurking below. 'Having done this before, it would probably be enough the current is very strong down there' one person said. 'You actually see the girl jumps up into the air a few times to touch a stingray. She jumps too high and her legs go up so she's flipped upside down.' 'She looked at the ray that's when she tilted her head and was turned upside down like a beach ball,' another agreed. 'Definitely need to hold on and follow instructions!' a forth wrote. The excursion is created by Sub Sea Systems and is offered at numerous vacation destinations. Helmet diving is advertised as an easy adventure that anyone ages eight to 96 can participate in without having experience swimming. The helmet is made of polycarbonate materials, which are unbreakable plastics and typically transparent. The helmet is also weighted so that participants can walk underwater. If the helmet falls off, they not only use their oxygen source but won't be weighted to the bottom of the ocean. 'The helmet works similar to an inverted glass– the air remains as long as you don't turn the glass over,' Sub Sea Systems explained on their website. 'This concept, combined with a constant flow of air supply, continuously maintains a fresh turnover of air within the helmet.' Sub Sea Systems said the helmet diving has over a 25-year track record of safe excursions with over three million people participating in the activity. Thrill-seekers can try helmet diving at several locations, including Xcaret Park in Cancun. Xcaret has a water park, amusement park, and eco-archaeological attractions. A training session is first held before participants try for themselves. They are then guided to the seabed and follow a path marked by railings at the bottom of the ocean.

Katie Price shares rare snap of boyfriend as she makes gushing tribute

Katie Price and JJ Slater have been an item for some time after JJ found fame when appearing on Married At First Sight, but have kept a low-profile on their romance recently Katie Price has shared a rare snap of her boyfriend JJ Slater as she made gushing tribute for a special occasion. JJ is celebrating his 33rd birthday as he has girlfriend Katie by his side. The mum-of-five took to her Instagram story to share a new photo of her by her boyfriend's side for the special day. Alongside the snap, she simply wrote: "Happy Birthday @johnjoeslater." ‌ Katie, 47, and JJ have been an item since they first met back in early 2024. The pair have faced scrutiny throughout their relationship due to their 14-year age gap. ‌ They have also been plagued by split rumours but have very much confirmed they are still together in Katie's birthday post. Speaking about JJ, Katie said: "He's the most kindest, genuine, easygoing, chilled person. But do I feel my most happiest and do I feel free? No. It's not a reflection on him, maybe that's what I need to change for myself." The sweet birthday tribute comes after JJ was rushed to hospital again overnight last month and updated fans on his health battle. He shared a worrying photo from hospital which showed a syringe in his arm. He explained the reasons behind why he went this morning after uploading the photo to Instagram. He wrote: "Hate to see it. The reality of living with type 1 diabetes. Late nights in A&E." JJ was taken to hospitals just a few days before Christmas in 2023 after losing 1.5 stone in three weeks and his blood sugar levels were found to be dangerously high. Doctors diagnosed him with type 1 diabetes and he now needs to inject himself with insulin four times per day and regulate his food intake. ‌ The star has been open about his health ordeal and how it has changed his life. He was diagnosed after a series of blood tests when his weight had dramatically decreased. Tests showed that he was at risk of diabetic ketoacidosis, which can be life-threatening. JJ told the MailOnline: "The first signs were that I always felt thirsty and needed to go the toilet in the middle of the night. I was waking up 4-5 times needing the toilet. "Then I started to lose weight quite quickly. I lost about a stone and a half in three weeks, but I was still eating the same and going to the gym every day. The average person's blood sugar is 4-7 and mine was 34, so mine was super high and there are a lot of complications that come with that. "Your blood can become acidic, which is called DKA (diabetic ketoacidosis)... they were afraid that my glucose was so high that the process had already started. Luckily, it hasn't so being diagnosed before that happened was crucial."
